Chapter 127: Chapter 126: Your Dorm is Next to Mine

As the saying goes, money makes things happen. Just 15 minutes after Lin Xinghai swiped his card, all the paperwork for the suite he wanted to buy was completed.

"Sir, the information has been uploaded. Your Identity Card now functions as the key card. Would you like me to take you to see the suite now?" the clerk asked respectfully as she handed the Identity Card back to Lin Xinghai.

"No need. I have other business to attend to, so I’ll be on my way," Lin Xinghai said, waving his hand. He then returned to the Mercenary Guild and resumed instructing the others on their Gun Technique.

Although he could have let everyone train by themselves according to the plan he had laid out, it was no substitute for his real-time guidance.

With him personally overseeing their training, the group’s efficiency improved by at least 10 to 20 percent.

However, Lin Xinghai’s mind wasn’t entirely on the group. For about a third of the time, he was secretly preoccupied with his own little plans.

When it was nearly 11:00 AM, he left without another word.

He first went to a Western-style restaurant and spent 600 Points to order six steak meals. He arranged for them to be delivered to the Government Hall in the Lower Level District at a designated time.

Immediately after, he headed to the Electronics Plaza, where nearly all of the Middle Level District’s electronics stores were concentrated.

After going inside, Lin Xinghai browsed around and finally chose an Ice Crystal series wrist-mounted computer, priced at 6,666 Points.

The device had a crystalline, translucent appearance, almost like glazed glass. According to the shopkeeper, it was one of the most popular models among women.

After having the shopkeeper place it in an exquisite gift box, Lin Xinghai swaggered off toward the Lower Level District.

It was nearly lunchtime, and not many people were left in the Government Hall.

"Xiaoliu! You’ve been working so diligently these past few days, and the leadership has taken notice. We feel that having you as an ordinary guide is a waste of your talents. As it happens, the assistant lobby manager position is open, and I was wondering if you might be interested. Of course, if you do well, we could make it a permanent position after a while," said Le Cheng, the Human Resources supervisor, approaching Liu Miaomiao with great enthusiasm.

As he said this, Le Cheng felt a bit emotional. Initially, he had agreed to take in the five women purely as a favor to Roger.

In his view, just knowing Roger was a stroke of incredible luck for them.

But he never would have imagined that these women also knew Lin Xinghai—the man ranked second on the shooting leaderboard—and that their relationship was quite close. After all, he himself had seen Lin Xinghai come pick the women up from work several times.

In particular, Liu Miaomiao had been fending off numerous suitors over the past two days. Tired of being pestered, she had started using Lin Xinghai as a shield, and now, her status as his girlfriend was all but confirmed.

And so, that was what had led to the current scene.

"Ah!" Liu Miaomiao’s mouth fell open in surprise. The promotion was happening far too quickly. Even though she was an excellent employee, it should have been impossible to reach that position in less than half a year.

’But it’s only been a few days!’

But Liu Miaomiao wasn’t stupid. While she didn’t know the exact details, she understood this was related to Lin Xinghai.

"There’s no need, Supervisor Le Cheng. Thank you," Liu Miaomiao said, quickly waving her hands in refusal.

"Ah! Why not?" Le Cheng grew a little nervous.

Although the status of a Divine Sharpshooter wasn’t enough to influence the entire Government Hall, one could only imagine the caliber of people he associated with. He might not be able to touch the whole administration, but if he wanted to go after one specific person, it would be as easy as saying the word.

"Um, it’s because I’m planning to join a Mercenary Corps. I’ll probably be resigning in a few days," Liu Miaomiao said, looking a bit embarrassed.

"Oh! Haha! That’s perfectly fine, perfectly fine. Being a Mercenary is certainly a good career. Their privileges and social standing are much higher than ours," Le Cheng said with a hearty laugh.

As he was speaking, he suddenly glimpsed a young man walking in through the entrance.

"Your boyfriend is here, so I won’t disturb you two. There’s hardly anyone here anyway, and with only a few minutes left, you can go ahead and leave early," Le Cheng said before waving goodbye and walking away.

"He’s not..." Liu Miaomiao started to explain, but Le Cheng had already walked off.

"Miaomiao, what’s wrong?" Lin Xinghai asked, puzzled by the anxious look on her face.

"This is all your fault." Liu Miaomiao reached out, pinched the soft part of Lin Xinghai’s waist, and said fiercely, "Did you do this on purpose? You offered to be my shield, and now everyone thinks I’m your girlfriend."

"Uh, I had no idea it would turn out like this!" Lin Xinghai quickly denied. ’Girls get embarrassed easily. There are some things you just can’t say out loud, even if you know they’re true.’

This was the conclusion he had drawn after Liu Miaomiao rejected him yesterday.

Liu Miaomiao pouted, though she wasn’t truly angry—it was more out of bashfulness. She quickly changed the subject. "Why did you come at this time? Is something wrong?"

"There are no missions today, and the Mercenary Corps’ training is on the right track. I had some free time, so I thought I’d come have lunch with you all to make up for being absent yesterday," Lin Xinghai said with a smile.

"Who asked you to make up for it!" Liu Miaomiao retorted, but the delighted expression on her face gave her true feelings away.

"Right! I told you yesterday that I’m now the captain of the fourth squad, and you’ve been assigned to my team. But you don’t have a communication device, which makes it difficult for me to assign you tasks. So, this is for you." As he spoke, Lin Xinghai took out the Ice Crystal series wrist-mounted computer.

"Ah! This is too valuable. I can’t take it," Liu Miaomiao said, waving her hands in protest.

"It’s required for the job. You have to take it," Lin Xinghai said with a stern expression.

"But..." Liu Miaomiao still hesitated.

"Then consider it a loan. With your abilities, I’m sure you’ll earn enough Points to pay me back in no time," Lin Xinghai said.

"Okay!" This time, Liu Miaomiao accepted it without hesitation and put it on her wrist, her eyes full of admiration.

Everyone had owned a wrist-mounted computer before the apocalypse, so Liu Miaomiao was not at all unfamiliar with it. She quickly used her current Identity Card to register an account.

Just then, she received a message from Lin Xinghai containing an address and an identification code.

"What’s this?" Liu Miaomiao asked, curious.

"It’s the address for the dorms. The Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps assigns quarters to every member. Your dorm is the room next to mine. Just link the identification code to your Identity Card, and you’ll be able to get in," Lin Xinghai said, cleverly twisting the truth.

In a way, he wasn’t lying. ’If I sleep in the master bedroom and she sleeps in the side bedroom, it really *is* the room next to mine. Once she moves in, everything else will fall into place.’

"Oh, okay!" Not suspecting a thing, Liu Miaomiao assumed it was some kind of dorm with private rooms. She saved the address, planning to move in as soon as she went to the Middle Level District.

Seeing that Liu Miaomiao didn’t object, Lin Xinghai was overjoyed. ’The plan is at least halfway to success!’

After that, Lin Xinghai had a lively lunch with Wang Yao and the others before leaving in high spirits.

He knew he couldn’t rush things with Liu Miaomiao. For now, he needed to focus more of his attention on how to deal with the Wild Wolf Mercenary Corps.

So, besides the special Gun Technique training for the group, he had one more important arrangement he still needed to make.
