Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 174 The Confused Haotian
Haotian had no doubt about what Jade Pool had said, because there was simply no need to deceive him, it seemed it was indeed time to pay a visit in person.
Haotian thought to himself.
After all, he was Sun Wukong’s master, and Sun Wukong was a person fated to face tribulations, this matter was of great significance.
"Unforeseen changes have occurred in the Journey to the West, and it is uncertain whether they are a blessing or a curse," Wu Tian said sullenly.
Jade Pool, however, was unconcerned.
"What does it matter? In any case, it should be Buddhism that’s worried," Jade Pool said.
Haotian nodded and didn’t think any further.
That’s true, since that monkey became a disciple of Chaos Residence, it seems none of Buddhism’s schemes have succeeded.
He even indirectly scammed Tathagata; it was simply too satisfying.
Anyway, as long as he did not proactively provoke Sun Wukong, presumably this mysterious Shopkeeper Chen would not be hostile toward Heavenly Court.
The look of worry on Haotian’s face dissipated, and he even felt a bit of joy, as long as Buddhism was unhappy, he was happy.
When he paid the visit, he would definitely bring sufficient sincerity, striving to get Shopkeeper Chen on his side.
He also had to inform Shopkeeper Chen in advance about Buddhism’s next plot against Sun Wukong.
"This trip, I even got a treasure!" Jade Pool, seeing Haotian remaining silent, took out something else.
"Top Tier Fortune Sticks?"
Haotian, upon seeing what was in Jade Pool’s hand, was puzzled. What is this thing, a treasure?
He couldn’t see how.
"This is the Crown Membership Card from Chaos Residence! You can dine for free!" Jade Pool flourished the card in her hand several times, showing off.
Free?!
Haotian’s breath hitched, staring intently at the card in front of him.
"How about that? Not bad, right?" Jade Pool’s mouth curved upward, immensely proud.
Haotian reined in the envy in his eyes and said indifferently, "Is it just a freebie? As the ruler of Heavenly Court, am I short of money for a meal?"
"Hmm, you’re not short of money."
"Anyway, the standard for my meal is one nine-thousand-year Flat Peach per meal, so you figure it out," Jade Pool said, sweeping her indifferent eyes over Haotian’s bold demeanor, chuckling.
Nine-thousand-year Flat Peaches? That’s terrifying, isn’t it?
Did Shopkeeper Chen really purchase this just for eating?
Haotian was shocked, and soon his face filled with a smile, looking straight at the Top Tier Fortune Stick, "Can I use this for a bit?"
"No way!" Jade Pool’s phoenix eyes narrowed, her attitude resolute, as she carefully pocketed the card, giving Haotian no chance.
"This card signifies my status as the holder of the Crown Membership."
"Even if you used my card, it would be useless; Shopkeeper Chen definitely wouldn’t recognize it," Jade Pool said.
That made sense, and Haotian withdrew his gaze, slightly regretful.
"Then, could you give me some more nine-thousand-year Flat Peaches?" Haotian quickly shifted his attention to the peaches.
After all, the Flat Peaches belonged to Jade Pool, and she personally chose where they were stored.
"What use would they be to you?" Jade Pool said, spreading her hands.
"Before I left, I asked Shopkeeper Chen about the payment standards, it varies from person to person; it could be anything," Jade Pool continued.
Interest piqued, Jade Pool spoke with implied meaning, "Shopkeeper Chen said, it could be Magical Treasures, it could be gold and silver, it might be Mana, and it could even be cultivated abilities!"
She had never before seen such a novel way of charging.
How strange, Haotian thought upon hearing Jade Pool’s account, completely astonished. He had not expected Shopkeeper Chen to be so unconventional.
If luck was on one’s side, the expense might be very little, but with bad luck, a single meal could be a major loss.
Like cultivated abilities, which are the foundation of their very existence. If one’s cultivation realm dropped, even sitting on this throne wouldn’t inspire confidence.
"You might as well give me a few Flat Peaches; it’s better to be safe than sorry," Haotian negotiated.
Since we don’t know what Shopkeeper Chen’s charges are, we’d better prepare well, as it’s better to be safe than sorry. Wouldn’t we look foolish if his rates were the same as the Jade Pool’s?
"Alright," said Jade Pool, agreeing readily, though she lowered her head so her expression couldn’t be seen clearly.
"What’s wrong?" Seeing that Jade Pool hadn’t made a move, Haotian couldn’t help but feel puzzled.
He was about to reach out and shake her when suddenly Jade Pool lifted her head, her eyes and brows tinged with a faint sorrow.
Seeing this, Haotian’s heart tightened, and he asked with concern, "Jade Pool, what’s wrong with you?"
"Haotian, you’re not going to take this Flat Peach for nothing, are you?" Her voice carried a few more notes of wistfulness.
"How could I!"
How did she know what he was secretly thinking? Haotian almost blurted out without thinking.
But looking at Jade Pool’s worried face, Haotian forcibly held back, inexplicably feeling a softness in his heart.
"Why would you think that?" Haotian corrected himself.
Jade Pool blinked gently and said, "But, this is a nine-thousand-year-old Flat Peach."
"What’s the big deal about that!" Haotian slapped his chest, speaking with righteousness, "As the Jade Emperor, how could I take advantage of such a thing? Would I still be considered an Immortal then?"
Haotian swore solemnly.
Normally, he would certainly take whatever advantage he could, but today, for some reason, he couldn’t bear to see Jade Pool the slightest bit upset.
"Then what will you give me in compensation?" Jade Pool asked softly.
Haotian frowned slightly, somewhat troubled. After pondering for a moment, he pulled out a Magical Treasure, one of those compensated to him by Tathagata.
"How about this as compensation?"
Jade Pool glanced at the item in Haotian’s hand; her delicate face still wore a vulnerable look as she asked, "Is this all you have?"
Seeing her expression, Wu Tian felt even more reluctant, a flash of pain crossing his face as he pulled out two more treasures, handing over everything Tathagata had given him.
"Look, are all of these together acceptable?" Wu Tian presented all three Magical Treasures at once.
Jade Pool bowed her head, stubborn for a moment, then spoke in a gentle whisper, "Alright then."
Differently from her outward appearance, Jade Pool’s heart was delighted. The Divine Skill of Thousand Faces Intent truly was effective; she hadn’t expected that even Haotian would fall for it.
Jade Pool couldn’t help feeling a multitude of emotions as she withdrew from the state of her Divine Skill.
Haotian’s pupils constricted; he felt as if Jade Pool had suddenly reverted back to her usual self.
Having worked with Jade Pool for many Great Meetings, he was all too familiar with her character.
Without the constraints of Divine Skills, Haotian also realized what he had just done, a strong sense of regret washing over him. After all, these were the Magical Treasures he had not easily obtained from Tathagata!
How could he have parted with them so easily?
Haotian was puzzled, for recalling his recent behavior, he also noticed something off.
The actions he had just taken seemed involuntary, yet his Mind and Spirit were led to do precisely what Jade Pool wanted him to do – it was indeed too strange!
Regaining his senses, he met Jade Pool’s triumphant smile head on.
"Jade Pool, you!" The moment Haotian realized something was amiss and saw her look, he knew he’d been played!
"Hahaha!"
Jade Pool couldn’t hold back her laughter, burst into laughter, showing none of the demeanor expected of the Queen Mother.
"What exactly did you do just now?" Haotian couldn’t help but ask out loud, completely baffled by how he had fallen into her trap so inexplicably.
After laughing enough, Jade Pool boasted, "This is my newly acquired Divine Skill. Pretty good, isn’t it?"
"Divine Skill? How did you acquire it?" Upon hearing this, Haotian looked shocked.
Jade Pool smiled slightly; "I got it by dining at Chaos Residence."
By dining?
Haotian was shocked inwardly; when had Chaos Residence become associated with Divine Skills?
He was somewhat at a loss. After all, how would a normal person even think of such a thing?
