Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 234 Ao Ling Requests Leave
"Thank you, Shopkeeper Chen!" The Two Deities had no choice but to thank him again, respectfully returning to their seats. The Kitchen God’s face was filled with emotion, "Did you also make this water?"
"Of course," Chen Nuo replied with a smile, nodding his head.
This was a creation of his own pondering, and at the beginning, he felt a great sense of achievement. So delighted was he that he ate three meals a day for several days, nearly bringing Wukong to tears with envy.
"Truly imaginative, Shopkeeper Chen. Not only are your culinary skills unparalleled, but you also have a unique artistic vision."
"To be able to create such a novel and delicious beverage, this Junior Deity is thoroughly impressed," praised the Food God without holding back.
In his professional opinion regarding gourmet food, discussing the taste alone, Shopkeeper Chen’s so-called Flat Peach Soda was bound to flourish within the Three Realms.
This soda differed greatly from common beverages like tea and alcohol; tea requires one to calm the mind for delicate appreciation, contemplating the bitter and the sweet, while alcohol calls for a spirited hustle of toasting and hearty conversation.
The Flat Peach Juice, however, was straightforward and refreshing, a thrilling drink that provided instant gratification and sheer enjoyment!
The Kitchen God rubbed his hands together, smiling ingratiatingly, "Shopkeeper Chen, since we’re not allowed to order more dishes, can we drink more Flat Peach Soda?"
The look in the Kitchen God’s eyes at that moment was brimming with two words: refill!
Chen Nuo chuckled and shook his head, "I’m sorry, but the rules for the Flat Peach Soda are the same as for the dishes. Although the price is only half that of a dish, you can still only order one cup per day."
The Food God was puzzled, "Half? But I just paid the price for a dish!"
He had been so eager that he didn’t ask and simply paid.
"Me too!" The Kitchen God nodded repeatedly, agreeing.
Chen Nuo spread his hands, unconcerned, "You can wait until you come again to consume it."
"Here, every diner has their own account. Any excess money will be stored inside, to be used next time, for convenience."
"The same applies to you two. You already set up your accounts the moment you paid for the first time," explained Chen Nuo roughly.
So that was it.
The Two Deities nodded in resignation, not entirely willing. In their eyes, this was no ordinary water but a Divine Object capable of promoting a breakthrough in cultivation.
Not only did it have the effects of a Flat Peach, but it was particularly good, and most importantly, a cup was sold for only half an Incense Power, an incredible bargain!!!
But since Shopkeeper Chen had spoken, they had no choice but to comply.
At the moment, Chen Nuo’s status in the hearts of the Two Deities soared, becoming almost on par with Haotian; they could only come again tomorrow.
Suddenly, the Food God remembered something, it seemed Shopkeeper Chen had important matters to discuss with Chef Wukong. It was probably best for them, the non-essential crowd, not to stay too long, especially since they had already eaten and drunk their fill.
He quickly signaled the Kitchen God with his eyes.
Getting the hint, the Kitchen God, with a jolly old face, slightly apologetic, said, "Shopkeeper Chen, it’s getting late; we won’t impose any longer."
Chen Nuo nodded and did not stop them, "You’re welcome to come often."
"Absolutely!" The Two Deities promised earnestly.
With Shopkeeper Chen’s culinary skills, they’d feel uncomfortable going even a day without his food, let alone their desire for the Flat Peach Juice.
How could they not come again?!
As the Two Deities were about to leave, Sun Wukong interjected, "Right, my monkey replica can only last for a day; I’ll need your help in the Imperial Kitchen tomorrow!"
"Ah?!" The Two Deities opened their mouths, slightly dumbfounded.
"Only one day?!!!"
Chef Wukong’s replica would be gone by tomorrow, which meant the two of them would have to take charge of the Imperial Kitchen. How could they possibly come over then?
The Food God and the Kitchen God were as dismayed as if at a funeral.
"Please, I’m counting on you," Sun Wukong smiled, cupping his hands together in a request.
The Two Deities heaved a sigh of relief, and the God of Cookery, with a helpless look on his face, stood up and said, "Great Immortal Wukong, you really must come back soon. Just the two of us can’t hold down the Imperial Kitchen."
After a Flat Peach Banquet, the taste of every immortal in the Heavenly Court was elevated, leaving their culinary skills insufficient by comparison; the immortals wouldn’t accept their dishes.
Although they also made efforts to study and learn Chef Wukong’s cooking skills, mastering the path of culinary arts wasn’t that simple.
They had made some progress, but to create a flavor that satisfied everyone still fell short; neither of them could live up to the name they held.
Hearing this, Sun Wukong chuckled and scratched his head, replying, "I’ll do my best, do my best!"
He wasn’t sure what his master wanted with him, so he didn’t dare to speak carelessly about returning early and wore an embarrassed expression.
At the time, without much thought, he had simply created a couple of clones to temporarily replace him but had forgotten how long they were supposed to last.
The Two Deities expressed their gratitude profusely before leaving reluctantly. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Once they were alone,
"Master, what do you need me for?" Wukong couldn’t contain his curiosity and asked.
Chen Nuo didn’t respond immediately but placed his hand on the table, tapping it intermittently, filling the room with a sudden quiet, broken only by the tap tap sound.
Both Sun Wukong and Ao Ling didn’t dare breathe too loudly, and Sun Wukong especially felt as if each tap struck right at his heart. Had he caused some trouble?
Filled with unease, Sun looked at Chen Nuo’s lofty face and ventured, "Master, is there something I did wrong?"
"You’re going to be the head chef for a Buddhist Dharma banquet," Chen Nuo said indifferently.
Surprised by the statement, Sun Wukong nodded, "Yes, but, Master, how did you know that?"
"Haotian has been here to dine; naturally, I would know."
"Haotian?" Wukong was puzzled.
"The one the masses refer to as the Jade Emperor."
Sun Wukong was surprised inwardly, not expecting that the Jade Emperor had also come to dine at his master’s restaurant.
But then again, that made sense as he himself had disclosed the news about Chaos Residence.
"Master, is there a problem with this Buddhist Dharma banquet?" Wukong inquired, "If Master wishes me not to go, I shall not."
"It’s not about forbidding you to go," Chen Nuo spoke softly, "just that there are some matters I need to explain."
Turning around, Chen Nuo began to walk toward the kitchen.
"Come with me," he beckoned.
Sun Wukong took steps to follow.
"Master, Master!" Suddenly, Ao Ling, who had been silent by the counter, spoke up.
Seeing Chen Nuo turn to look at her, Ao Ling spoke with cautious restraint, "Master, I wish, I would like to go back to the East Sea for a visit."
She had barely finished speaking before she quickly added, "It’s nothing serious, it’s just that my gemstones for paying for meals are almost gone, so I thought I’d go home and fetch just a tiny bit more."
Her words bore no falsehood; her reserves were nearly depleted, and those few gemstones left were her most precious ones. Thinking of what she had lost, Ao Ling’s heart bled.
She’d better get more from home as backup!
Ao Ling thought to herself, taking the opportunity of Wukong’s presence today.
Moreover, she sensed that Master and her senior brother Wukong were going to discuss important matters, and it’d be better for her to make herself scarce.
Chen Nuo, frowning slightly, did not stop her and after a moment’s consideration said, "Alright."
With a wave of his hand, a stack of Flat Peaches appeared in the air and floated toward Ao Ling.
"Take these," Chen Nuo said, his voice indifferent, yet as someone who had come from his Chaos Residence, she had to carry something worthwhile to make a statement.
