Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 464: System Regression
Both of them merely inquired about the situation, and when Yama was preparing to take them to visit Lady He’s place, both of them chose to refuse.
They had come only because of He Xi, and knowing the situation was enough; after all, He Xi couldn’t see for herself, so there was no need for them to visit.
After arriving in the Mortal World, Chen Nuo stood at the entrance of the small courtyard, "How do you plan to tell Xi? Will you tell her in person?"
"I had only agreed verbally to this matter, and it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to tell her in person," Nuwa said. "After all, this matter isn’t very pleasing. Could you trouble yourself to place this beside her pillow?"
Nuwa held a flower in her hand, which Chen Nuo took, "What is this?"
"I’ve placed a dream inside it; when she falls asleep, she will enter the dream, and I have crafted the scenes within it," Nuwa explained. "The words I want to say to her, I’d rather tell her in the dream."
"Okay," Chen Nuo took the flower, "I believe she will be very happy."
After Nuwa left, Chen Nuo entered the courtyard; by this time, it was night, and He Xi had already fallen asleep.
After placing the flower beside He Xi’s pillow, Chen Nuo left He Xi’s room and went back to his own.
"System, have you come back?"
"I am here," came the mechanical voice from the system.
"What’s the matter?" Chen Nuo was a bit puzzled, "Did they change personnel?"
"Dear, no one has been switched out," the voice was still mechanical.
Chen Nuo was stunned for a moment, wondering what was going on. He had not heard the system’s voice for a long time since it had suddenly disappeared last time. He had thought that there would be no system afterward, but it had returned, only to its original state.
"What’s going on?" Chen Nuo repeated his question.
"Dear, due to a rule violation, the energy ball reward has been deducted, so it will no longer use a normal tone of speech," the system replied with its mechanical voice.
Chen Nuo was relieved, it seemed that the system hadn’t been swapped out.
"Were you punished by those above? Besides the deduction of your reward, is there anything else?" Chen Nuo asked.
"This side believes that the deduction of rewards is already the severest punishment. Do you, as the host, think the deduction is not severe enough?"
It must be said that the words spoken by the system with its mechanical voice were quite sarcastic. Chen Nuo was speechless for a moment before he continued, "Then why did you disappear for such a long time?"
"Does the host think my long absence was due to a time discrepancy between us? To the host, it has been more than a year, but for me, it was merely two days without responding to the host," the system answered.
Chen Nuo was so irritated by the sarcastic voice that he felt like hitting someone, but he was helpless against the system.
He patiently continued to ask, "So where did you go these two days? If you violated the rules, will I be punished? How is this rule violation mechanism calculated?"
"Host, please ask one question at a time, I can’t answer them all at once," the system replied.
"Crack." Chen Nuo’s knuckles cracked, he really felt like hitting someone now.
"First thing, because I was in a bad mood after being punished, I unilaterally decided to give myself a two-day vacation. Thankfully, during this vacay, I was able to revisit the temptation of going home," the system said.
"Second thing," Chen Nuo spoke emotionlessly.
"About the second issue, it wasn’t just you who noticed; the higher-ups did too, with several others reporting similar matters. Since we are one entity, I was the only one punished. You won’t face any issues. Annoying, isn’t it?"
Even though the words were typed out one by one, Chen Nuo could sense the system was still responding in a snarky tone.
"Moving on to your third question, of course, the upper levels set the rules for violations, and I can see what might constitute a breach. But, due to my survivor’s guilt, my casual interactions with you led to my punishment. Now I’m under close watch, so please, host, don’t ask too many questions. I will answer selectively."
"If that’s the case, what use are you?" Chen Nuo raised an eyebrow.
"Please don’t say that, host," the system responded. "Our main purpose is to distribute rewards to you and enable the host to consume Merit Points. During my absence, I noticed that you’ve been trying to contact me to consume Merit Points."
"So you heard me every time I called for you?" Chen Nuo felt the urge to hit someone surge again.
"As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to take a few days off for myself."
"Fine, so even if I go back to Chaos Residence, there won’t be any problems, right?" Chen Nuo asked.
"Haha, you really are quite cautious, worried that returning to Chaos Residence might be dangerous and considering settling down in the Mortal World instead," the system said in an annoying tone.
"Keep talking smack and see if I don’t make you suffer even greater punishment right now," Chen Nuo ground his teeth in anger.
"Observation here shows that the host is quite fond of living. Naturally, you wouldn’t choose self-destruction over such a trivial matter. Also, I think you and Goddess Nuwa really make a great pair."
Chen Nuo felt resigned, alright, the system was right, he did value his life. But it didn’t matter; once he became strong enough to break free from the system’s control, he would definitely pull it out for a beating.
"You’ve been getting quite close to Goddess Nuwa lately. It’s been observed that not only Goddess Nuwa, but Yang Chan and Fairy Baihua are also quite taken with you. By the way, Journey to the West is not monogamous; you can fancy many people at the same time," the system said.
"I have no plans to get married just yet. We’re only halfway through, and I haven’t started thinking about what comes later." Chen Nuo hadn’t put much thought into it; he still wanted to thoroughly disrupt the Journey to the West.
Originally, he came to the Mortal World because the system disappeared. But now that the system was back, there was no need to stay in the Mortal World any longer.
But He Xi was only eleven years old now. Since he had promised to take care of her, even though he had to leave, he couldn’t just up and go. Chen Nuo thought it over and decided on a compromise.
He had to return to Chaos Residence, but not just yet. Chen Nuo planned to wait until He Xi turned eighteen before leaving, and then he’d hand over the Oil Shop to her. In the meantime, he had to teach her how to manage the Oil Shop.
The next day, Chen Nuo didn’t choose to let He Xi stay at home but brought her along to the Oil Shop instead.
"Chen, why suddenly take me with you to the shop?" He Xi asked. "Is the Oil Shop too busy, and you can’t manage by yourself?"
"No, Xi, there’s something I need to tell you."
Chen Nuo figured the day of parting would always come. It was best to be upfront, "In a few years, I won’t be able to stay with you all the time. I have other things to attend to. So I’m planning to give the shop to you."
He Xi was well aware that Chen Nuo would eventually leave, but the suddenness of it caught her by surprise.
Although disappointed, He Xi knew that Chen Nuo had taken her in out of kindness. Being an Immortal, he had already delayed his own affairs for her sake for quite some time.
