Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 447: Seeing He Xi Again
The conversations outside also drifted into the shop, where Chen Nuo was sitting inside, Sun Wukong was at the oil barrel filling oil for a customer, and Tian Peng stood just inside the door, looking somewhat at a loss.
"Who told you guys to come over?" Chen Nuo asked.
"Heh heh, no one told us to come, it’s just that the bubble tea shop’s opening is complete, and we’re here to report the situation to you," Tian Peng said with a laugh.
Chen Nuo looked at him indifferently, sending a chill down Tian Peng’s neck, "What are you looking at me like that for, Shopkeeper Chen?"
"You say you’re here to report on the situation," Chen Nuo tapped his finger on the wooden counter, "Is this how you report? If I hadn’t stopped you, you’d probably have started arguing with that guy, right? Do you still think you’re up above?"
"Ouch, no, it’s just that I lost my temper for a moment. I know I was wrong, Shopkeeper," Tian Peng hurriedly apologized, "I definitely won’t make the same mistake next time."
"Next time?"
"No next time, no next time!" Tian Peng hastily denied.
"Hmph." Chen Nuo hmphed, then asked again, "You could’ve just communicated with me telepathically to report the situation, why did you even come over?"
Tian Peng chuckled but knew that he wasn’t good with words and had already annoyed Chen Nuo. Not daring to speak carelessly for fear of more slip-ups, he reluctantly passed this daunting task to Sun Wukong.
"Master, we came down after hearing what Fairy Baihua said," Sun Wukong spoke up.
"Fairy Baihua?" Chen Nuo recalled the joke he had made with her earlier, "She told you guys, you believed it, and came to check it out?"
"How could that be, Master." Sun Wukong said, "I did think it through, knowing that something must have happened in-between. It’s just that you were too lazy to explain to Fairy Baihua, so you brushed her off with some excuse, right?"
"You’re quite clever," Chen Nuo laughed, Sun Wukong indeed had been with him for so many years, but only...
"Since you knew I was setting her up, why did you even come over?"
Sun Wukong also chuckled, "I was just curious about the kid you were fussing over, so I discussed it with Tian Peng and we decided to come over together to meet the kid."
"So, you’ve seen Xi?" Chen Nuo asked.
"Seen him, seen him, that kid is pretty fierce," Tian Peng took over the conversation, "I haven’t seen a kid that small and yet so fierce before, the last time I saw one was Nezha as a child."
"Fierce?" Chen Nuo thought back, since he had taken Xi in, he hadn’t really seen Xi get angry.
The kid had been both sweet and obedient, and Chen Nuo was quite skeptical of what Tian Peng was saying, "I didn’t notice."
"That must have been an act in front of you, Shopkeeper!" Tian Peng said, "As soon as we walked in, that kid started questioning us fiercely, even saying he’d show us what’s what."
"Really." Chen Nuo smiled, "When you descended, you didn’t look like that, right? One all brawny, the other all furry; the fact that she didn’t kick you out is already being polite."
Tian Peng felt a little wronged, "Shopkeeper Chen, you really don’t mince words. It’s not like I wanted to look like this, it’s just a requirement for the job."
"I’m just telling it like it is," Chen Nuo said nonchalantly, "Didn’t you come here to report to me about the shop opening? Tell me about how it went today."
Sun Wukong started speaking, "Before we even opened, people were already urging us to open the doors. Once we did, the flow of customers never stopped until we closed for the day. There were still many Immortal Officials who didn’t get a chance, I told them to come early tomorrow."
Chen Nuo nodded, "The ones in line, they were all Immortal Officials?"
"All Immortal Officials," Sun Wukong responded, "Even though I had posted a notice up there saying we had clear tea, fruit tea, and the like, the folks from Buddhism just observed from a distance. Up until today, none of them joined the queue."
"It’s acceptable, though," Chen Nuo said indifferently, "The shadow of the Buddha Jumps Over the Wall last time was too big. They only dare to glance from a distance and don’t dare to approach. It’s within reason. Moreover, it’s only the first day. There’s still a lot of time. Just let the people on Buddhism’s side observe for a bit longer."
"I bet they won’t last more than seven days," Sun Wukong laughed, "Maybe someone will come to ask tomorrow."
"It’s good if someone asks tomorrow, but don’t be too impatient then," Chen Nuo said, looking at Sun Wukong. Although this monkey hadn’t screwed up due to his temper, he still needed to be restrained occasionally.
"Master, rest assured. I’ll heed your teachings and definitely won’t mess things up because of my temper," Sun Wukong said.
The three of them chatted while filling orders for oil, and soon noon passed, and customers dwindled. Chen Nuo closed the shop door and instantly returned to the small courtyard.
He Xi was in the middle of cooking when she heard noises in the yard and immediately ran out of the kitchen. Seeing Chen Nuo had returned, she joyfully called out, "Chen, you’re back."
Chen Nuo smiled as he walked over to He Xi and patted her on the head, "How have you been at home alone? Have you been good?"
"Yes!" He Xi nodded, "I’ve been very good. I’ve finished copying all the books you asked me to, and you can check them later, Chen."
"So good," Chen Nuo smiled following He Xi’s words: "Well then, since you’ve finished, I’ll reward you. Later on, you can take a piece of candy from the box in the kitchen."
"That’s great, that’s great!" He Xi spun around joyfully a few times, then stopped and said to Chen Nuo, "Chen, two strange men came this morning, they said they were your disciples."
Sun Wukong and Tian Peng immediately reverted back to their true forms and laughed, "Kid, are those two strange men us?"
Seeing the true forms of Sun Wukong and Tian Peng, He Xi was frightened and hid in Chen Nuo’s embrace, "Chen, it’s those two, really scary."
Sun Wukong and Tian Peng looked at each other, "Kid, you weren’t like this in the morning, all high and mighty, not this delicate."
He Xi buried herself in Chen Nuo’s embrace, "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Hey, you!"
Tian Peng was about to step forward but was dodged by Chen Nuo holding He Xi, "That’s enough, why are you getting worked up over a kid!"
"But Shopkeeper, I..."
Tian Peng wanted to explain something but before he could finish, He Xi also followed Chen Nuo’s words, "That’s enough, you’re such a big person, why fuss over a little kid like me?"
Sun Wukong couldn’t help but laugh aloud.
Tian Peng, feeling wronged, pointed at He Xi, "Shopkeeper, look at her, does she look like a little kid at all?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"She’s doing it on purpose, you tell me, are you some demon, purposely pretending to be a kid to deceive our Shopkeeper?"
He Xi again dove into Chen Nuo’s embrace.
An eleven-year-old child, who is also so good-looking, is cute in everything she does, besides just acting a bit spoiled.
Chen Nuo could still indulge her, so he gave Tian Peng a dismissive look, stopping the words he wanted to say.
"Alright Xi, you go ahead to the kitchen and get a candy. I need to speak with your brothers for a moment," Chen Nuo said.
"Okay, I will," He Xi obediently nodded and ran off to the kitchen.
