Isekaied Into An Eroge, Time To Have Fun!-Chapter 52: Early Studies
There were a few different things that took immediate precedence, at least in my mind; in order they were Alchemy then the history of Mythia followed by any and all magical related things, which included some spell casting tips as well as Enchanting.
My reasoning behind this was rather simple; the knowledge I had regarding magic was somewhat abundant and ’easily’ applicable since I now kind of knew the how as well as the why, so although I could learn even more I was at least somewhat confident in myself in that field.
Confidence didn’t correlate to skill though, so I was still going to study and attempt some more contained and less explosive magics here in my dorm, but I was more capable there then I was in those other areas of study.
Alchemy was something that I was super interested in but had a feeling that I was going to be severely out of my depths since I had never really been terribly talented with baking in my previous life, and Alchemy was pretty much baking...
Following the exact measurements and these esoteric instructions that left me feeling confused were sort of... definitely not something I was amazing at, but I wanted to be good at it because buying ingredients was forever going to be cheaper than buying the potion itself.
Also... I could make boatloads of money if I knew how to brew some decent potions, and it was also a very easy way to secure myself many different friends and Dungeon party members since a decent Alchemist was always welcome.
Promising people potions or salves in exchange for them joining me in a Dungeon delve for ingredients was a large part of the reason I had done so well in the early stages of the game, and that was something I wanted to replicate here.
Meanwhile I needed a refresher on the history of this city and the Academy just to not look like a complete idiot, and more importantly I wanted to find any and all information I could on Novara De Leone.
So I opened that Alchemy journal and began to go over the notes that had been left behind by Salvatora Crytallis, a woman who had figured out how to convert bones into metal and was capable of regrowing limbs with a small amount of potion.
Insane, completely unhinged, and utterly demented... but she was also probably one of the greatest Alchemists to ever exist - according to the lore - and was completely unknown after a certain point where her Alchemy Lab exploded randomly one day.
No body was ever found and she hadn’t left the lab in multiple days, so no one knew if she was alive or dead, but it had been so long without any word of her that many believed she was dead, and honestly she was never fleshed out after that.
Now for the contents of this journal... Salvatora was going over how she had taken the most widely used recipes for healing potions and refined it into something more unique by doing something rather... interesting.
She removed an ingredient and replaced another with one of ’lesser’ quality and somehow managed to make a better potion; the reactions between the mana that is innately in all things worked better with her recipe than the common one, though the ’problem’ with hers was a longer brewing time.
Salvatora listed out the recipe for the first healing potion - mixing Ruby Stalks, Bloody Rose Petals and a drop of Lizard Blood together in a flask filled with mana water - up to a certain point and begins noting down the interactions between them that would create the base of a healing potion.
Something about the interaction between the Ruby Stalks and the Bloody Rose Petals being forced thanks to the Lizard Blood activating the mana in them... it wasn’t good enough for Salvatora though, so she replaced the Lizard Blood with her own blood.
Specifically she focused her mana into the blood and dropped it into the mixture to give it far more power, and then she removed one of the later ingredients since it would interfere with her blood.
The more I read the more I realized I was just going to have to learn by doing it myself, though the processes she documented and how they did what they needed to do helped me understand some of the theory... to a certain extent.
Really what mattered here was removing some of the negative connotations towards Alchemy that I still held despite having never done it myself, and planting that small seed of confidence that might one day blossom into a true talent for it... hopefully...
I really wanted to make money the ’easy’ way, securing myself a stable, stress free future that could just make life so damn simple for me, but if that ended up not being the case there were still ways for me to make a living outside of Dungeon delves.
I would do more research on that later, but for now I put that journal aside and pulled over the book on the history of Mythia, going over it somewhat quickly as I just refreshed myself on what I knew while searching for anything I didn’t know.
Established roughly a millennia ago and built here by a group of powerful warriors, mages and alchemists who sought freedom away from the rest of the world, Mythia was just as its name suggested; a city of myth and legends.
The founders were some of the best of anything to ever live, they created something in the middle of extremely dangerous lands to escape the rest of the world, and then they began to foster relations between themselves and everyone else to further entrench themselves as an untouchable power of the world.
Amongst the founders was Novara De Leone, a Vampire who was both one of the most gifted spell casters of all time as well as a premier Alchemist, and she was the one who had discovered this gorgeous and perfect plateau for Mythia to be built on.
Apparently she was the quiet, reserved rock of the group who took care of everyone and tried to maintain a good attitude no matter what happened, and upon creating the city she just spent her time in her lab.
There were brief mentions of her possibly being a bit more ’supportive’ to some of the other founders during their times of need, and there was even a small segment of the book that suggested the reason the group was so successful was due entirely to Novara De Leone ’supporting’ everyone.
I don’t know exactly why the person who wrote this was skirting around saying that this Leone had been more than happy to have sex with her friends and peers to maintain peace but it was obvious that that was being implied.
But there was no mention of any sort of items that she had scattered around the city or some hidden stash of goodies that might have been eventually unearthed, so my hopes were sadly not being realized here.
It was still a good read and I had some decent notes taken down that would be useful later when I began to plot some more on the things I wanted to do and who I was going to definitely need to befriend, so I was rather happy.
Moving on to the final book I began to do some studying on the various ways I could cast spells and how to better preserve the mana I had so that I could cast more spells in less time; the primary idea that was being repeated was proper visualization and intent.
Knowing exactly what you wanted to do and how you could do it was the key to being efficient in your spell casting, which could take me from ten Fireballs before I got tired to anywhere between fifteen or even twenty.
Then there was the tips and tricks to being able to meditate easier and how to possibly open yourself up to more mana, though the risks of doing so were laid out; taking in too much too quickly could get you sick and in the worst cases, you could die to over saturation of your Core.
Additionally there were the various introductions and the like to enchanting, where you would need to focus your mana into your fingers before layering it atop whatever item you were enchanting in a very gentle yet firm way.
Usually done through runes of some kind to give your mana ’meaning’, which would remain as long as the runes were being fed even more mana so that they didn’t ever fade out of existence; another thing where I was going to have to try it in order to understand if I could do it.
It would require control and patience, which I would like to think I had, but until I did it I couldn’t be certain; either way this was another set of notes that I had filling my notebook and I was very much looking forwards to expanding on it sometime in the near future.
