Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 695 - 694 That’s Goddess Nuwa!
"There’s nothing to apologize for," said Chen Nuo. "Besides, it was I who wanted to keep you for dinner. Your staying is a favor to me. If you bring up apologies again, it’d make me seem insincere."
"It’s not that I—uh..." Yang Chan had intended to apologize to Chen Nuo again, but since Chen Nuo had just told her there was no need for apologies, she quickly retracted her words.
But merely retracting her words wasn’t enough; she found herself unable to utter any polite niceties thereafter, standing there engulfed in awkwardness.
Chen Nuo found Yang Chan’s behavior quite odd. She had spoken to Chen Nuo quite normally before, but ever since Chen Nuo knew of her affection, Yang Chan had become increasingly tongue-tied.
Exactly what kind of feeling was this affection that it could transform a normal person into such a state?
"All right, let’s not dwell on it," Chen Nuo said with a smile. "The Demon Core you gave me turned out to be very helpful. I truly hadn’t remembered its use before."
Yang Chan, who had been worrying over her own clumsiness, suddenly stopped upon hearing Chen Nuo’s words, and a wave of excitement surged within her. With a bashful voice, she said, "I’m glad I could help Shopkeeper Chen."
"I should be the one thanking you," laughed Chen Nuo.
"No, there’s no need," Yang Chan quickly waved her hand.
"I heard there was a severe drought in the mortal world recently, followed by floods. The Third Holy Mother must have been busy for a long while, I suppose?" Chen Nuo asked, feigning nonchalance.
Without giving it much thought, Yang Chan took Chen Nuo’s question as a mere courteous inquiry, replying, "There was a drought for some time, and several places in the mortal world faced flooding, but none of it was a major disaster. It was all due to changes in the earth’s veins during a dynastic change in the mortal world."
Listened to Yang Chan’s description, it seemed this event had occurred before the Great Tang dynasty. Considering the timeline, the Great Tang’s glorious period was near, so the floods and such must have been resolved long ago.
"Did the Third Holy Mother encounter any demons or monsters causing trouble when she descended to relieve the disasters?" inquired Chen Nuo.
"Recently, around the time Marshal Tian Peng was demoted to the mortal world, I heard that not only Tian Peng but several divine officials were demoted over various issues. In all of this, was there something amiss?"
Chen Nuo’s inquiries were now more detailed. The Third Holy Mother initially didn’t plan to discuss it with Chen Nuo, but seeing Chen Nuo look at her with a smile, waiting for her to continue, she felt compelled.
Even if she chose not to speak, Chen Nuo probably wouldn’t press the matter, but faced with Chen Nuo’s gaze, the Third Holy Mother simply couldn’t utter a word of refusal.
"It’s not that I haven’t encountered any, but as for whether these creatures were divine officials or Mythical Beasts punished by the Jade Emperor, I genuinely don’t know for sure."
"Shopkeeper Chen, you must be aware that Immortals or Mythical Beasts who are banished to the mortal world have their memories from the Heavenly Realm erased. Unless one deliberately seeks them out, their mortal identities are difficult to ascertain," she said.
Chen Nuo chuckled, "Of course, I was just asking casually."
"Are you trying to find out about Tian Peng’s whereabouts?" Yang Chan asked.
The fact that Tian Peng had already reestablished contact with Chaos Residence was known only to Nuwa.
Originally, Tian Peng had returned to greet the guests, but Chen Nuo never expected to come back so soon, so Tian Peng didn’t get involved in entertaining the guests.
Chen Nuo was actually looking to gather evidence of the Jade Emperor’s collusion with Buddhism, but it seemed the Third Holy Mother wasn’t an ideal starting point.
He didn’t tell Yang Chan the truth but nodded along with her words, "Yes, after all, he was a partner at our Chaos Residence, so his banishment to the mortal realm is indeed worrying."
"Indeed, Marshal Tian Peng was always with you when he was in the Heavenly Realm," Yang Chan nodded. However, she truly was unclear about Tian Peng’s whereabouts, so she looked up at Chen Nuo and said,
"I mostly go to the mortal realm for disaster relief, and I haven’t really paid attention to this matter. How about this, Shopkeeper Chen, I will keep in mind what you’ve told me, and I will keep an eye out when I descend in the future. If I find any information about Tian Peng, I will inform you right away."
Chen Nuo appeared very grateful and bowed to Yang Chan, "Then I thank the Third Holy Mother immensely. But please don’t go out of your way to look for him. Our people are also searching for his whereabouts, so just keep an eye out for me."
"Alright, I understand. I will keep an eye out for you," said Yang Chan. "Well, if there’s nothing else, Shopkeeper Chen, I will take my leave. If I find out anything about Marshal Tian Peng, I will tell you immediately."
"Thank you very much," replied Chen Nuo.
After seeing off Yang Chan, Chen Nuo walked from the lobby into the kitchen, where, except for Tian Peng, the other three were still lingering in the kitchen.
The kitchen, designed with good lighting in mind, had one whole wall facing the courtyard made of frosted tempered glass, and it was the kind where those outside couldn’t see in. While you couldn’t see inside from outside, you could clearly see out from the inside.
"Lin, Shopkeeper Chen, I think I just saw Goddess Nuwa!" Little White Dragon stood up excitedly the moment he saw Chen Nuo enter.
There was no way he could be mistaken; he was certain he wouldn’t mistake her. Even though her attire was different, that silhouette, that demeanor, and such a beautiful face could only belong to Nuwa.
"It was Nuwa," Chen Nuo confirmed. "What about it?"
Sun Wukong and Sha Wujing, too, looked at Little White Dragon with the same expression. Although they didn’t speak, just from their looks, it was evident that they shared Chen Nuo’s sentiment.
"That’s Nuwa! How can you all not be the least bit excited?" Little White Dragon had only seen Nuwa once, and though it had always been from a distance, everyone knew who Nuwa was. Just one glance and you would never forget her after that.
Even now, seated in the kitchen, just one distant glance, even if it was just at the hem of her garment, he knew it was Goddess Nuwa.
"Why should we be excited?" Sun Wukong found Little White Dragon’s excitement a bit puzzling. "I saw that you recognized Nuwa with just one look, so you must have seen her before, right?"
"I have, a couple of times, hundreds of years ago," said Little White Dragon.
"Well, there you go. You’ve seen her, we’ve seen her, we’ve all seen her; if we’ve all seen her, there’s nothing to be excited about," Sun Wukong shrugged. He genuinely didn’t understand Little White Dragon’s train of thought.
"Goddess Nuwa has come here to dine more than once or twice. If we got excited every time, we would probably die of excitement by now," Sun Wukong continued with a nonchalant remark that further fueled Little White Dragon’s excitement. He grabbed Sun Wukong’s sleeve, "Really? Does Goddess Nuwa really come here to dine often?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Do I look like I’m lying to you?" Sun Wukong retorted.
Not at all, of course not.
Setting aside their nature of not idolizing Nuwa excessively, if it were Nuwa’s first visit to the restaurant, considering Goddess Nuwa’s status, they would all have gone out to greet her; it would have been impossible for them to be sitting so calmly in the kitchen.
"Why would Goddess Nuwa come here to eat?" Little White Dragon asked, still in disbelief. He had thought that immortals like Goddess Nuwa were beyond worldly sustenance, yet here she was dining at Chaos Residence, which truly broadened his horizons.
