Just Graduated, the Aloof School Flower Brought the Baby to the Door?-Chapter 15 - Thrift
Chapter 15: Thrift
Before Lin Yang stepped out, the maternity nurse arrived.
Hearing the knock on the door, Lin Yang already knew who it was and promptly opened it.
Standing at the doorstep was a beautiful woman in her thirties or forties.
“Are you Mr. Lin? I’m the maternity nurse you hired. You can call me Aunt Lan.”
Aunt Lan bowed politely and introduced herself.
She had been curious all the way here.
This assignment was unusual—it specifically stated that cooking was not required, and the price was the same as usual.
It was the first time she encountered such a request.
As she looked at Lin Yang, she couldn’t help but be surprised.
He appeared so young.
However, she maintained her professional demeanor; that was the basic ethics of a maternity nurse.
“Ah, you’ve come at the right time,” Lin Yang said.
“I’m going out to buy groceries. While I’m away, could you take care of the babies and the mother? Also, feel free to familiarize yourself with the place.”
“That’s not a problem,” Aunt Lan replied, nodding graciously.
Internally, she marveled at how easygoing her employer was.
She hadn’t expected such a pleasant interaction.
Lin Yang changed his shoes and left.
Although he didn’t completely trust the maternity nurse, he had noticed surveillance cameras in the living room and the baby’s room while cleaning.
He could monitor Aunt Lan’s actions on his phone, which eased his worries.
He quickly checked the area.
Although it was a suburban location with less-than-ideal surroundings, it had one significant advantage: a supermarket downstairs.
The vegetable market was a bit farther, about a kilometer away.
Despite the extra walk, he decided to head to the market for fresh produce.
The vegetable market was bustling with life.
Lin Yang entered without hesitation, passing numerous stalls displaying various vegetables.
The vendors’ calls and customers’ haggling filled the air.
He found a pork stall and asked, “How much for these pig trotters?” pointing to the ones on the counter.
“Front trotters are 22, hind trotters are 20,” the enthusiastic vendor replied.
Front trotters had more meat and fewer bones, hence the higher price.
“Give me two front trotters.”
“Can’t you make it a bit cheaper?”
“My wife just gave birth, and I need them,” he added with a smile.
“Pick out two large ones, please.”
The vendor chuckled, pretending to be at a loss.
“Well, young man, you drive a hard bargain. Fine, I’ll give them to you for 42.”
“Let’s round it down to 40,” Lin Yang negotiated. “I’ll take them.”
The vegetable market might have fresh produce, but prices tended to be higher.
Lin Yang was practical; even with money, he couldn’t afford to be extravagant. Its better to thrifty when possible.
“Kid, you’re quite the bargainer,” the vendor said.
The source of this c𝓸ntent is freewebnøvel.coɱ.
“Okay, 40 it is. But keep it between us.””You’ll have to buy it from me next time!”
The vendor hesitated for a moment.
Finally, he handed Lin Yang a bag with the trotters.”Thank you, boss.”
Afterward, Lin Yang found a fish stall.
“How much for the sea bass?” he asked, pointing to the fish in the tank.
“Sea bass is 25 per pound, freshwater bass is 21.”
“I’ll take the sea bass at 22 yuan.”
“Give me a larger one,” he added.
“Young man, you’ve really slashed the price. My cost price is only 23 yuan. You should let me make some profit too.”
“How about 24? I’ll reluctantly sell it to you.”
He knew that 22 was a bit too low; in fact, 23 was the ideal price.
The fact that the boss mentioned a cost price of 23 essentially meant it was the lowest he could offer.
Lin Yang understood this well.
“Alright then, 23 yuan”
Lin Yang said with a smile.
“I’ve just moved nearby, so I’ll be coming to this market often.”
“Sure, young man”
“At 23 yuan per kilogram, consider us friends!”
Without hesitation, the fish seller scooped out a lively, wriggling large sea bass from the tank.
“Let me prepare it for you. Wait a moment,” the seller said, heading toward a small room behind the stall.
That room was used for fish preparation, and usually, when customers bought fish at the market, the seller would handle the cleaning and gutting.
“No need, boss,” Lin Yang interjected.
“I’ll take it home and handle it myself.”
Lin Yang had no intention of letting the boss do the job.
He waved his hand, ready to leave.
“Young man, cleaning this fish can be quite tricky. Are you sure you can manage?”
The boss’s expression soured.
Nevertheless, Lin Yang persisted, reaching out to take the lively fish from the bag.
He also bought some red beans and peanuts.
With a nonchalant demeanor, Lin Yang headed home.
Back home, the nanny had just finished changing the babies’ diapers.
Shu Mengyao was probably hungry and feeling a bit anxious.
She sat on the bed, eagerly waiting for him.
“Yao Yao, I’m back”
“Are you hungry?”
He placed the bags of groceries in the kitchen and first checked on the babies.
Then he entered the master bedroom, where Shu Mengyao sat.
“Not hungry,” she replied.
“I’ve been waiting for you.”
Before she could finish her sentence, her stomach rumbled loudly.
Her face flushed even redder.
She wished she could find a place to hide.
Why was her stomach so unreliable?
It never gave her a chance to deceive anyone.
“Wait a moment; lunch will be ready soon,” Lin Yang said, ruffling Shu Mengyao’s hair.
Her hair was soft, and he enjoyed the sensation.
Each time he touched her hair, it felt like petting a little cat.
He was becoming addicted to it.
Retracting his hand, Lin Yang hurried to the kitchen.
“Mr. Lin, is there anything I can help with?” Lan Yi, the nanny, asked.
“The baby is already asleep, and I have some free time.”
After a moment’s hesitation, she followed him into the kitchen.
“No need; I’ll go ahead and clean the fish,” Lin Yang said, pulling out the lively sea bass.
“Mr. Lin, when you buy fish at the market, you can ask the vendors to clean it for you. You don’t need to do it yourself.”
Clearly, he was still quite young and lacked life experience.
“The vendors at the market usually took the fish to a small room behind the stall to clean it.”
“Often, they would secretly replace live fish with dead ones.”
“If you let them handle it, the fish might not be as fresh,” Lin Yang explained with a smile.
This fish was meant for postpartum recovery, and he didn’t want to take any risks.
