Chapter 51: Back To The Library

Sadly my low stats and incapability to recuperate a large amount of mana in a short period of time meant that my rudimentary practice with Fireball came to an end far earlier than I had anticipated earlier.

That left me with a mild headache and me feeling like my mind had been drained of any and all energy, like I had just taken a lengthy exam and was finally freed; it was a fascinating thing to experience after casting so many spells back to back, and it did make me more curious, but...

I was a little too tired and my head was feeling emptier than usual, so I desperately needed to stop thinking and do literally anything else for an hour or two just to recuperate... and I had the perfect plan; go to the cafeteria and consume a large amount of food since I hadn’t had anything of substance in a long time now.

However it was worth it since I had learned a lot and was more capable now than I had been before I had left my bed this morning, putting me at ease after the mini panic attack I had experienced the night before.

Parts of it were still sticking with me, primarily the sudden loss of anyone I actually knew and had a real connection with, but - even as complicated as it made me feel - I was going to meet new people and forge new connections.

Albeit a few that were entirely of the flesh and little more, and I also didn’t fully trust myself to not end up encountering either a woman or a futanari that would take advantage of me in one way or another; it was a flaw of mine to be socially stunted, and I don’t think any amount of time would fix that.

So with very lackluster and basic thoughts floating around my somewhat empty head right now, I walked slowly through the hallways and made my way back to the dining hall to get something to eat, sliding onto a bench and eating alone once more.

This time the dish served was a juicy steak resting atop a mound of creamy alfredo, flooding my nostrils with a wondrous scent that short circuited my brain and threw me into a mild ’coma’ as I just blacked out.

When I came back around the meal was completely gone, though thankfully the plate hadn’t been licked clean so I wasn’t at risk of having embarrassed myself that way... I think...

Draining the glass of water and just taking a moment to bask in the lingering taste on my tongue, I nodded, pat my stomach and got off of the bench to go and do something else with the remaining time in this last ’free’ day.

Tomorrow classes would start, and there were many different possibilities for how the day might play out depending on what class I got and when; both because of the content of the classes and also because of who might be there.

Maybe I would be taking Alchemy in the morning with the Princess of the powerful House Jinir, or perhaps I would be sparring with Kha’Miero and the somewhat cool and aloof Ingra Tal, heir to a large family of assassins.

Dancing with one of the wealthiest scions of a mercantile Empire in my Etiquette class or playing piano with a Siren singing alongside me; the possibilities were endless and they would be what shaped everything going forwards.

For now I had to set up myself as best I could so that by the time I was in those classes I could stand on my own and not make a fool of myself, because digging myself out of that sort of social hole would be troublesome and set me back quite a bit.

There were people I wanted to befriend and things I wanted to learn that could only be taught to those who did well enough in those classes; brewing a potion that permanently empowered my hubs would be extraordinarily expensive if I tried to do it myself, but if I aced many of the Alchemy tests I would be given the opportunity to work alongside my Professor to brew such a potent draught.

Learning spells that held unique combinations of various other spells could be done if one of the Professors thought I was talented and worthy enough, or maybe I would be taught a special kind of swordplay by a combat instructor...

Things could happen so long as I applied myself correctly, and those were the things that would help keep me not only alive but also thriving in this new world... because although I was apparently more attractive than I had once believed myself to be I wasn’t about to become someone’s trophy and call it there.

Though if that wealthy scion wanted me to be a trophy in exchange for unlimited money and materials I would dress myself up however they pleased before stripping back down just as fast... I mean, who wouldn’t?

If that made me morally bankrupt or whatever I didn’t really care, because a blank check was a blank check and so long as the person offering it wasn’t going to just toss me aside before I could cash it I would definitely take it.

Those were the thoughts that were in my head now as I walked back towards the Atoma Mirabelle Library, now feeling up for some extra studying on a few of the things that interested me the most.

All of which were released to magic, of course, though I was going to need to skim a history book or two... at least on Mythia, since I needed to learn a little more about that ’Leone’ person who’s ’teardrop’ I now had in my possession.

Improving the effects of meditation and my mana regeneration had me curious as to what else belonged to her and if they had equally as vague boons to give, which was where the history of Mythia would come into play.

During my time playing the game Novara De Leone had been mentioned quite a few separate times but only in passing and always in the way that we discussed someone ancient and relatively unknown.

We knew her name, some of her feats and even that she had been a rather ’prolific’ futanari, but besides that we knew nothing at all about her... and that was with everything that happened in the game revealing some rather fascinating plot points about the past, present and future depending on what you did.

Anyways, learning a little more about her would definitely be of use now that I had an item that presumably once belonged to her, so that was where the Atoma Mirabelle Library came into play; I could check out a few books on general topics before retreating to my dorm to just lose myself to studying, locked away from everyone else and not having to worry that someone might come along and make me forget what I was doing.

There were always a few ’predators’ prowling around every corner of the Academy waiting to find someone that fit their tastes, and after what happened this morning I was not entirely in the mood to be another meal... though if the opportunity presented itself I knew my body would tell me differently.

Taking my time to parse through the various tomes, journals and scrolls sitting on the vast shelves of the library yielded some good results since I found some more ’reliable’ pieces of literature to study from.

Alchemy notes from one of the greatest Alchemists to ever live that was tucked inside of a small journal, studies on different beginner magic techniques by quite a few different storied mages, Enchanting For Dummies 101, a short journal describing the founding of Mythia...

I was barely able to carry it all but it was definitely worth it, and the same older librarian from yesterday gave me the same exact smile as she watched me lay out each and every single one of those pieces of literature in front of her.

"Studying already, dear? That is promising~! Are you aware of the checkout policy?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Scribbling something down onto a sheet of paper, the librarian began to explain the moment I shook my head, this piece of basic knowledge escaping me since I used wikis and my own notes more than I did the library in game.

"All books, journals and scrolls are enchanted with a locator spell and protection spells, so any damage done is noted while they are with you. The severity of the damage and intent is also noted before you are punished, while any attempts to keep or steal them is automatic expulsion.

You have three days to return them with a grace period of two days for your first time; should you be late that drops to one day the next time you check anything out from the library. Returning anything late warrants hours of service to the library, and repeat offenders who cannot show any understandable reasons will be barred from checking anything out.

If you understand and agree sign here, otherwise these books, journals and scrolls all have to remain within the premises of the library. Also... while we don’t explicitly prevent you from copying anything from them, please don’t be under the assumption that you can make money by doing so."

The warnings were varied and the punishments severe, but I also wasn’t planning on doing anything besides taking these to my room and studying for this upcoming week, so I had no issue signing the agreement and lease forms for each one I was checking out.

"Thank you, Miss Natalie! I do hope you find everything you are looking for~! Also dear, I notice that someone managed to awaken their magic~! Good job~!"

That kind, motherly smile made my heart ache - in a good way - as she pat my hand before waving goodbye, sending me on my way with a bit of confusion since I had never really felt something like that before...

It was something that lingered with me even as I returned to my dorm, but the moment I was alone again I just shook it off and laid down each of my rented items before opening my journal, knowing that I was going to want to take notes.
