Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 128 - 127: Lin Xinghai’s Backup Plan
In the afternoon, Lin Xinghai diligently instructed everyone in Gun Technique. He didn’t leave the shooting range until 5:00 PM, after receiving a message on his wrist-mounted computer.
He had left a message for Gao Mountain that morning, asking to meet after their mission today to discuss some business.
Gao Mountain had just returned to the Shelter and sent him a reply.
Five minutes later, Lin Xinghai met Gao Mountain and the others in the bar area of the Mercenary Guild.
The group got a small private room. After they all sat down, Lin Xinghai asked with a smile, "So, how did it go today? A good haul?"
"The haul wasn’t as big as when you took us out, but it was still much better than before. More importantly, now that we have Mecha, we don’t have to worry about the threat of High Level Zombies anymore," Gao Mountain said with a chuckle.
Ling Xiu and the others were also smiling. They had been waiting for this day for who knew how long.
The drinks they ordered arrived shortly. As they drank, they discussed the future direction and plans for their Mercenary Corps.
To Lin Xinghai’s surprise, the Mountain and Sea Mercenary Corps had recruited five new members in a single day, bringing their total to ten.
And they weren’t greenhorns, either. They were veteran Mercenaries who had seen real combat and had plenty of experience.
"Impressive! Your recruitment speed is even faster than our Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps," Lin Xinghai said with admiration as he looked over the files Gao Mountain had sent him.
The quality of these new members was in no way inferior to the recruits of the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps.
If the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps hadn’t leveraged his fame for recruitment, they probably wouldn’t have been able to match the Mountain and Sea Mercenary Corps.
"Brother Lin, it’s not what you think," Gao Mountain said, quickly waving his hand dismissively at Lin Xinghai’s praise.
He then explained, "These guys are all old brothers of ours. They’re skilled, but they weren’t happy with how things were going in their old Mercenary Corps. We originally wanted to form a new corps with them from the very beginning."
"But that was too difficult a prospect back then, so they didn’t agree, though we stayed in touch. Now that the Mercenary Corps is officially established, it was only natural to invite them over. It’s just these few, though. Recruiting more later will probably be tough."
Lin Xinghai nodded in understanding. "That’s still great. You don’t have to rush recruitment. After all, more people means more management headaches. I’d suggest you also take the elite route. For Mercenaries, quality is more valuable than quantity."
"That way, with fewer personnel costs, you can invest the leftover money into better equipment. Your combat effectiveness won’t be any worse than other Mercenary Corps of the same Level, and your group will be more cohesive."
Gao Mountain nodded. He would seriously consider any advice from Lin Xinghai.
After a bit more detailed discussion, Lin Xinghai finally steered the conversation to the reason he had sought them out today.
"I’ve brought you all here today because there’s something I need your help with," Lin Xinghai said, his expression turning serious.
"Brother Lin, you don’t have to be so formal with us. Just tell us what you need," Gao Mountain said with a laugh.
When they decided to become a Mercenary Corps affiliated with Lin Xinghai, they had considered all sorts of possibilities. So, Gao Mountain wasn’t the least bit surprised that Lin Xinghai had a task for them.
"This is going to be dangerous, so I won’t force any of you. This isn’t a mission—we’re going to war with the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps," Lin Xinghai stated plainly.
Gao Mountain and the others were a little surprised. Since they had decided to throw their lot in with Lin Xinghai, they had spent the past couple of days catching up on everything related to the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps. Of course, that meant they knew about the bad blood between them and the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps.
But they hadn’t expected the conflict between the two Mercenary Corps to have escalated to this point.
However, Gao Mountain was only surprised. The Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps was just a Second Level Mercenary Corps, and he figured the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps could probably handle them on their own, so they weren’t too worried.
Besides, with Lin Xinghai around, they felt even more secure. Ling Xiu and the others clearly remembered how Lin Xinghai had led them to extort the Giant Hammer Mercenary Corps just the day before yesterday.
So they weren’t the least bit worried about being on the losing end while following Lin Xinghai.
"Brother Lin, don’t worry! Since you’ve asked, we’ll definitely do it. Just tell us what you need," Gao Mountain said, thumping his chest.
"Here’s the plan. Our alliance isn’t public knowledge yet, so when we head out for our mission the day after tomorrow..."
Lin Xinghai then laid out his plan. As Gao Mountain and the others listened, their scalps began to tingle.
From Lin Xinghai’s plan, they could deduce that the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps was more than capable of handling the enemy on its own.
Bringing them in was just an insurance policy—to bolster their own forces while ensuring that not a single member of the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps could escape, which would prevent future trouble back at the Shelter.
And when it came to tracking, Ling Xiu’s Thousand-Mile Eye Superpower gave them a unique advantage.
After explaining everything, Lin Xinghai felt a great deal of pressure lift. With the Mountain and Sea Mercenary Corps as his backup, he could face any unexpected developments with confidence.
At 6:00 PM, Lin Xinghai said his goodbyes to Gao Mountain’s group. Then, as usual, he went to find Liu Miaomiao and the others to get some dinner.
After dinner, he walked Liu Miaomiao and the others back to their dorms at the Government Hall. Then, he and Miaomiao started chatting on their wrist-mounted computers.
Being able to chat online made Lin Xinghai’s evenings of instructing everyone in Gun Technique much less boring.
He also discovered that Liu Miaomiao wasn’t as shy online as she was in person. Even when he occasionally teased her, she would just send an angry emoji but wouldn’t ignore him.
And so, at 10:00 PM, Lin Xinghai left the Mercenary Guild and finally headed back to his new residence.
Following the navigation on his wrist-mounted computer, Lin Xinghai arrived at the Star Shield District.
It was the only residential complex in the Middle Level District, and none of the apartments inside were smaller than 200 square meters. In a Shelter where every inch of land was precious, only the rich and powerful could afford to live here.
Since his information had already been uploaded to the system, the district’s security robots didn’t stop him.
After entering the Star Shield District, Lin Xinghai went to apartment 201 in Building C. He took out his Identity Card, swiped it on the access panel, and the automatic door slid open.
The lights inside turned on one by one, and the central air conditioning immediately adjusted the apartment to the most comfortable temperature. As he stepped into the foyer, a service robot glided over to help him with his coat and shoes.
’Tsk! People in the future sure know how to live!’ Lin Xinghai thought, unable to help himself as he watched the service robot follow his every step, ready to obey his next command.
In this apartment, he hardly had to do anything but enjoy himself.
This was the most comfortable and peaceful night Lin Xinghai had spent since he’d transmigrated.
The next day, he felt refreshed and went to continue instructing everyone in their Gun Technique practice.
Sometimes he thought to himself, ’This kind of peaceful life is actually pretty great. I eat well, live well, and even have a beautiful girl to flirt with.’
But good times are always fleeting. On the morning of the third day, Lin Xinghai woke up bright and early. After eating the breakfast prepared by the service robot, he headed for their base of operations.
After two days of preparation, they were finally going to face the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps. To put it dramatically, this could even be considered their first indirect clash with the Morgan Conglomerate.
