Kaijin Fighter: So I Have to Make Monsters, So What?-Chapter 1138: Nature’s Fury
Seeing how their senior was acting, Simos and Graff immediately ran over to where he was standing to see what had got him all spooked.
It didn’t take them too long after that moment to get on the same page as him though.
"Oh my gods..."
"There’s so many of them..."
In the distant horizon, Victor, Simos and Graff could make out a growing dust cloud that was getting closer and closer by the second.
At the very foot of this cloud, they could see a horde of countless beasts, charging towards them and the entirety of Stone Claw City.

The Beast Tide had finally come.
"Oh fuck man...it’s like the end of the world..."
"What do we do? What do we do?!"
Simos and Graff were, understandably, incredibly panicked right now.
Victor on the other hand, well, he had a job to do.
"Cover your ears!"
"Huh? Oh!"
"Right!"
Taking a deep breath, and empowering his lungs and throat with aether, Victor gave out a warning he had honestly hoped he never had to give, at the top of his lungs.
Because of his actions, the whole city heard him.
"THE BEAST TIDE IS HERE!"
And because of his actions, they now had a chance of surviving.
...
[Oh dear, it appears the hordes of wilds are finally upon us.]
[Indeed...do you think we’ll need to help?]
[Possibly. Then again, we had spent quite some time preparing all of those defensive measures.]
[Then shall we hope it’ll be fun?]
[Yes.]
...
"Sound the alarm!"
"The Beast Tide is here!"
"Battle stations!"
"Get all the non-combatants to the caverns. Now!"
For weeks, Stone Claw City had been inundated by refugees who had lost everything to the Beast Tide, or knew what was going to happen to them if they didn’t leave their villages.
For weeks, the people living in Stone Claw have been preparing for the inevitable, establishing newer, stronger walls, training soldiers and preparing a multitude of defensive arrays, weapons and traps.
And for weeks, everyone in Stone Claw was waiting in disgusting anticipation for the arrival of the Beast Tide, just so they could finally remove this sword hanging over their heads.
And now the time had finally come.
AWOOO!
SCREEE!
MOOOOO!
HISS!
As the Beast Tide charged towards Stone Claw, the thousands upon thousands of beasts letting loose cries of war, the warriors of Stone Claw made moves as well.
"Archers! To the top of the walls!"
Atop stone walls that were several dozen feet high and several feet thick, reinforced with metal and aether arrays, multiple aether warriors armed with long ranged bow and arrows prepared themselves to open the first volley.
Mundane bow and arrows wouldn’t do much against the incoming horde, but arrows tipped with explosive aether arrays and fired by warriors who had access to bow based aether arts were another story entirely.
Not only that, but the wall was filled with other surprises.
"Ready the catapults!"
"Get those ballistas armed and ready!"
"Cannon teams, load up!"
Interspersed across the walls were several large towers that were topped with a multitude of catapults and ballista, each being loaded with projectiles of carved stone.
Joining the archers atop the wall, teams of cannoneers readied themselves to fire upon the charging horde.
The people working these siege engines were all warriors that were skilled in melee to mid-range combat. While none were particularly skilled at using ranged implements, they could at least be drilled into understanding how to work a siege engine well enough to fire it into a horde.
Plus, it kept them ready to intercept if any of the incoming aether beasts decided to get smart and climb the wall.
But before any of that kind of skirmish could take place, the defenders had to think out the herd a bit.
"Wait a minute, why are we taking the lead? Don’t we have literal Grandmasters that know how to use a World-class aether art?"
"We do, but take a closer look at the vanguard. Most of those beasts are first tier to third tier at best. Wasting energy on them while the big guys are hiding away is a terrible idea."
"Ah, cannon fodder. Got it."
"Archers! Ready your arrows!," a feminine voice empowered by aether called out across the wall. "Siege teams, prepare for the second volley!"
"Yes ma’am!"
Leading the ranged assault was a pale skinned woman, dressed in armor made of giant insect’s chitin, and wielding a bow that was at least her size and then some.
This woman was none other than Rianna, one of Zhen Liu’s lovers, and someone who had just broken through to the aether Grandmaster rank after undergoing intense training with Arachnidame and Lacerage.
She had yet to bust out her [Regalia] though due to not needing the extra defensive layer...yet.
Right now, she just needed to showcase the reason why she was leading this effort in the first place.
In one fluid motion, Rianna anchored her bow into the ground and notched an arrow the size of a spear into it.
Following her lead, the other archers notched arrows into their bows, although theirs were a bit smaller.
"Archers, prepare your arts!"
"Yes, ma’am!"
Once this command was given, all of the bow wielding warriors began to condense aether into their bows, their arrows and their arms.
The air surrounding the warriors began to spark and distort due to all of the aether auras becoming denser and denser, with some of these auras taking shape.
[Spiral Hornet Lance.]
In Rianna’s case, the aura encapsulating her began to take the shape of a giant wasp with a stinger that spiralled like a drill.
As the archers prepared to fire though, the Beast Tide got closer and closer.
It had actually gotten to the point that the more eagle eyed warriors could make out the exact beasts that they were staring down.
"Rock-Hair Bison, Stone-Fanged Wolves, Iron-Scale Lizard Beasts, Bronze-Winged Vultures...damn. The scouts were right. It’s like the entire frontier got riled up."
"Yeah, well, they’re about to blasted to kingdom come!"
"Archers, let loose hell! Fire!"
FWOOM!
One after the other, arrow aether art after arrow aether art was sent flying towards the incoming horde at speeds that would put lighting bolts to shame.
Rianna’s arrow though was arguably the most impressive, as it took on the shape of a massive spinning tornado-like drill about half way through its flight.
A cacophony of growls, yowls, roars and screeches filled the air as the arrows made contact, slaying or obliterating multiple aether beasts before getting stuck in tougher beasts or impacting the ground.
"Direct hit!"
"Yeah, but there’s still a ton of them!"
This onslaught of arrows did wonders in thinning out the herd, but it wasn’t enough.
Despite the fresh amount of corpses now littering the ground, making it harder to traverse, the Beast Tide horde simply trampled over the bodies and kept charging forward.
Just in time to be in range for the second round of attacks.
"Artillery squads, fire!"
BOOM!
FWUNG!
SWOOSH!
In no particular order, pillars of stone, smoothed boulders and balls of iron were fired indiscriminately into the horde.
The boulders, fired by the catapults, slammed into a couple of invading beasts before continuing to roll by the momentum and crushing even more beasts in their paths.
The pillars of stone fire by the ballista simply plowed through some of the charging beasts before crashing into the ground and acting as a deterrent.
As for the cannonballs, if the initial explosion didn’t kill or injured any of the beasts, the shrapnel sure as shit did.
"Archers at the ready! Artillery squad, reload while the archers continue to fire."
"Yes, ma’am!"
In an ideal scenario, these long ranged attacks would wipe out the encroaching horde and that would be that.
But this wasn’t an ideal situation, and the horde a lot more than just ground bound beasts.
"Archers, get ready to-"
"Incoming!"
SKREEE!
Just as the archers were about to let loose another volley a swarm of Bronze Winged Vultures and Iron-Beaked Condors came swooping out of the skies and attempted to attack the archers, only for them to get pelted by arrows.
Unfortunately, this only caused the avian aether beasts to change their targets to the much more vulnerable siege engines.
They didn’t even need to fully pull them away and drop them to slow down the defenders, as the mere act of flipping them over was enough to take away precious time.
If this problem wasn’t handled soon, then a good chunk of the horde would come crashing down on them.
"Fucking hell, I can’t get a clean hit on these stupid birds!"
"Then ignore them for now and just flip the cannon back-up!"
"I want half of the archers defending the engines, everyone else, focus on the horde!"
...Meanwhile, in Roaring Tide...
"Alright, where the fuck is Zhen Feng?"
"I think he’s in the bathroom."
"Now? I understand nature’s call is nature’s call, but..."
"In his own words, teleporting upsets his stomach."
"I...ya know what? Fair enough."
