Chapter 70: Chapter 69: Phantom Body Technique

Jing Huanlian grew frantic at Roger’s words.

"Sir, you can’t put it that way," Jing Huanlian quickly argued. "I admit the Phantom Body Technique is the most difficult of all the techniques in our Martial Arts Hall. But that’s only because it’s a Profound Level Martial Art! Its power is on a completely different level from other martial arts."

"Profound Level Martial Arts?" Lin Xinghai was even more interested now.

"Yes, that’s right!" Seeing Lin Xinghai’s reaction, Jing Huanlian launched into her explanation with 200% enthusiasm. "Martial Arts are divided into four Levels: Sky, Earth, Profound, and Yellow."

"Most of the techniques we use are Yellow Level Martial Arts. Profound Level Martial Arts are a cut above. Even if you go to other major bases in the future, a martial art like this will ensure you’re never outmatched."

"And more importantly, the Phantom Body Technique is currently on sale. Even though it’s a Profound Level Martial Art, we’re selling it at the price of a Yellow Level one."

"That’s only because no one is buying it," Roger remarked nonchalantly, taking a bite of a peeled orange.

The smile on Jing Huanlian’s face didn’t waver, but ’she really wanted to stuff all the fruit from the platter into his mouth to shut him up’.

"Alright, I’ll take it," Lin Xinghai decided instantly.

Seeing the conversation was wrapping up, Roger quickly stuffed the rest of the oranges from the platter into his mouth before speaking. "Are you sure you want to buy this? Those 10,000 Points of yours will most likely go right down the drain."

"They won’t. I’m a fast learner," Lin Xinghai said with a smile.

Roger wanted to argue, but after a moment’s thought, he wisely held his tongue. He still wanted to preserve what little dignity he had left.

The moment Jing Huanlian heard Lin Xinghai say he’d buy it, she had already produced a card reader.

"Mr. Lin, we happen to have a training room free right now. As soon as you pay, I’ll set it up for you immediately so we don’t waste any time," Jing Huanlian said, brimming with enthusiasm.

Jing Huanlian didn’t truly breathe a sigh of relief until Lin Xinghai took out his Identity Card and the 10,000 Points were successfully deducted.

Next up was learning the martial art. The training rooms were on the third floor of the Martial Arts Hall. With Jing Huanlian leading the way, the group went up to the third floor.

There were ten training rooms in total, but all of them were empty.

"So this is what you meant by ’happen to have a training room free’?" Roger scoffed.

Now that the customer had paid, Jing Huanlian wasn’t so reserved. She smiled faintly and said, "Sir, with a mouth like yours, I bet you’re still single, right?"

Before Roger could react, Jing Huanlian led Lin Xinghai into the training room.

The so-called training room was just a small room containing a Memory Transmitter.

The Memory Transmitter worked on a principle similar to a neural interface, but this one forcibly wrote data to the brain.

"Please have a seat on the sofa and relax."

Lin Xinghai sat down. Jing Huanlian then brought over a device that looked like a helmet and placed it on his head.

"You might feel a little disoriented, but just hang in there. The whole process takes about a minute," Jing Huanlian said as she pressed the start button.

Lin Xinghai instantly felt a large block of memories flooding into his mind.

The sensation was similar to activating a Mecha, but these memory fragments were far clearer. Every single movement within them was etched into his mind, impossible to forget.

However, the discomfort Jing Huanlian had mentioned never came.

The power level of the Memory Transmitter seemed to be equivalent to a 50% synchronization rate with a Mecha.

All in all, it was still a matter of Perception Power.

A minute later, the Memory Transmitter shut down. A new set of memories had appeared in Lin Xinghai’s mind, giving him a profound understanding of the Phantom Body Technique. At the very least, he now knew how to begin practicing it.

Just as a sense of enlightenment dawned on him, the system notification chimed in right on cue.

"DING! Martial Art learned: Phantom Body Technique!"

A smile tugged at the corner of Lin Xinghai’s lips. ’This is exactly what I predicted.’

’Actually learning it myself? That’s not happening. Cheating with the system is the only way to go.’

He quickly opened his system panel.

Host: Lin Xinghai

Physique: 25 points

Power: 21 points

Speed: 30 points

Blood Qi Power: 17 points

Genetic Optimization Level: 30%+

Superpower: Speed (For ten seconds, Speed increases by 100%) (Energy Value: 10/10)

Basic Level Shooting Skill: Proficiency 100%+

Phantom Body Technique (Entry Level): Proficiency 1%+

Lin Xinghai couldn’t wait to tap the "+" sign next to Phantom Body Technique.

"DING! Spend one point of Blood Qi Power to upgrade?"

After Lin Xinghai selected "Yes," the system panel instantly changed.

Phantom Body Technique (Entry Level): Proficiency 2%+

Lin Xinghai stared at the screen, slightly stunned.

When he upgraded his Basic Level Shooting Skill, 1 point of Blood Qi Power had raised his proficiency by 10%. Yet for this Phantom Body Technique, it only increased it by 1%.

’Does it have to be this ridiculous? That’s a tenfold difference!’ Lin Xinghai felt a headache coming on.

He now had to agree with Roger. The difficulty of practicing the Phantom Body Technique was truly on another level. No wonder no one had managed to reach the Minor Success stage.

What he had now was just the Entry Level of the Phantom Body Technique. ’Knowing this system’s usual bullshit,’ he figured, ’I’ll probably have to get the proficiency to 100% before it can be upgraded to Minor Success.’

The amount of Blood Qi Power that would take...

This reinforced Lin Xinghai’s determination to go out and hunt Zombies. The system was a true Gold-Devouring Beast. If he relied solely on Genetic Potions, he’d go broke sooner or later.

Musing over this, he followed Jing Huanlian out of the training room.

Roger, who had been waiting outside the whole time, hurried over. "So? How was it?"

Lin Xinghai: "Hm?"

Roger: "How difficult is the Phantom Body Technique?"

Lin Xinghai: "It’s definitely a bit difficult. To reach Minor Success, it’ll probably take me two or three weeks."

Roger: "..."

The two of them walked down to the first floor. Roger waved a hand at Jing Huanlian, who was trailing behind them, motioning for her to stop following.

Once she was gone, Roger clapped Lin Xinghai on the shoulder and said in a deliberately casual tone, "There’s no one else around now, so you don’t have to worry about losing face. Just give it to me straight, man. This Phantom Body Technique... do you really think you can learn it?"

Lin Xinghai shot him an irritated look, but he knew that for some things, words were useless.

So, he opened his system panel and rapidly tapped the "+" sign, instantly raising his Phantom Body Technique (Entry Level) proficiency to 10%.

Lin Xinghai: "It’s pretty crowded here."

Roger: "Huh?"

Lin Xinghai: "Which makes it the perfect place to demonstrate the Phantom Body Technique."

Roger: "???"
