Chapter 207: Did that wood offend you somehow?

Rory had just closed her eyes on the sofa when she heard Xarion’s footsteps approaching.

"Stop." Her sleepy voice cut through the quiet.

Xarion immediately froze mid-step. "Female Master..." he said softly, a hint of grievance in his tone.

She had been the one to invite them in. And yet now she was ignoring them.

Hearing the faintly aggrieved note in his voice, Rory didn’t soften in the slightest. "Go back. You all need to lie down and sleep quietly. If you don’t... I’ll get angry."

The moment she said that, Xarion instantly turned around and trudged back to the bed, flopping down with the air of someone whose world had just collapsed.

Nix, Jasper, and Wen lay perfectly still on the bed, not daring to move an inch.

Seeing that they had finally settled down, Rory curled her lips in satisfaction and soon drifted off to sleep.

The Next Morning

Rory woke feeling refreshed and energetic.

With Jasper, Nix, Xarion, and Wen accompanying her, she headed out to board the star rail that would take them toward the Four Domains.

Once they had taken their seats on the star rail, Rory sent a message to Yuel.

Rory:

Yuel, we’ve already set out. In a few days, I’ll finally be able to see you.

After that, she sent another message to Vincent, letting him know she had begun the journey.

A few days earlier, Vincent had finally managed to send her a reply.

Rory had already told him about her plan to travel to see him and Yuel—and about Terry.

Vincent didn’t object to her coming to the Four Domains now, though he was clearly worried about her condition, knowing she would soon begin growing the fruit.

After sending the messages, Rory received no immediate reply from either of them.

She knew they were likely busy again.

Closing her light-brain, she took out the wood and carving tools she had prepared earlier.

Rory had studied carving before; her craftsmanship was quite good.

Originally, she had planned to carve a small statue of herself together with Yuel, depicted with his delicate blossom.

But now that Terry was on the way—and after remembering the child’s appearance in her dream—she decided to add another small figure: the tiny Terry she had seen there, perched upon the blossom.

Imagining the finished piece, Rory infused a trace of her ability into the carving knife and began working carefully.

When Nix entered carrying a glass of juice for her, he found her seated at the table, tools in hand, repeatedly poking and carving at a block of wood.

He set the juice beside her and stared at the poor piece of wood with confusion.

"Rory... did that wood offend you somehow? I can crush it for you if you want. How did it upset you so badly that you keep stabbing it like that? What if you tire yourself out?"

Rory paused her carving and looked up, smiling faintly. "The wood didn’t offend me. I bought it on purpose," Rory explained. "I’m carving something."

"Carving?" Nix knew about carving. He had seen people carve stone, crystal, even metal—materials used to forge weapons.

But wood?

That was new to him.

Those other materials were strong, durable, often filled with energy. Perfect for crafting weapons.

He could even do some of that work himself.

But what Rory was doing now looked completely different.

"Rory, what can you carve from wood?" he asked curiously.

Wood wasn’t as tough as stone or metal, nor did it contain the energy that crystals held.

What kind of weapon could possibly come from it?

"It’s not a weapon," Rory said with a small smile. "It’s a wooden figurine."

She took a sip of the juice he had brought her and picked up the carving knife again.

"I promised Yuel I’d give him a gift. So I’m planning to carve him a wooden figure myself."

Nix blinked.

Rory... was making a gift for Yuel?

What exactly had Yuel done to deserve such good fortune?

His luck was unbelievable.

Nix stared at the block of wood in Rory’s hands. At the moment, it still looked like nothing—just rough cuts and unfinished shapes.

But this was a gift Rory was making with her own hands.

That alone made it more precious than anything that could be bought.

He bit his lip slightly and looked at her.

He wanted a gift too. A gift Rory had made herself.

"Rory... what do I have to do to get a gift from you too? I don’t need anything fancy," he added quickly. "A wooden carving like that would be enough."

Rory paused her work and studied him carefully.

"I can make you a carving," she said after a moment. "But I don’t have any extra wood right now. You’ll have to wait a while."

"I’ll wait," Nix replied immediately, his face lighting up.

"It doesn’t matter how long."

"Alright," Rory said with a nod. "Once we’ve seen Yuel and come back, I’ll buy some suitable wood. After that, I’ll make one for you."

For Rory, carving wooden figures was one of the simplest things in the world.

"Rory, you’re the best."

Unable to hold back, Nix leaned forward and planted an enthusiastic kiss on her cheek.

Then he quickly let go, stepping back as if afraid he might interrupt her.

"You keep working," he said. "I’ll stay nearby and keep quiet. I’ll just keep you company."

He dragged over a chair and sat down beside her, though not too close—he didn’t want to disturb her concentration.

He even set his communicator to silent mode.

Watching Rory carve with focused attention, Nix quietly lifted his communicator and snapped a photo.

Then he sent it to their group chat.

Nix: [Photo.jpg]

Nix: Rory looks so charming when she’s focused!

A moment later—

Xarion: Female Master... why is she stabbing that piece of wood?

Nix: She’s not stabbing it. Rory’s carving a wooden figurine.

Nix: And she already promised she’ll make one for me as a gift.

Nix: [Happy.jpg]

Seeing the message, Xarion’s already lifeless expression grew even darker—his gloomy aura thickening noticeably.

The Female Master was actually going to personally carve a wooden figurine for Nix?

Even though Xarion didn’t really understand what a wooden figurine was, that wasn’t the point.

It was something Rory made with her own hands.

How could it be given only to Nix?

Meanwhile, Jasper had also seen the messages in the group chat.

His eyes narrowed slightly as his fingers moved quickly across his light-brain.

Jasper:

Nix, Xarion, come over when you have time. We need to discuss how to arrange who accompanies Rory over the next few nights.

Jasper:

You both saw what happened last night.

Jasper:

We can’t keep going to Rory and asking her to choose.

Jasper:

We should decide among ourselves who goes to stay with her.

He absolutely did not want to end up sharing a bed with those two again.

Nix:

Agreed.

Xarion:

Sure.

Wen, who had been silently lurking in the chat the entire time, said nothing. He knew he wasn’t in a position to speak.

Still... he couldn’t help thinking that he wanted one of those hand-carved figurines too.

One hour later, inside the star rail’s conference room.

Jasper placed a prepared box on the table in front of Nix and Xarion.

"We’ll use the simplest—and fairest—method," he said calmly. "Drawing lots."

"Inside the box are three pieces of paper."

"Whoever draws 1 accompanies Rory tonight."

"2 gets tomorrow night."

"3 gets the night after."

"If you agree, we can draw now."

"I agree."

Nix didn’t hesitate. The moment Jasper finished speaking, he reached into the box and pulled out a paper ball.

Xarion glanced at Jasper.

"You pick first."

Jasper nodded calmly and reached into the box, drawing one of the remaining paper balls.

Only after Jasper finished did Xarion reach in to take the last one.

The moment Xarion unfolded his paper, a miserable howl erupted from across the table.

"My luck is terrible!" Nix groaned. "I actually drew 3!"

Xarion raised an eyebrow and opened his own slip. The number 2 stared back at him.

His brows knit slightly. Jasper definitely tampered with something.

Seeing the number in Xarion’s hand, Nix looked at Jasper with blatant envy.

"Jasper, did you go pray to the Beast God beforehand or something?"
