Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 127 Chang’e
Although they got their hands on the Flat Peaches, the ones that ripen every nine thousand years, why does it feel like they were the ones at a loss?
Looking around, an Immortal tiptoed up to another who was heartily enjoying his meal.
Familiar with the routine, he picked up an extra pair of chopsticks lying around, ready to reach into the dish.
He was eager to taste what was so exaggeratedly delicious!
"Smack!"
Before he could even touch the food, his hand was smacked away, caught in the act.
With a fierce glare casting upon him, the Immortal who almost snatched a bite chuckled awkwardly, saying, "Fellow Daoist, may I have a taste too?"
"Nope, none left, not enough to go around," replied the other Immortal coldly, and then immediately immersed himself back into the feast.
A few Immortals, left with only Flat Peaches to eat, were looking at each other, sticking out awkwardly and embarrassingly compared to the rest of the grand hall.
Although as Immortals, their desires for food were supposed to be quite subdued, they still couldn’t resist the collective temptations that surrounded them.
Even the seated Jade Emperor and Queen Mother couldn’t stop themselves — which goes to show just how outstanding the dishes’ flavors must be.
This was careless!
Watching Maitreya Buddha gorge himself, some grew restless inside, tempted to sneak a few bites. After all, with ten tables full of dishes, even thinking about finishing them all would be difficult...!
Before the thoughts of the other Immortals could be completed, they saw Maitreya Buddha, like a bottomless abyss, finish off yet another plate.
And then, as if nothing happened, he picked up another dish.
"..."
Resigned, a few could only return to their seats and meditate with their eyes closed.
It was time for the dance performance prepared by the Heavenly Court. Adorned in white clothing, as if having ascended into immortality, led by a group of palace maidens, one woman made her way gracefully forward.
With brows drawn like a painting, a spot of rouge on her lips, and simple yet elegant makeup that couldn’t hide her stunning beauty.
Chang’e, widely known as the most beautiful woman in the Three Realms and the face of Heavenly Court’s music and dance. She was invited to perform for every major event.
Her dance captivated all, and her fame was well-deserved.
Chang’e, along with the palace maidens, arrived at the center of the Jade Pool area, and gracefully bowed to the main seats. But the guests at the Jade Pool were too busy scrambling for food.
"Don’t grab that one, I wanted to eat that!" Watching Jade Pool wolfing down one dish after another, Haotian’s face grew anxious as he whispered his protest.
"Who’s eating my braised pig trotter?" Jade Pool shot back ferociously, her chopsticks never resting.
The two of them quietly fought over the dishes, completely oblivious to what was happening around them.
Chang’e: ...
"Let’s begin," Chang’e said, turning her body slightly. Her voice was clear and touching as she instructed the following palace maidens.
Getting into position, some of the palace maidens played classical instruments while others took positions for the dance.
Gathering around Chang’e, who seemed to hold all of the world’s beauty within her.
Raising her wrists and lowering her gaze, she twisted with the tune, her hair like ink, her long sleeves fluttering. Ethereal and graceful, she took delicate, dreamlike steps, truly the epitome of elegance.
With twirling sleeves, graceful yet powerful, music rang crisply in ears, like flowing water and drifting clouds, as splendid as a dragon or a phoenix in flight, truly the pinnacle of dance and beauty.
A faint smile curled the corners of Chang’e’s light lips, very pleased with her performance.
Listening to the faint sounds around her, even the usually stoic Chang’e couldn’t help but feel a bit proud. Surely the Immortals were captivated by her dance, discussing their admiration, she thought.
But as she looked closely, wanting to enjoy the expressions of these Immortals, Chang’e was completely dumbfounded the next moment, standing there in shock.
What admiration? It was clearly the clinking of bowls and chopsticks!
The only intelligible human voice was praising how delicious the meal was.
"Another bowl of rice, please!" Tian Peng shouted to a serving Immortal Attendant. His eyes briefly showed surprise upon seeing Chang’e standing in the center, and his heart involuntarily filled with infatuation, growing more intense by the moment.
However, another Immortal Attendant brought up a new dish, its steaming aroma wafting into the nostrils.
Then...
"Hurry up with the meal, who can be filled with just this much!" Tian Peng instantly pulled back his mind and spirit, turned his head away without paying further attention, and bellowed at the Immortal Attendant again.
Tian Peng even felt a bit baffled, as he had never felt this way about Chang’e before.
Shaking his head, Tian Peng stopped letting his thoughts run wild. If it’s come to be, then so be it, as long as it doesn’t interfere with his eating, that’s all that mattered.
After all, wasn’t this a perfect substitute for Chaos Residence? Why not eat one’s fill?
Women?
Hmph, they only impact the speed of my eating!
Chang’e trembled slightly with rage. Clearly before the Flat Peach Banquet was held, the Heavenly Court had repeatedly requested her to perform, treating her with the utmost seriousness.
That’s why she had meticulously choreographed this dance, and now, this? What a joke!
Chang’e’s face turned somewhat green, and she stood awkwardly among the group of Palace Maids, unsure whether to stay or leave.
Then, one clever Immortal Attendant stepped forward respectfully and said, "Fairy Chang’e, your seat has been prepared. Please follow this servant."
Someone had offered her a way out, and Chang’e nodded her thanks, smoothly responding, "Thank you very much."
The Palace Maids withdrew, and Chang’e was led to a seat among a gathering of Female Immortals.
Looking at the dishes before her, Chang’e couldn’t help but feel her temper rising. The title of the most beautiful woman in the Three Realms didn’t matter much to her.
In her eyes, only the Palace Master deserved the name of the most beautiful woman in the Three Realms.
However, the Palace Master lived a secluded life, and although she wasn’t well-known in the Three Realms, Chang’e was confident in her own charm.
She knew there surely must be existences in the Three Realms whose allure surpassed hers, such as the Palace Master, and many well-known Female Immortals wouldn’t lose to her.
Yet, she had never imagined that what would defeat her would be a meal!
Wasn’t this too insulting?
She, Chang’e, was even inferior to food?
Chang’e’s originally icy and jade-like fair face now bloomed with a blush, both from anger and embarrassment.
Looking up at the Female Immortals beside her, she recognized quite a few powerful beings, such as Lord Dou Mu and the Three Xiao Goddesses.
Especially Lord Dou Mu and the Three Xiao Goddesses, they were as powerful as the Palace Master in terms of cultivation.
Yet now, they too were enjoying the delicious food, the bliss on their faces indescribable. Could there really be some sort of charm to it?
Chang’e was puzzled and wouldn’t rest until she figured it out!
With reluctance in her heart, Chang’e picked up her chopsticks unwillingly, scrutinizing the dishes over and over but failing to find any fault.
After pondering for a moment, she chose what she thought to be the worst tasting dish, closed her eyes, and delicately placed the food into her cherry lips.
She hadn’t even chewed carefully when the flavor surged forth, stimulating her soul.
My heavens, this was way too delicious!
Chang’e struggled to suppress the cry of amazement that threatened to escape, her eyes wide with shock, yet her teeth continued to unconsciously nibble away.
She couldn’t bear to stop.
A doubt lingered in her heart. She had clearly chosen what looked like a greasy meat dish, but why was it still so tantalizingly delicious?
The meat was fatty but not greasy, astonishingly suitable for someone like her who was accustomed to a light diet, and it even had a hint of smoothness.
The luxurious fragrance between her lips and teeth was indescribably delightful, making her feel somewhat elated.
In an instant, Chang’e’s anger dissipated, and she finally understood why all these Immortals behaved in such a manner.
It wasn’t her fault at all; the food was simply too scrumptious!
