Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 667 - 666: Two Women Argue
Goddess Nuwa had originally planned to continue eating, but lifted her head when she heard Yang Chan’s words, then glanced at Xuan Feng.
Xuan Feng looked back at her with the same exasperated expression as before.
No wonder Xuan Feng’s remarks had been so erratic and incomprehensible; she had wanted her to join the conversation.
If she had picked up on Xuan Feng’s cue earlier, it would now be Yang Chan who was in trouble for missing out on an opportunity to display her eloquence in front of Chen Nuo.
Goddess Nuwa also regretted in her heart, blaming Xuan Feng for not making her hints clear enough, and blaming Chen Nuo’s little cakes for being too delicious, which caused her to miss Xuan Feng’s hints due to her utter enchantment with the food.
Chen Nuo had initially planned to stand aside and wait for them to finish eating before making his judgment, but he hadn’t expected that just after serving one piece of cake, a confrontation would erupt, and it seemed that he was the main cause, making him feel like a man as troublesome as a femme fatale.
And indeed, he had not yet thought about matters of love and decided to withdraw from the battlefield first.
"Everyone has a different personality, and of course, the way they describe and appreciate the same thing will vary," Chen Nuo said. "You continue eating, I’ll go get you other cakes."
Xuan Feng had been waiting for Chen Nuo to say something in favor of Goddess Nuwa, but he left the hall after a noncommittal comment that neither sided with nor offended anyone.
Suddenly feeling a bit resentful, but remembering that Chen Nuo was off to get more cakes, Xuan Feng didn’t say anything and just glared at him as he walked away.
With Chen Nuo gone, the atmosphere on the scene became slightly awkward.
Yang Chan was a bit angry with Xuan Feng for setting up a trap for her in front of Chen Nuo. She greatly admired Goddess Nuwa, but she was annoyed with Xuan Feng who was at her side.
She had simply praised the cake for being delicious, but Xuan Feng had seized on that, accusing her of not genuinely liking Chen Nuo’s little cake.
Fortunately, Chen Nuo hadn’t taken the bait and had shifted the topic away. If Chen Nuo had actually taken Xuan Feng’s words seriously, then she would have been unable to clear herself.
Thinking this, Yang Chan looked resentfully at Xuan Feng.
Xuan Feng felt a bit guilty, but knowing that her mistress was there backing her up, what could Yang Chan do to her, no matter how angry she got? Thus, Xuan Feng straightened up and met Yang Chan’s gaze.
"Xuan Feng, weren’t your words just now a bit excessive? I never intended to argue with you, but this isn’t the first time you’ve provoked me. What exactly are you trying to do?" Yang Chan spoke up.
Despite feeling guilty, Xuan Feng couldn’t afford to show weakness. Hearing Yang Chan speak to her like that, she also grew angry.
With Goddess Nuwa sitting beside her, here was Yang Chan acting as if she were the one wronged. If Goddess Nuwa weren’t here, would she have attacked Xuan Feng?
Acting on this logic, Xuan Feng retorted to Yang Chan, "Third Holy Mother, what do you mean? I didn’t really say anything, did I? Didn’t Shopkeeper Chen just mention that each person is different? I just think that if you like something, you should eat it all at once like our goddess does, and then praise it; that’s what it means to like it. What’s wrong if I say that praising it after just one bite is an act?"
"You’re being completely unreasonable," Yang Chan said.
The more Yang Chan spoke, the more emboldened Xuan Feng became. Upon hearing Yang Chan’s words, she straightened up even more, "So what? That’s just my personality, I am unreasonable. We are in Chaos Residence; do you still think you can hit me?"
Of course, Yang Chan couldn’t strike her, and her grip on the table slowly tightened.
She was genuinely trying to restrain her movements, for fighting was never commendable, and considering the circumstances, it was even less appropriate for Yang Chan to act out.
Xuan Feng, with her keen eyes, noticed Yang Chan’s clenched fists and blurted out with a puff, "Look at your fists, just like I said, you really do want to hit me, don’t you? With Goddess Nuwa right here, you’re thinking about hitting me. Are you telling me that when we’re alone, you might even want to beat me to death?"
Yang Chan frowned at Xuan Feng and then released her tight grip.
She did want to hit Xuan Feng, but she certainly couldn’t admit that. Unlike Xuan Feng’s incessant nipping at every little thing, it seemed less like a bird’s behavior and more like that of a dog.
"I never said I wanted to hit you. Don’t put your wild assumptions on my head," she retorted.
"How can this be a wild assumption!"
Xuan Feng became vociferous in her protest. If she were in her bird form, she would have probably been flapping her wings and squawking by now.
"Goddess Nuwa, look at this! I can’t believe Third Holy Mother could be such a person. She almost greeted my face with her fist just now, and she still won’t admit it. It’s totally outrageous! She doesn’t have the slightest demeanor of a goddess."
"Don’t spout nonsense!" Yang Chan roared angrily.
She was truly angered and lost control of her voice, snapping directly at Xuan Feng.
Chen Nuo was idly enjoying his time in the kitchen when he heard Yang Chan’s voice. Turning his head, he hesitated, wondering whether he should check what the commotion was all about.
"Master, it seems like there is a situation over there. Has something happened? Should we go and have a look?" Sun Wukong, who had also heard the noise, asked with a gossip-hungry grin.
Chen Nuo didn’t move and listened intently to the conversation from afar before shaking his head, "It doesn’t seem like anything serious. You know Xuan Feng’s personality. Thankfully she’s Nuwa’s mount; if she were just an ordinary fairy, she would have been smacked several times by now."
Sun Wukong chuckled, "True, Master, you really do have a thorough way of putting it. But you know the reason for their quarrel, don’t you? Are you sure you don’t want to go over there and see what’s happening for yourself?"
"Why should I?" Chen Nuo glanced at Sun Wukong, noticing his eagerness for gossip. He wasn’t foolish enough to amuse others at the expense of his dignity, "If you’re really that curious, then you can go when it’s time to deliver the cake. Then, you can also get a close look at what’s actually happening."
Upon hearing Chen Nuo’s suggestion, Sun Wukong’s smile stiffened, "Let’s not. I’m not actually that interested in what’s going on over there."
"Come on," Chen Nuo said nonchalantly, mimicking Sun Wukong’s earlier comment.
"Who knows what’s happened over there, and you are currently my only disciple. As such, it’s only right for a disciple to help out with their master’s issues, isn’t it?"
"No, no, Master, I’m really not that curious about it," Sun Wukong hastily denied.
Only Chen Nuo could resolve this conflict. If he were to go, not only would he be ineffective, he might even become the target of their joint anger. This was something he preferred not to get involved with.
"Too late," Chen Nuo stated indifferently, deciding for Sun Wukong, "I’ve just made up my mind. You will deliver the Black Forest Cake later."
Sun Wukong looked at Chen Nuo with a face full of grievance, "Master, I was wrong to tease you. It’s all my fault, but I really do not want to get involved in that matter."
