Chapter 173: Chapter 173 Shocking Haotian

According to Sun Wukong, the day arrived when he was to become an apprentice at the Mountain of Mind and Heart.

Disappeared for ten years, that is to say, he stayed on Mount Fangcun for a full ten years, and Buddhism also sent Six Ears into the Three Star Cave for ten years.

Yet, such a long time passed without Patriarch Bodhi noticing the existence of Chaos Residence, which suggests the unfathomable strength of Shopkeeper Chen.

"If I were to go, how would I find Chaos Residence?" Maitreya asked again.

If one didn’t know the way, it’s likely that they’d never find it no matter how hard they tried, and Sun Wukong made this clear as well.

"It’s that simple?" Upon hearing Sun Wukong’s words, Maitreya looked baffled. Was Chaos Residence just sitting out in the open in the middle of Mount Fangcun?

"It’s not hidden somewhere out of sight?"

Hearing this, Sun Wukong rolled his eyes: "My master runs a restaurant; if it were hidden in the dark, who do you expect would come?"

Maitreya’s mouth twitched, what a piece of work!

Just because a store is located on a mountain, does it mean it’s in plain sight? Who has ever heard of such a way to run a restaurant?

But then...

Maitreya’s brow furrowed. Since it was out in the open, why hadn’t Patriarch Bodhi and Tathagata discovered it?

But how could he know that Buddhism didn’t really pay much attention to Mount Fangcun, especially with Patriarch Bodhi there?

In the Three Realms, there was no conception of the idea that the most dangerous places could be the safest.

This Mount Fangcun hadn’t even been searched; from the outside, there was a shielding Formation, preventing one from looking down upon Chaos Residence from a high point. The place looked no different from any other ordinary mountainside with trees.

Having learned what he wanted to know, Maitreya was entirely eager to go and experience the cuisine of Chaos Residence for himself.

But on second thought, he suppressed the urge, realizing that it would still be somewhat troublesome to enter and leave Spirit Mountain at will.

If he went and ate at Chaos Residence just once and it was as delicious as Sun Wukong claimed, wouldn’t he become addicted?

How then would he be able to enjoy the Dharma feast at Buddhism?

After mulling it over several times, Maitreya decided to wait until after the Buddhism Dharma feast before going.

In the great hall, Haotian was reviewing memorials, the brush dancing across the paper, though he seemed somewhat distracted.

The Heavenly Court oversees all under heaven, and such tedious tasks seem endless.

It should be about time, right? Haotian thought to himself.

Gazing at the still towering piles of memorials on both sides of the desk, Haotian sighed, feeling a headache coming on, put down his brush, and looked at the white-bearded old man standing by his side. Haotian spoke, "Taibai, how long have I been reviewing these memorials?

Gold Star Taibai pondered briefly before replying, "To answer Your Majesty, it has been nearly two hours."

Not yet two hours?

Haotian frowned and remained silent.

Seeing this, Gold Star Taibai, who was exceedingly good at reading expressions and mood, hastily said with a smile, "To answer Your Majesty, this humble servant made a mistake. It has actually been two hours and a bit more than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. Please punish me, Your Majesty."

He then promptly bowed deeply to accept the blame.

That’s more like it.

Haotian’s frown relaxed, he nodded in approval, showing a satisfied expression. Truly worthy of his most trusted Taibai.

He understands me!

Rinsing his brush in the clear water and flicking it carelessly onto the desk, he stood up, adjusting his dragon robe.

Haotian waved his hand grandly, "Rise, appointed one, walk with me to scold the Imperial Kitchen."

The position of Jade Emperor, though very prestigious, is not without its day-to-day busyness, and after so long, it was time to eat a meal in the Imperial Kitchen first and foremost. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Ever since the Flat Peach Banquet, Sun Wukong’s cuisine had become a daily necessity for him.

Haotian was about to stride out of the hall with the majesty of a dragon and the fierceness of a tiger, but was blocked by a figure. Upon closer inspection, the person was from Jade Pool.

"What brings you here?" Haotian asked coldly.

Jade Pool did not respond to the question but instead asked with a slight smile, "Haotian, guess where I just went?"

Following behind Haotian, Gold Star Taibai’s body trembled unconsciously, crying out his name. This was a great show of disrespect to the Jade Emperor!

In the past, the empress always referred to Your Majesty, didn’t she? Why has she changed her address today?

Gold Star Taibai felt somewhat uneasy; he had this feeling he was about to be silenced.

As for the mention of the Jade Pool, Haotian didn’t mind it much. The Jade Pool had always called him that in private, and he was used to it.

Gold Star Taibai was also his most loyal subordinate, and it was no harm for him to hear it.

The reason for his trust was because he never talked too much.

"Did you perhaps visit the Imperial Kitchen?" Haotian asked subconsciously. He hadn’t had his meal, so that was the first thing he thought of.

"No." Jade Pool shook her head with a trace of smugness, "I went to the Chaos Residence instead."

Chaos Residence?

Surprise flashed in Haotian’s eyes. Wasn’t this the place Sun Wukong’s master lived in, as he had mentioned?

"When did you go?!" Haotian asked with an urgent tone.

"Just moments ago!" Jade Pool replied with a smile, a stark contrast to her usual dignified and gracious demeanor.

Seeing this made Gold Star Taibai even more nervous; he didn’t dare lift his eyes too much, fearing he might offend Jade Pool.

What was with the empress today, to be so lively?

"Why didn’t you take me with you?!" Haotian exclaimed, too agitated to remember to refer to himself as ’I’.

Chaos Residence!

That was the place of unparalleled delicacies according to the monkey. Jade Pool was too hateful, only thinking of herself!

Haotian was very angry.

Jade Pool rolled her eyes, carelessly saying, "You’re such a busybody, what’s the use of calling you?"

Haotian opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say.

Because Jade Pool was absolutely right; there was still a huge pile of memorials on his desk that he hadn’t finished reviewing!

After a pause, Wu Tian asked eagerly, "Jade Pool, tell me, what do you really think of the Chaos Residence?"

"It’s one of a kind." Jade Pool said dreamily, using just four words to describe it.

"Taibai, you may leave now." Seeing that the conversation had touched on a sensitive topic, Haotian gestured dismissively.

"Yes, this humble official takes his leave!" Gold Star Taibai breathed a sigh of relief, nodding repeatedly, and scurried away without looking back, though with a hint of curiosity in his heart.

What exactly was the Chaos Residence that the empress and the emperor spoke of, to cause such excitement in His Majesty!

"Jade Pool, hurry and tell me in detail." Wu Tian chuckled, the imperial majesty dissipating.

This somewhat ingratiating posture made Jade Pool feel as if it were a scene from the past.

In the past, when she gained some benefits from the Ancestor of Taoism, Haotian would also follow her around, eagerly wanting to be involved.

With a hint of complacency in her eyes, Jade Pool laughed lightly, "The Chaos Residence is exactly as Sun Wukong described; the food is sublime."

"Shopkeeper Chen’s culinary skill is unmatched in the Three Realms, and his power is unfathomable."

"Unfathomable, how so?" Compared to whether it was delicious or not, Wu Tian was more concerned about this so-called Shopkeeper Chen’s power, as it was better to understand the depths of such a mysterious figure.

Mentioning this, Jade Pool’s face grew solemn, and after a moment of thought, she said, "I feel that with my power, if I were to be enemies with Shopkeeper Chen, I would be subdued in an instant."

"Are you sure?!" Haotian’s face showed astonishment as he blurted out.

"Certain, very real."

Haotian, mouth agape, was somewhat at a loss. His power, although greater than Jade Pool’s, was not significantly more so.

If Jade Pool could be defeated in an instant, even if he confronted Shopkeeper Chen, he wouldn’t fare much better; at best, he might only last a second longer before being subdued.

Aren’t the supremely powerful ones between heaven and earth only the Ancestor of Taoism and the Six Saints? How could there be such a terrifying existence?
