Chapter 186: First Meeting Again (2)

Days passed, and the day of the annual guild convention finally arrived.

[You’ll come with us?] A voice came from the terminal.

"Yeah, let me hitch to your group again." Rise stood in front of the mirror, brushing his silver hair and adjusting his suit.

[Suddenly? You don’t like attending events. Wait... huh? Yeah, I’m talking to Rise.] Someone was saying something at the end. [Shut up for a moment. Sorry, Rise, Alphen’s pissed off you ignored his gate raid invite.]

Rise laughed mockingly. "I’m busy, don’t have time to babysit." He heard a hard curse, making him laugh harder. He ignored the annoying one and returned the topic to what he was saying.

"I got news, something exciting is going to happen this year." He smirked, "Of course, I have to be there."

Captain Nikolai, on the other end, and the others found that this made sense. Normally, Rise only attends events he deems exciting; if not, he would rather do some gate raids.

"Okay, sure."

Hearing the positive reply, Rise hung up. Attending without invitation was possible; he was shameless enough to do that. However, he preferred to go without much fuss.

"Ask the uncle secretary if you want anything, okay?"

Riri nodded obediently, earning a pat on his head.

Their place was not far from the venue, and Rise only needed to walk to get there. He did not bother observing the place or the attendees, as he had done the same thing last time.

His whole attention was on his meeting with Kamille. For the record, he already got the news of the other’s arrival. Strangely enough, he was alone. This had never happened before, since even if he was not with other members, Hayes always accompanied him.

Rise thought it was extremely weird, but deciding not to follow the flow of the plot, he was forced to just accept it. Changes would become his reliable companion from now on.

Still, this would make Kamille an odd one out. Almost all of the guilds brought most of their elite members, considering the agenda of this year was different from the normal gathering.

His expression could not help but be twisted, thinking of others who might be talking trash to his guild leader behind his back. Unfortunately, he could not be able to stand by his side as his guild member now.

"Rise!" A call disrupted him from his thoughts, prompting him to look in the direction of the sound. His gaze landed on three men, one in the middle waving his hand at him.

He walked over to their group, who were still wearing their combat suit.

"Hmph," someone snorted, "What’s with you, wearing a suit?"

Rise did not become annoyed, and instead, he even straightened his posture and pose. His appearance was already mindblowing, and if he dressed elegantly, then he was truly like a prince, albeit a villain one.

"You jealous, Alphen?" His brow shot up, lips forming a mocking smile.

Alphen’s mouth opened, about to retort, but he could not respond with an insult because... because that was true! Damn, he was so jealous of how good-looking Rise was.

In the end, he only rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.

Truly weak.

He sneered, eyes making eye contact with Yvez, who also laughed secretly. The two always found Alphen when he was pissed off funny, since he was always speechless for another retort.

"Now, stop bickering." Captain Nikolai finally had enough and looked at Rise seriously. "What do you know, Rise?"

Rise also put down his smile and stood by their side as they began walking towards the venue. "Maybe, not enough. Tell me more."

This time, he was still a Union member, and the team was already used to each other. Although it had been years since Rise actually teamed up with them, for the three, it was still fresh.

So they treated him without any suspicions or anything, like a comrade would. And told him what they knew. In fact, there was not much difference from last time.

"So, will you come with us?" Captain Nikolai offered. The other two showed anticipation. Rise’s personality was not good, but on the battlefield, he was very reliable. No one would question that in the Union.

By this time, they were already in the venue, and Rise’s mind was not on them. His eyes swept throughout the whole space, searching for someone.

He gave a halfhearted shrug and answer. "We’ll see."

Rise did not even bother hearing Alphen’s annoying voice, probably cursing him again. His mind was only focused on one thing: finding Kamille!

A few minutes later, he frowned. Huh? Guild Leader’s still not here?

"Who are you looking for?" Yvez’s calming tone whispered.

"Just... someone." Rise licked his lips and looked at the door. Maybe he had yet to come inside. Of course, that was the only possibility.

"Someone offended you?" Alphen chimed in. When Rise looked at him, he averted his gaze and focused on the wine in his hand. He grabbed at the passing waiter.

He was not in the mood for jokes. The tension around Rise was so intense that he felt his hand sweating. Perhaps, it also now showed in his face that no one bothered him after that.

Captain Nikolai offered him a glass of wine, and he took it. Rise did not immediately take a sip, only playing with the glass while waiting, eyes stuck on the door.

He was so focused on waiting that he did not even notice that a lot of the newly arrived were startled by his gaze. Rise truly looks terrifying right now. Especially so as disappointment twitched on his lips, every time the people walking in that door were not the ones he was waiting for.

They thought someone had offended him, and so everyone was now tense as well, fearing it was them. But really, Rise was only nervous and wanted to see someone’s face he so missed.

The three with him had long stopped bothering him and engaged in a conversation at the side. And as time passed, the grim look on his face further enhanced.

His heart sank. What the hell? The party was almost halfway done, and the man was still not here.

Don’t tell me, he’s not attending this party?

Rise’s face paled at the possibility that this was high!

He swallowed and looked at the wine in his hands, downing it in one gulp, and he released a heavy sigh. Putting down the glass on the small table on his side, he looked at the three.

"I’ll go outside a bit."

He did not even hear what their reply was; he did not need any permission to leave. Rise loosened his tie, and it became skewed. He blew a frustrated sigh and walked faster.

You don’t want to show up, huh? Then, I’ll come to you.
