Journey to the West: Starting by taking Sun Wukong as my disciple!-Chapter 126: Is it really that delicious?
Jade Pool watched as the dish that had become her second obsession was tasted first by Haotian, and her mindset completely collapsed.
Haotian, oh Haotian, you’ve become skilled!
I’ll give you face today, but tomorrow, let you reminisce about the care of your childhood, give you a dignified way to die.
Jade Pool concealed her aura, making it imperceptible to others.
Relishing in the braised pork, Haotian inexplicably felt a chill down his spine and instinctively looked towards Jade Pool but detected nothing unusual.
Strange.
Muttering to himself, Haotian then focused again on annihilating the braised pork.
"Slow down, slow down!"
"Remember, don’t let your hand tremble, this is the final moment!"
"To persevere is to triumph!"
While the Queen Mother had already devoured a plate of braised trotters, the second Flat Peach for the eight immortals was just reaching its final cut.
The immortals held their breaths, a thin layer of sweat forming on their foreheads, eyes glued to the task, some even channeling mana into their eyes, fearful of missing any detail.
The immortal wielding the knife felt his pressure doubled, palms drenched in sweat, arms trembling ever so slightly.
With one final cut, his heart pounding uncontrollably, he couldn’t resist applying more force.
Crack!
The Flat Peach was completely sliced, but the faces of the crowd instantly changed.
The last two quarters of the Flat Peach that were cut had a slightly skewed end.
All eyes rested on the piece of peach that was a hair too large.
"Listen up, in terms of age, I should be a few years senior to you all, so this Flat Peach should be mine, that’s not too much to ask, right?"
One of the immortals said with a chuckle, conveying the earnestness of an elder.
"You better cut the crap here!" another immortal retorted indignantly.
"What’s the use of seniority if you have no strength? All seniority without might is nothing but empty talk. As a mid-stage Daluo Golden Immortal, or even a peak early-stage Daluo Golden Immortal, I should be the undeniable first, right?"
"So, this slightly larger Flat Peach should be mine!" the immortal declared as if it was obvious, his hand reaching for the larger peach piece. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"How dare you!"
"Scoundrel!"
"You dare do such a thing, villain!"
The other immortals glared furiously, promptly knocking away the greedy hand.
"As the saying goes, ’Magical Treasures belong to those who have virtue.’ Speaking of virtue, I’ve been kind to others for millions of years, never engaging in strife. This larger slice of Flat Peach should be mine."
"Nonsense, I think we should consider looks!"
The eight immortals argued like fishwives, none conceding to the other. There was no helping it; this was a nine-thousand-year Flat Peach.
Even such a tiny piece of peach flesh could greatly benefit their cultivation.
The debate carried on endlessly.
Many immortals throughout the grand hall who had finished digesting the medicinal power noticed the scene unfolding before them, and from the conversation, they gathered what was happening.
Those who only received three-thousand or six-thousand-year Flat Peaches, or even those who got none, couldn’t help but feel envious, wishing they had seen it earlier.
Three nine-thousand-year Flat Peaches, just given away like that.
Truly worthy of Buddhism.
With the prosperity of the Heavenly Way, the confidence is strong indeed; they only requested ordinary dishes, such good value.
But for those who missed the chance, they could only privately lament their misfortune.
If it had been them, they reckoned the scramble would have been even more frantic.
Is it really worth it?
Watching the immortals who looked almost ready to curse in their scuffle, the immortal who wielded the knife had a face full of black lines. Taking advantage of the moment when everyone was distracted, he stealthily sliced off a small piece and evened it out with the ones that were lacking. Two Flat Peaches, eight slices, perfect!
Seeing this, several immortals showed satisfied expressions, tacitly forgetting the previous displeasure, with not a single one bringing it up again.
They were beaming with joy, as if they had just encountered long-lost relatives.
"You guys go first."
"No, you first."
The Jade Pool high above wore an expression that was at a loss for words, almost wishing to blast those immortals straight out of there. A disgrace to be seen—were these the celestial beings of the Heavenly Court?
Time for a change!
The immortal wielding the knife was preparing to stow away his Spiritual Blade.
"Hold on!" one quick-eyed and nimble-handed immortal made a gesture as if to say ’stop’ by extending his five fingers.
"Fellow Daoist, may I clean the peach juice off your knife for you?" the immortal asked, swallowing his saliva, hardly able to wait to speak up.
Right! How come they didn’t think of that?
The eyes of the few other immortals holding peaches and ready to eat them lit up; every single part of a Flat Peach was a treasure, not to be wasted!
"Fellow Daoist, I have ten thousand Spirit Stones here, may I have a lick?"
"Don’t listen to him, fellow Daoist. I’ll offer a Golden Immortal-grade Spiritual Treasure!"
While the immortals were frenzied in their scramble for the Flat Peaches, Maitreya Buddha was eating in utmost bliss, surrounded by ten tables arranged in a circle, displaying extraordinary strength.
The immortal attendants, ready to serve dishes, were utterly dumbfounded, holding the dishes without knowing what to do—should they serve those immortals, or just place them on the tables?
How did all the tables end up with Maitreya Buddha?
Upon seeing the attendants, Maitreya Buddha was exceptionally affable. Wiping his mouth clean, he pointed and cheerfully said, "Just place them here."
The lead immortal attendant gaped at the tables gathered around Maitreya Buddha, wondering if that was really how they were to be arranged?
Such a haphazard arrangement was against protocol. He glanced uneasily at the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother seated above, but they were busy eating—who would pay attention to such trivialities?
"Hurry up with the dishes!" Maitreya Buddha was already impatient, barely stopping short of banging on the bowl.
Ten tables’ worth of dishes was nowhere near enough. Didn’t they see his size? Were they underestimating someone?
With no other choice, the attendants reluctantly set up another ten tables.
"Hey, look," Tian Peng, as if seeing something intriguing, pointed towards Maitreya Buddha and called out to Yang Jian and Nezha.
"Maitreya Buddha can really eat," Nezha exclaimed quietly.
The amount he ate was almost matching Nezha’s body weight, wasn’t it?
"It must be some sort of innate Divine Skill," suggested Yang Jian, observing keenly. That big belly must be extraordinary.
Tian Peng slapped the table, envy in his eyes, "If I had that many Flat Peaches, I would definitely make the exchange too!"
What good are Flat Peaches when you can have delicious food?
Although the quality of Mr. Monkey’s cooking clearly lagged behind Shopkeeper Chen’s, it certainly had enough flavor.
As for Flat Peaches, wouldn’t he rather enjoy the array of beverages at Chaos Residence?
The peculiar behavior of Maitreya Buddha shocked all the immortals present. A Buddha eating meat, and what’s more, exchanging Flat Peaches for food?
All who had just refined the power of the Flat Peaches and hadn’t had a chance to eat yet glanced down at their portion. Could it truly be that delicious?
They had eaten it before, but...
Some perceptive immortals noticed that the dishes, judging from their appearance alone, were far superior to previous ones despite the long interval, and they still remembered.
With a bit of curiosity, and with an experimental mindset, all the immortals who hadn’t tried the dishes began to eat.
"Mmm, delicious!"
"I’ve never tasted anything this delightful!"
The immortals were instantly captivated, losing themselves in enthusiasm. In no time, praise was heard nonstop, and each immortal started to eat voraciously.
Their faces shone with grease, like hungry ghosts reborn. Amidst the toasting and merry-making, the immortals dividing the Flat Peaches were somewhat taken aback.
