Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 71 - 70: Stacked Speed
Roger was still trying to figure out what Lin Xinghai meant when the young man suddenly dashed away.
The hall was packed with people. Under normal circumstances, you’d risk bumping into someone just by walking quickly.
And yet, Lin Xinghai was sprinting at full speed.
However, every time he was about to collide with someone, Lin Xinghai’s footwork would shift, his body twisting at an unnatural angle to dodge past them.
Roger’s jaw slowly dropped.
He could tell that while Lin Xinghai’s execution was still unpracticed, the Body Technique he was using was, without a doubt, the Phantom Body Technique.
’He learned it already?’ Roger almost bit his tongue in shock.
That’s right. Even if Lin Xinghai’s proficiency with the Phantom Body Technique was only at 10%, the very fact that he could successfully use it meant he had learned it.
As for how effectively he could use this Martial Arts in the future, that was merely a matter of practice and proficiency.
In the span of a single breath, Lin Xinghai crossed the entire hall and stood at the entrance of the Martial Arts Hall.
He took a moment to savor the feeling of the Phantom Body Technique.
Aside from its unpredictability, a crucial aspect of this Body Technique was the Speed boost.
The Speed he had just displayed was definitely 33 points.
In other words, a 10% proficiency in the Phantom Body Technique increased his Speed by 10%.
’If my proficiency with the Phantom Body Technique reaches 100%, does that mean my Speed will double when I use it?’
He also had another theory he needed to test.
Without waiting for Roger to catch up, Lin Xinghai activated his Speed Superpower.
In that instant, his Speed reached 60 points.
With his Superpower active, Lin Xinghai used the Phantom Body Technique again.
SWOOSH!
His figure moved through the street like a phantom.
And his Speed had reached a full 66 points!
"It works just like I thought!" Lin Xinghai clenched his fists in excitement. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Superpowers and Martial Arts could be used together, and their combined effect wasn’t a simple addition.
It was multiplicative!
For example, if he raised his proficiency with the Phantom Body Technique to 100%, he could first activate his Speed Superpower, bringing his Speed to 60 points.
The Phantom Body Technique would then double that base Speed, bringing it to a terrifying 120 points.
’Truly worthy of being a Profound Level Martial Art,’ Lin Xinghai thought. The 10,000 Points he spent were more than worth it.
With this level of enhancement, the amount of Blood Qi Power required to upgrade the Phantom Body Technique no longer seemed so daunting.
"Hey, what are you running so fast for?" Roger gasped, finally catching up.
His expression was one of shock, his eyes filled with bewilderment.
He’d never heard of anyone instantly learning a Martial Art right after the memory transmission.
And a Profound Level Martial Art, no less.
But having seen it with his own eyes, he no longer had a single doubt about Lin Xinghai’s earlier claim of mastering the Phantom Body Technique to the Entry Level within two or three weeks.
"Heh! I just got too excited after learning the Martial Arts," Lin Xinghai said.
Roger gave a noncommittal nod. If it were him, he’d do more than just run around like a madman; he’d probably do something even crazier.
"Alright, you’ve bought your Martial Arts. We should head back and help out," Roger said.
"Um... actually..."
"What is it? Why are you hemming and hawing?" Roger frowned.
"I want to hunt Zombies outside the Shelter," Lin Xinghai said, deciding to be direct.
"We’re so busy these days. The Mercenary Corps has no plans to take on any missions," Roger replied with a shrug.
"I know. What I mean is, I want to go out alone. How do I do that? Are there any forms I need to file?" Lin Xinghai asked.
"What? You want to go out alone? Absolutely not. That’s way too dangerous," Roger instinctively shot down the idea.
There was a consensus within the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps: if they properly nurtured Lin Xinghai, he was certain to become a powerhouse who could surpass even Fang Tianhe. When that day came, the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps could truly reach its Peak.
"I don’t think it’s that dangerous. With my current Gun Technique, I can kill even a High Level Zombie instantly. Plus, my Speed is high enough that I can easily escape if I run into a horde."
"Besides, I’ll just be hunting Zombies near the Shelter. I won’t go near the city ruins, so the chance of encountering a Mutated Zombie is minuscule."
"So, for me, going outside isn’t really that dangerous," Lin Xinghai analyzed earnestly.
"The chance of running into a Mutated Zombie might be minuscule, but it’s not zero. And besides Mutated Zombies, don’t you forget about the Hell Tornado."
"If you run into either of those, what will you do?" Roger, having calmed down, asked coolly.
Lin Xinghai’s expression froze. He desperately wanted to say, ’My luck can’t be *that* bad.’
But considering he had experienced transmigration and received a system, it wasn’t entirely impossible for him to run into a Hell Tornado and a Mutated Zombie every time he stepped outside.
"Why do you want to go out?" Roger asked, his tone softening.
"To practice the Phantom Body Technique! You know my improvement is fastest when I’m under pressure. Plus, I want to try fighting Zombies in close quarters," Lin Xinghai said, rattling off a couple of reasons.
In truth, the most important thing for him was to collect Blood Qi Power. He also had many other theories he wanted to test, like seeing what would happen if he let the system absorb an Elemental Crystal.
It would be difficult to do any of that with the prying eyes of the Mercenary Corps around.
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s reasons, especially the part about practicing the Phantom Body Technique, made Roger consider it seriously.
He had witnessed Lin Xinghai’s terrifying ability to learn under pressure; the Gun Technique he now possessed was the best proof of that.
After a long moment, he finally said, "It’s not out of the question for you to go out."
Joy immediately lit up Lin Xinghai’s face, but Roger’s next words made his expression stiffen slightly. "But you can’t go alone."
"I don’t think we need to bother anyone from the Mercenary Corps for something like this!" Lin Xinghai pressed.
"Don’t be so full of yourself. I never said I’d send anyone from our Mercenary Corps with you," Roger said, finally finding a chance to tease him back.
Of course, he didn’t dare jab at Lin Xinghai the same way he would with Xu Haishui, so he quickly revealed his solution. "My point is, you can go to the Mercenary Guild, join a capable hunting squad, and go hunt Zombies with them."
Lin Xinghai knew he’d been pushing Old Luo’s buttons, so he didn’t mind the teasing. Instead, he focused on what Roger had said. "A hunting squad? What’s that?"
