"That guy easily countered all of Sealyn attacks… he was also able to control the water around the bodies of the sea warriors and make them feel bad," Seara said. "I don't know how he did that, but that decreased our strength by half."

Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, highly toxic gas that can be produced naturally in marine environments through various processes, such as the decay of organic matter in sediments, volcanic activity, or certain bacterial actions. When present in high concentrations, hydrogen sulfide can interfere with the respiratory systems of fish by reducing the oxygen levels in the water.

This can lead to fish experiencing respiratory distress or suffocation, making it challenging for them to respire normally.

The enemy's spell caused similar suffocation-like effects among the sea folk, and it's plausible that a magical variant. The use of magic to replicate such environmental disturbances could involve manipulating the water's chemical composition or creating a localized enchantment that induces a lack of oxygen in the immediate vicinity.

This spellcaster could target the aquatic beings' ability to extract oxygen from the water, causing them to struggle as if deprived of air, despite being underwater.

"Another thing… that guy looked pretty similar to Esmeralda," Seara said. "You said that her kids are all there and focus on using earth magic, right?"

"That is right…" Rain said while rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Since that is the case, this person could only be one guy… Esmeralda's little brother. I don't know why he joined the dragons now, but I would say that the chances of him being the guy who killed the beast and the magic people to start the war was him as well."

Rain's memories of the events following the war with the king and Joanis revealed a series of mysterious occurrences that unfolded over several years. The spared of human soldiers after the conflict had consequences that gradually unfolded in an unsettling manner.

The soldiers who were initially spared started to vanish one by one over the course of several years, creating an air of uncertainty and confusion.

This slow but consistent disappearance of the soldiers was a puzzle in itself, a gradual thinning of their numbers until, five years later, the remaining ten thousand vanished overnight. The suddenness of this mass disappearance was both shocking and perplexing, leaving behind a void of unanswered questions for one hundred of years.

Rain's thinking led him to a grim hypothesis, piecing together a chilling scenario that suggested a deliberate orchestration by Joanis. He assumed that these spared soldiers, left alive by his mercy after the conflict, might have been systematically eliminated to serve a sinister purpose.

The notion that these soldiers might have been sacrificed intentionally to fuel Esmeralda's little brother's growth was a disturbing thought.

Joanis, being a strategic and calculating individual, might have orchestrated these deaths with a purpose in mind – possibly to instigate or facilitate Esmeralda's sibling's development or to create a scenario that would give him the chance to surpass Rain… but it didn't happen fast enough.

When Seara heard Rain's explanation, she was truly astonished… it made too much sense, even though it was madness. Before dying, Joanis forced the king to give that order to his soldiers… to make them surrender and then look for the prince and let him kill them to make himself stronger.

They learned that Rain got stupidly stronger thanks to many wars and they wanted the former prince to become as strong as him, but he didn't get as strong in time, apparently.

"For him to return now of all times…" Seara said when Rain finished healing her eye. "It will be troublesome if he says out loud who he is."

"Yeah…" Rain said while thinking about the situation.

Rain's possibly discovery of one of the elusive enemies he had been relentlessly pursuing brought a surge of mixed emotions. However, the situation at hand was far from conducive to an immediate intervention. Several complex and daunting factors weighed heavily on his mind.

Among these concerns was the precariousness of entering a conflict, it would warn to the dragons about his return. Given the history between Rain and the dragons, a sudden entrance into a battle could cause a lot of issues. He needed to plan ahead carefully, avoiding any missteps that might lead to unwarranted hostilities.

Moreover, the potential proclamation of Esmeralda's brother as the rightful ruler of the human kingdom posed an imminent threat of discord between the sea folk, the demi-humans, and humans at large. This could potentially sow the seeds of future wars, pitting these factions against each other in a difficult struggle for dominance and power.

For Sealyn, a challenging predicament loomed ahead. Her allegiance would likely be torn between her people and the humans. Considering the circumstances, she might be compelled to stand by those who supported her cause, thus creating a rift that further shows the already fragile relations between the sea folk and humanity.

"What are you going to do?" Seara asked after she confirmed that her vision was back to normal. "We should talk with Sealyn and warn her of this."

"I also don't want her getting closer to that armor… it is most likely the third part of that asshole," Rain said.

"What are you talking about?" Seara asked while frowning.

"I will explain later… I guess I will have to get rid of him before he can do anything," Rain said while thinking how he could do that. "I can't use my usual tricks and my techniques will reveal who I am… I will have to improvise before the next attack."

Seara left to help the injured move to another area and at the same time, Rain confirmed that Nigel was bothering him. He could tell that Rain wasn't busy anymore and he also could feel his armor nearby.

"... What do you want?" Rain asked when he appeared in his mental landscape. "You would better say something useful for a change."
