Insect Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 91: The level grind begins!
"I had to make my tame defeat a beast 3 levels above its current level. I also had to survive a night in the woods on my own—any help and it would not complete… It's always a tricky one, the breakthroughs." Lucien spoke while looking distant, there was nostalgia on his face.
"3 levels above… living alone in the forest…" Theo muttered and thought about it.
No matter how he looked at it, three levels above meant that the creature he had to defeat was level 8 while his brother's was at a bottleneck of level 5.
"Were there any loopholes for it, elder brother? Something like if others helped you, it would still be considered completed for the 3-level-above one." Theo asked after he realized it.
Lucien chuckled but shook his head, "No, it specified it had to be me and the beast only, nothing else."
Theo was perplexed. He thought about defeating a level 6 beast at level 3, and it didn't make sense—the power difference seemed bigger.
"But it's different for everyone, Theo. While I got this requirement, someone in my class at the time when I was in the academy only had to run 30 km every day for a month and defeat a beast one level above it. That's it." Lucien explained slowly, and Theo nodded. It really was all random.
"That is right, young master." Clara chimed in too. "It is very different for everyone. While I cannot compare to what Master Lucien went through in the breakthrough, I myself had to defeat a creature 2 levels above my boar."
Theo listened to her and felt like there was a connection.
"Is it common for people to get the mission of defeating something above their level?" Theo asked curiously.
Lucien thought about it for a few seconds before nodding. "I have heard many get the same as this. But it is different a lot of times too." Lucien muttered with squinted eyes and a tilted face.
Theo only nodded. Now that he knew what happened during the time of breakthrough.
'Knowing me, the breakthrough will be some tough mission…' Theo thought with a sigh, yet his eyes widened in shock. The others looked at him with confusion.
'Did… did I just raise a flag against myself?' Theo asked himself. Now, his mind was on how difficult and unique his situation would be.
"Good morning, e-elder brother!" Soon, Bram came to the area too and politely greeted his elder brother with a warm smile.
Lucien's worries faded away, and he ruffled Bram's finely done hair with love. "Hahahaha, good morning, Bram. How did you sleep today?"
"All good, thank you for asking," Bram said almost instantly with focus in his eyes, yet it made him look cuter. Everyone, including Theo, warmed up looking at that smile. It was like Bram had a skill of calming hearts.
He nodded toward the attendants too and then went toward Theo and greeted him the same way. Theo reciprocated.
"Would you like a light spar with me, elder brother Bram?" Theo asked, and Bram's body jerked. He gave an awkward smile to Theo and nodded.
"Sure…"

Everyone couldn't help but chuckle at them. All this month, Theo had sparred with Bram so many times that even though Bram was not very good at it and, in fact, hated sparring, he had gotten a lot better too.
The only thing Bram had come to do was his daily training, yet Theo always made him spar too. And knowing Bram, he never refused.
Bram's attendant went toward Theo and Lucien's attendants and stood there. She was proud seeing him come and train first thing in the morning.
The spar went on for a few minutes before Bram fell to the ground. Theo had pulled his punches, and that was the reason it went on for so long.
Now that Theo knew what needed to be done and his basics were completed for the month, he did a little bit of stretching and form training before leaving for the forest.
This time, Lucien didn't go with him—he had some things to do of his own.
While they were moving toward the forest in the carriage, Theo curiously asked Clara, "What did it take to defeat a beast 2 levels higher than you, Clara?"
Clara, who was already thinking about something, came out of her daze and smiled. "At first, I tried the same thing as you asked before—getting someone else's help. I even gave quite a bit of money for help, but after killing the beast, the requirement was not completed." She stated nostalgically.
"And as I could not level up anymore because of the cap, all I could do was train the boar's abilities. It took me a few months before I was able to defeat a level 7 beast."
"It's making me curious—how big is the difference in strength between someone below the level 5 cap and a level 7 creature, Clara?" Theo asked, and Clara nodded in understanding.
"The difference is huge, young master. When a beast and a human break their level 5 cap, they get +5 in all stats instead of +3 that we get normally. Even the free points are at +4."
"Woah… that is huge… no wonder there was such a difference in the aura of the level 7 ape that attacked us." Theo muttered.
"But there is also the fact that the difference is only seen by those below level 5, young master. When we go beyond the level 5 cap, not only us but everyone gets these rewards, making it quite normal and common."
"Hmm, makes sense." Theo nodded. Breaking through level 5 was only a worry for him because he didn't have much time, but for others? It came with time, just like Clara.
"Only when one completes the level 10 cap will they be considered somewhat special, young master… those who reach that level have a monstrous level of strength themselves. Their beasts are a different thing."
From what Clara spoke, Theo remembered his father's level, and he nodded. Reaching level 11 was quite the achievement.
