Chapter 462: Chapter 462: The Survivor Yin Envoy

Yama usually does not leave the great hall, and the news is only passed on after a Yin Envoy returns; rather than asking Yama, it would be faster to deduce the direction of the Evil Ghost based on these clues.

Time is of the essence now, and Chen Nuo does not have much leisure time to explain to Nuwa. He simply says, "Just follow me, and you can ask all your questions after we’ve captured the Evil Ghost."

Nuwa isn’t talkative; she nods her head and follows Chen Nuo.

This area is still under the jurisdiction of the underworld, replete with poisonous miasma, especially dark, and eerily silent all around. To find an Evil Ghost here, one mainly relies on the six senses and mana.

Chen Nuo stands amidst the miasma, closes his eyes, and uses his mana to search within this Earth Realm.

Surrounded by miasmic vines that pass through his mind like a carousel, he quickly spots a trembling Yin Envoy hiding behind a tree, looking very scared, as if something were after him.

"This is the place," Chen Nuo opens his eyes and says to Nuwa, "I’ve found where that Evil Ghost is, just follow me."

Near the Naihe Bridge, weeds flourish amidst the rising miasma, and apart from a few tattered clothes of Yin Envoys, there’s nothing else on the ground.

Only in one spot are the weeds flattened, and there are specks of green blood on the ground, signifying a fierce struggle had taken place. Chen Nuo stands on the side and surveys the vicinity.

"It must have been here just now that the Evil Ghost devoured several Yin soldiers."

"This green blood is?" Nuwa looks at the blood on the ground, puzzled, as the blood of ordinary Yin Envoys is red. She has not seen green blood before.

"It belongs to that Evil Ghost," Chen Nuo says.

"Evil Ghost?" Nuwa’s eyes widen slightly; the affairs of the underworld are not for her to manage, and there are many things about it she does not understand.

"This Evil Ghost feeds on its kind, turning them into its own strength; it is no longer considered a ghost. It appears like a demon, but is not one, and has become a monster not belonging to the six realms," Chen Nuo explains. "It is likely that during the struggle earlier, although the Yin Envoys were annihilated, they also wounded it."

After explaining, Chen Nuo suddenly recalls the Yin Envoy he had seen while searching for the Evil Ghost. He heads towards the place where the Yin Envoy was hiding, and indeed, he finds a trembling figure.

"Please, I beg you, don’t kill me, please don’t kill me."

The Yin Envoy trembles, eyes closed and leaning against the tree trunk. Hearing noise from this side, he does not dare to open his eyes, and repeats, "I beg you, don’t kill me."

"That Evil Ghost has already left," Chen Nuo speaks. "You can open your eyes and see."

Hearing it’s not the Evil Ghost, the Yin Envoy opens his eyes, relieved to see Chen Nuo, but he doesn’t seem very happy. Instead, he first looks around, then asks, "Who are you?"

"I am here to capture that Evil Ghost," Chen Nuo replies. "You’re a Yin Envoy sent by Yama, right? Where did the Evil Ghost go? Do you know?"

Hearing ’Evil Ghost,’ the Yin Envoy shudders, then shakes his head. "I, I don’t know. I advise you to hurry back; that Evil Ghost is not easy to capture. Better to return and report to Yama immediately, to let him promptly report to the Jade Emperor and have the Heavenly Court send someone."

"What does that Evil Ghost look like?" Chen Nuo asks.

"It’s better if you don’t know, that evil ghost is just too terrifying. Even if it meant dying a hundred times, I absolutely wouldn’t deal with that evil ghost again." The Yin Envoy slowly climbed up from the tree trunk, then prepared to leave.

"Wait, all your partners were eaten by that evil ghost, and you’re just going to go back like this, without even giving us a little information—even though we’re here to help you catch the evil ghost?" Chen Nuo stopped the Yin Envoy. "Is this how the Underworld operates? No wonder this evil ghost has been elusive for so long; I’m afraid you’ve just been going up there in turn to be devoured!"

Chen Nuo hit a sore point, and the Yin Envoy, having no idea who the person in front of him was and mistaking him for some cultivator, was admittedly a coward, but still got angry at being called out in public, "You really don’t know what’s good for you. I kindly advised you to leave, but you won’t, will you? If you want to die, don’t drag me into it; I want to live a few more days."

"So you’re planning to run for your life and not willing to tell me about the evil ghost?" Chen Nuo looked at the Yin Envoy’s cowardly manner, reasoning that since he managed to escape from the jaws of death, he either had exceptional abilities, or he had been hiding from the start.

"Telling you would be useless," the Yin Envoy struggled free from Chen Nuo. "That evil ghost is truly terrifying. I don’t ever want to see such a scene again in my life. I’m kindly advising you, and since you’re not listening, I have nothing more to say to you."

"Alright then, since you’re unwilling to tell us, you can go." Persuasion was futile, and Chen Nuo didn’t plan to waste more time, so he let him leave.

The Yin Envoy dragged his trembling legs, step by step towards the entrance to the Underworld. He took a couple of steps, thought it over, and decided to tell the two people about the evil ghost after all.

"That evil ghost is covered in sharp teeth, has two faces, and those two faces can even talk to each other."

Two faces that can talk to each other?

Chen Nuo pondered this in his mind—wasn’t this just like Granny in "A Chinese Ghost Story"? Could it be some hermaphroditic monster?

"Those two faces—one keeps screaming ’so hungry, so hungry,’ while the other yells ’so much pain, so much pain,’ and they can even tempt the mind. Just seeing them is enough to scare you out of your wits," the Yin Envoy described further.

One face screaming ’so hungry, so hungry’—Chen Nuo pondered over the information, could it be that the face screaming ’so hungry’ is the one that devours souls?

Is it one soul with two states, or are there two souls? It seems he would have to see the evil ghost’s true form to come to a conclusion.

"It’s really too terrifying!" As the Yin Envoy recalled the appearance of the evil ghost, he was still very afraid. While speaking loudly to Chen Nuo, he continued to describe the evil ghost.

He was very scared initially, but knowing there were others behind him gave him a bit more courage.

Only then did he dare to recall that state, and although he was a coward, it wasn’t enough to leave lasting trauma. After all, as a Yin Envoy, having seen much, going through the frying pan or walking up the mountain of knives was nothing unusual.

And the Yin Envoy had no emotions; even though he lost several companions, to a Yin Envoy, nothing is more important than one’s own life.

"That evil ghost is especially fast. Since you’re determined to capture the evil ghost, you have to be faster than it; otherwise, you could be devoured by the evil ghost within minutes."

As the Yin Envoy spoke, he wiped the sweat from his forehead. It felt like a cold breeze had just passed by, which was strange—there shouldn’t be any wind in the Underworld. Could it have been just his imagination?

"Something seems off." Chen Nuo sensed a change in the nearby aura. He used his mana to scan the surroundings, but nothing seemed amiss.

Nuwa also furrowed her brows, having noticed that the miasma seemed to have gotten heavier. "Could it be that the evil ghost has arrived?"

At Nuwa’s reminder, Chen Nuo immediately took out a magic artifact to form a protective barrier around them. Although he had absolute confidence in his mana, he still needed to take the necessary precautions.
