Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 185 Haotian Visits Chaos Residence
Haotian stood with his hands behind his back, peering at the mountains and rivers below, a surge of pride involuntarily rising in his heart—this was his domain!
Of course, despite the pleasant talk, Haotian’s mind was as clear as a mirror; he wasn’t there for inspection—he simply wanted to have a meal at Chaos Residence.
All day long, reviewing this and that, there seemed no end in sight. How exasperating!
Spotting an opportunity, the veteran flatterer, Gold Star Taibai, broke in with a sycophantic smile, "Your Majesty truly loves his people like his own children!"
Haotian did not pursue the matter any further, merely remarking faintly, "Let’s continue on our way, keep flying."
"Yes! Yes!"
Gold Star Taibai nodded continuously, not daring to delay.
He immediately made the white cloud speed up a bit more.
The cloud, under the control of Gold Star Taibai, carried the two of them.
After all, as the Emperor of Heaven, even if he couldn’t make a grand entrance in his secret disguise, he certainly couldn’t lower himself to flying like a common laborer!
That would be beneath his dignity!
"Reporting to the Jade Emperor, we have arrived at Mountain of Mind and Heart!" Gold Star Taibai reminded him.
Haotian, who had been gazing down at the earth before, suddenly came back to his senses with a sparkle in his eyes, "Well, don’t just stand there—let’s go down!"
This was, after all, what he had come for!
Once on the ground, Haotian took special care to straighten up the clothes he had prepared just for today.
"Remember, later, you’ll call me ’Old White,’ and you...," Haotian pondered, brow furrowed. Usually, he was referred to as the Jade Emperor, so perhaps...
"Taibai, just call me ’Jade Master,’" Haotian declared with a wave of his hand.
"Your Majesty! This must not be done, Your Majesty!" Gold Star Taibai bowed repeatedly, filled with trepidation.
"If I tell you to call me that, you will call me that!" Haotian replied impatiently with a wave of his hand.
His reason for this covert visit was not to deceive Shopkeeper Chen but to avoid carrying the air of the Jade Emperor with all its pomp—what if he unintentionally offended Shopkeeper Chen? That would be undesirable.
"Yes," Gold Star Taibai shrank his neck and meekly complied.
The two made their way through the forest, Haotian following the directions given by Sun Wukong, as well as those provided by the Jade Pool.
"At last."
Haotian looked at Chaos Residence in front of him, its decor filled with charm, even more elegant than what had been described by the Jade Pool.
Haotian nodded in approval; such a distinctive building could be an interesting addition to the Heavenly Court after his return.
Taibai looked up at the tall building’s signboard.
Muttered to himself, "Chaos Residence."
Surprise flickered in his eyes. Wasn’t this the place the Goddess mentioned yesterday?
So this was the purpose of the Emperor’s visit.
"Keep your eyes open later, and don’t offend the proprietor," Haotian instructed Taibai in a solemn voice.
"Yes!" Taibai nodded in agreement.
Though he didn’t know the exact reason, if it was the Jade Emperor who spoke, he would follow; this also explained why he had become the foremost Loyal Official.
"This Shopkeeper Chen of Chaos Residence possesses much higher cultivation than I," Haotian added, advancing towards the entrance of Chaos Residence.
Much higher than His Majesty?!
Gold Star Taibai’s eyes widened, his mind reeling with shock.
What kind of extraordinary power could the Emperor be seeking?
Seeing Haotian heading further away, Gold Star Taibai hurriedly followed suit, also etching the Emperor’s words deep into his mind.
Haotian cautiously pushed the door, which wasn’t locked, and stepped inside.
Someone’s arrived?
Chen Nuo, who was idling his time away at the counter, was slightly surprised to see the visitors.
Then seeing Gold Star Taibai following behind, he nodded to himself: two of them.
"What would the two of you like to have?" Chen Nuo asked with a slight smile.
Looking at Chen Nuo’s handsome poise behind the counter, and combining it with the Jade Pool’s description, Haotian knew in an instant who it was.
"I’ve seen Shopkeeper Chen," said Haotian with due respect.
Having heard the cautionary tale from Jade Pool, Haotian didn’t foolishly attempt to detect Chen Nuo’s cultivation level with his mana. Anyway, fighting at the Jade Pool, to him, was like child’s play, so even giving it a try was meaningless.
He might even get a beating from Shopkeeper Chen if he wasn’t in a good mood, which would be a loss not worth the risk.
"I’ve seen Shopkeeper Chen!" Gold Star Taibai hurriedly bent his body upon seeing this. If the setting had been appropriate, he might have even knelt in worship, for this was a person even his Majesty had to look up to!
Chen Nuo was somewhat surprised, being addressed directly as Shopkeeper Chen. Did he know him?
"Who are you?"
"This is Jade Master, and I’m Jade Master’s servant, Old White," Gold Star Taibai said, repeating what Haotian had instructed him to say.
Chen Nuo frowned: "Jade Master."
He had never heard of him before, but with his unbeatable strength, he could easily discern the cultivation levels of the two men.
A smile crept onto his lips—one of them was even a late-stage Quasi-Saint. Not bad.
Slap!
No sooner had Taibai finished speaking that he had already received a hit from Haotian.
Haotian gave Gold Star Taibai a covert stern look; what kind of introduction was that, calling someone "Jade Master."
Moreover, in front of someone like Shopkeeper Chen—far too presumptuous. It was already a show of good temper that he wasn’t sent away immediately.
Several years’ salary deducted, Haotian thought to himself darkly.
Jade Master, Old White.
Chen Nuo became interested and sized up the two men. This Jade whatever, though dressed ordinarily, naturally exuded an air of nobility, similar to Jade Pool.
This was something that could only form over many years.
As for this white-bearded old man, actually called "Old White," and then combining that with his cultivation level...
Chen Nuo nodded to himself; he seemed to know who they were.
"Did Jade Pool tell you about this place?" Chen Nuo asked casually.
Hearing this, Haotian was taken aback internally. It was no wonder Shopkeeper Chen was so discerning—he didn’t miss a thing right from the start.
However, there was no embarrassment for Haotian; he wasn’t there to hide his identity from Chen Nuo but to avoid making too much of a fuss, not wanting to put on any airs as the Jade Emperor.
"Shopkeeper Chen really has eyes like a torch."
Haotian said with a smile, "Indeed, but actually, the first I heard of your existence was from your apprentice, Sun Wukong, so I came here especially to see for myself."
"Is that so." Chen Nuo responded nonchalantly, feeling somewhat surprised inwardly.
He hadn’t expected Haotian, who had been the Jade Emperor for such a long time, to be so respectful upon meeting him. Interesting.
"Master! What’s going on?"
A curious voice suddenly came from the back kitchen.
Ao Ling was practicing her basic sword skills, but it was bustling outside.
Chen Nuo replied to her: "It’s nothing, keep practicing."
Basic sword skills are crucial for learning culinary arts and must be practiced diligently.
"What’s all the fuss..." Ao Ling muttered after hearing Chen Nuo’s response, but she continued chopping without pausing.
"May I ask what brings the two of you here?" Since Haotian was so forthcoming, Chen Nuo didn’t put on airs.
Excitement was evident on Haotian’s face: "Naturally, to sample Shopkeeper Chen’s peerless culinary skills."
"I, I have longed for this for ages!"
Haotian blurted out.
He had only known about Chaos Residence for a few days, but he wasn’t embarrassed in the slightest—after all, a day apart feels like three seasons have passed!
Quite the connoisseur, Chen Nuo raised an eyebrow.
He pushed the menu towards Haotian.
Taking it in both hands, Haotian began to look it over.
Almost instantly, he was captivated by the exquisite pictures on the menu. He swore it was the first time he knew that the presentation of food could be so enticing.
He couldn’t help but swallow his saliva; every dish appeared to be so delicious, making it too hard to choose!
Seeing Haotian holding the menu without any follow-up actions, Gold Star Taibai wondered what His Majesty was looking at.
To be so engrossed!
