When Rain approached the area ahead, he eventually found the remnants of several flying fortresses of the dragons around. He was pretty sure that they weren't supposed to be in that area, but that didn't matter much. What did matter was the fact that Rain found them surrounding a massive trunk of a tree. It looked like a stump a massive one that was five hundred meters long and wide.

It was also two hundred meters tall.

"The roots are spreading… even though the tree looks dead," Rain thought while looking around. "The mana levels there are insane."

"You should take a closer look in order to confirm what it is made of," Larisa said.

"You should destroy all of it with my sword before the dragons sense the danger and come to eat you alive," The woman in the darkness said.

Rain didn't want to do either since it was too risky, but the others should have started the fight with the dragons… with some luck, they would have won some battles without suffering too many casualties.

Rain didn't know how he could destroy something that massive… but he wanted to at least cut the connection that it had with the dragons to stop creaking their spawns. To do that, Rain had to get closer… in the end, he took a deep breath and then stepped in.

Rain got closer and closer while looking around and hoping that he would be attacked, but that never happened… at that point in time, he couldn't help but question the dragons' competence… did they have that much confidence on the endurance of that massive tree stump?

When he got closer enough to see it, Rain confirmed that it was completely free from snow… as soon as it touched it, it was absorbed since the snow was created by the magic of the ice dragons.

"Maybe… this is why things got weird on the first layer," Rain thought.

"You think that they used something like this to drain all the nutrients from the old Earth?" Larisa asked.

Rain's thoughts regarding the mysterious giant stump and its effects on the planet led him to a worrisome realization. He connected the dots between the drastic natural phenomena witnessed in Nigel's memories—dust storms, floods, and earthquakes—and recognized them as signs of the planet's deterioration.

These occurrences hinted at the systematic draining of the planet's life force, a process that instilled fear and danger in Rain's thoughts.

That puzzled Rain deeply. His understanding of the First Dragons' blood was that it had facilitated the world's ability to wield mana, an essential life force. However, the existence of an enormous entity capable of siphoning off mana and nutrients raised many questions.

If the giant stump had the capability to drain mana, it contradicted Rain's belief that the First Dragons' blood empowered the world to access and utilize mana. This inconsistency troubled Rain…

The concept of an external force draining the world's mana reserves posed a threat not only to the planet's vitality but also to the fundamental understanding of how mana functioned. Rain grappled with the disconcerting notion that something other than the dragons or the First Dragons' blood might be responsible for the catastrophic depletion of the planet's life force.

That was the key to understanding everything…

"Regardless, what are you planning to do to destroy all this?" Larisa asked.

Rain nodded since he didn't have time to waste and tried to burn the stump, but his mana was absorbed again. Without any other choice, he jumped and then used Frozen Impulse on an ice wall in the war to return and attack with his fists… the skin of Rain's fists peeled, but he didn't even feel the impact… the stump actually draining the kinetic energy of the impact as well…

"You have gotta be kidding me… It can't only absorb mana?" Nigel asked. "What the fuck is this?"

"I thought that we already established that it could absorb other things as well like nutrients to build the bodies of the spawns," Larisa said. "I guess our powers won't have any effect on this…"

They only had one remaining option, but Larisa didn't want to say it since she also didn't like the idea of cornering Rain… Still, even Rain couldn't negate that he had to use the ominous sword… if it was a dragon-slaying relic, then it should have some effect.

Besides, now it was the time to learn as much as possible because it was hard to imagine that all of their problems would be solved just by destroying that and killing those dragons only.

In the end, Rain grabbed the weapon and raised it… it didn't take long for him to feel the aura emanating from it and a shadow eventually moving to his hands, but he couldn't feel any ill feelings coming from it.

"You don't have to worry about it," The woman in the darkness said.

"So reassuring…" Rain shrugged.

There was no time to waste or hesitate, so Rain swung down the sword and pierced the stump… this time, he felt the impact, and he was able to pierce it quite a bit.

As Rain pierced the colossal stump, an intense surge of energy rippled through the weapon. The previously dormant relic came alive, pulsating with newfound power. It heated up, radiating an increasing warmth that transferred through Rain's grip, gradually spreading through his entire being.

The sword seemed to resonate with him. It filled him with otherworldly vigor, infusing Rain with a potent energy that surged through his veins. The heat emanating from the blade was not only physical but also an embodiment of the power it held, a manifestation of the latent might it possessed.

The surprises didn't end there… Rain heard the sound of static in his ears, and he also felt his own mana vibrating in response as the power inside him grew.

"This is a lot of mana, so I shared some with you since I am rusty," The woman in the darkness said.
