Chapter 181: Reset (2)

Seeing the familiar dorm room he had in the Union, upon waking up, Rise remained silent. He did not have an excessive reaction; he calmly sat up and looked at the window.

The silence stretched for a few minutes before a deep sigh sounded.

"So, I’m not going crazy, huh?" Rise brushed his face and his hair before deciding to get up and go to the bathroom.

Maybe it had yet to sink in, or Rise truly was taking all this better than he had thought. Of course, getting frustrated was there. Rise just could not ponder about it yet, with only waking up.

When he first returned here after his death, Rise immediately went out and confirmed his state. This time, he was far too calm. Somehow, this state also made him unfamiliar, but what could he do?

This was already a situation he could not reverse, and the decision he personally made. It gave the impression of a calm before the storm, or perhaps it was indeed the case.

After washing up, he ordered breakfast to be delivered to his room through the intercom. Usually, Rise was not using this feature even though a lot of people encouraged him to do so before. There was no better opportunity to use this when he did not have the time to interact with others.

While waiting, he took his terminal device, which was rarely used. In a serious expression, he fiddled with it, and a hologram immediately appeared in front of him.

Rise straightened his posture, but his expression turned emotional. He moved, and his hand reached out, touching that face he so longed for and loved. But in the end, he stopped and retracted his hand midway.

A surge of bitter feeling bubbled inside of him, and his lips shivered and he subconsicouly bit them harshly, until he tasted iron.

"Guild Leader..." He called in a silent plea. As if wanting to explain himself and to seek forgiveness.

Rise could not help but feel guilty. He never asks for the other’s opinion, and in that situation, while it flashed across in his mind, it was completely disregarded.

Even if he did ask Kamille... what would that do? It was not like something would change since the other would not remember him as the same. To spare him more pain of having to start over, he chose to quietly reset everything.

The item was too difficult to pass up, Kamille, even if it was of past resets knew him so well. Rise was indeed reckless, but he took his mission seriously.

The room’s darkness, which was only the light coming from the terminal, turned more gloomy.

Staring at that handsome face, he could not help but lick his lips. Damn it. Rise shut his eyes. Seriously, this reset was harder because he already experienced making love with him!

Yet now, he was the only one remembering it, and they were back to square one made him so mad. Lamenting with this bad luck, he could only console himself that at least he would not be treading so blindly and cautiously this time around.

Looking at recent articles, even if he already knew that, Rise still meticulously did his part. He only paused when the doorbell chimed, and his breakfast arrived.

When he arrived at the front door, there was no one there anymore, and only his meal was left behind. Rise could not help but smile at that and looked at the elevator, which only just closed.

"I’m really back." Of course, there were no signs of nostalgia in his tone.

The entire morning, he just browsed through the terminal and confirmed that the evolving gates were being raided once more. This time around, Rise had no intention to go and help.

No matter how his feet were itching to go, he stopped himself. If he did, then this reset was useless. He was not going to be a Dark Crimson Guild member this time. He hated the fact, but that was the first step.

"1 week." He murmured across the silent room. He would give himself enough room to distance himself from Kamille before he would act to make an appearance again.

What was he going to do? He would plan that later. For now, he needed to wait for Kamille to return victorious. And during the waiting time, Rise had no intention to remain idle.

He needed to fetch someone first.

Rise looked up and draped the cloak firmly over his figure. While this could make him suspicious, it was not illegal to do so. Unless it was a gate with utmost importance, the Union officials would not scrutinize the Espers too much. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

As long as the Esper could show his registration card and was confirmed, then he was free to go.

Sure enough, after checking his card and confirming it was legitimate, the official let Rise be part of the roster.

How easy. Rise smirked. This was how wild Espers could get away sometimes. These officials did not care at all. For them, this post might be the easiest but the most annoying and not worth the effort. After all, it was only a B-rank gate.

The waiting time was not long. And so, Rise got away with a fake identity and was permitted inside. After entering the gate, he did not even hear the nonsense of the others to team up, and he already set off on his own.

He ignored the curses at him and quickly made his way through his memory. Along the way, he also killed monsters, but that was not his priority.

"Hopefully, he’s there." Rise almost wished. After all, this was also a few weeks early. Still, the number of gates to pass was annoying.

Even so, Rise continued without much thought. He did not even count how many gates he entered, but he knew that it was bigger than the last time.

To the point, he almost sighed in relief when the familiar scenery appeared. Rise immediately jumped at the position in his memory, and the ugly monsters attacked him, but they could only helplessly collapse on the ground without even managing to get near him.

Soon, he stopped. Rise took a shaky breath and pursed his lips. He almost called the name he imposed on this little monster, but he bit on them in the end.

This little monster could not possibly remember. And yet when the familiar face looked up to him, and the four eyes made eye contact with his own, Rise held his breath.

Stunned, the little monster who was huddling in the corner suddenly cried. He then ran until he was already hugging Rise’s legs. He sniffled, and the hug became tighter.

Rise’s jaw dropped, his eyes widened, and he looked down. He did not expect this. Suddenly, he realized... Wait.

"Riri?" He called, cautious. And his hand touched the little monster’s hair carefully.

Sniffling, Riri looked up and, with tears in his eyes, nodded.

"Ri...se..." He called pitifully.

What the hell? He remembered?
