Immortal In A Death Game-Chapter 149: Wings For You, Wings For Me
[The Administrators have granted you a gift, Adam the Endless.]
[The Administrator, Mikhail, says you do not need to offer any gratitude as they do not need it.]
[The other Administrators are saying that the only thing Mikhail needed was his eye back.]
[The Administrator, Mikhail, does not appreciate the other Administrators’ sentiments.]
[The Administrators...]
Adam was bombarded by more than a dozen messages from the Administrators. He thought that he already had his brain full just with his own voice and thoughts alone... but now these Administrators were sharing that space.
He didn’t appreciate that at all, not at all. But of course, what he truly didn’t appreciate was this so-called gift of theirs.
A Leak.
The crimson tear in reality pulsed wider, its jagged edges crackling with malevolent energy. People scattered in every direction, their screams mixing with the sound of dropping tools and debris as they panicked.
And just like that, the area they painstakingly cleaned for an hour was in chaos again. And soon, this chaos became even wilder as Adam watched the first creature emerge from the Leak—it was small compared to every creature he’d faced so far, almost as small as him.
It did, however, look the weirdest. It was a skeletal dragon-like beast with translucent wings that revealed dark veins beneath the skin. Its amber eyes locked onto the fleeing crowd as it released a bone-chilling shriek.
Red Leak. The same one you cleared back in France, Adam. The only difference is... is that this one’s fully uncontrolled. Uh oh.
Adam hasn’t had his orientation as a Hero yet, but he knew enough that once a Leak appears, monsters would pour out in waves and they had to be neutralized until it stabilizes.
This was fine, however, as most monsters stayed close to the portal, finding comfort in its familiar energy. This also somewhat prevented the monsters from roaming everywhere—unfortunately, sometimes, the Leak appears where humans were.
And unfortunately, that was the case now. It was just... rotten luck that hundreds of people happened to be here.
No. You did this, Adam. These gods are toying with you—and these people are victims of that. You should—I know. I know. It—
Adam’s thoughts were cut off as a monster flapped its wings and suddenly dove toward a group of volunteers, its beak-like mouth opening to reveal rows of needle-sharp teeth.
Adam didn’t hesitate at all. He sprinted forward, leaping over debris. The creature’s claws raked across a woman’s back, sending her tumbling into the dirt.
"Hey!"
The monster turned its amber gaze toward Adam as he screamed, only to meet the large chunk of concrete he hurled right at its head. The monster shrieked and pulled back, its wings beating frantically as it seemed to be confused about what just happened.
Adam, however, lunged toward it and kicked its skinny body with his knee, further pushing it back. He checked the injured woman first, and when he was sure the woman could still move, he turned his focus back to the monster.
Wings... again.
Adam groaned as he suddenly remembered the Berserk Fairy. That wasn’t an experience he wanted to repeat... and yet here he was again, in front of a winged monster. At least this one wouldn’t seem to curse at him every two seconds.
The monster didn’t seem to be that hurt by Adam’s attack, no. It flapped its wings again, but before it could dive, attack, or do anything else... Adam lunged toward it and grabbed both of its thin legs.
The beast thrashed wildly, trying to shake him loose. Adam gritted his teeth as they quickly left the ground—but unlike with the Berserk Fairy, Adam had no reservations at all. He lifted himself up, positioning himself upside down as he practically hugged the creature’s legs.
And with a breath, he tightened his hold and pulled.
The monster’s skinny legs snapped across the joints, and it began to lose control.
They crashed to the ground together. Adam rolled away as the wounded creature tried to bite him, its beak leaving gouges in the concrete where his head had been.
He went behind it and grabbed its legs again, and this time, he lifted it up and swung it like a bat, smashing it down on the concrete.
And when it still moved, he swung it again, this time at the side of a building, shaving off whatever was left from its walls.
And then, with a final swing, the monster’s eyes landed right through a sharp rebar.
Fortunately, that seemed to stop it.
Look at that, Adam. You know what could’ve helped you kill this monster easily? That’s right, your sword. If someone didn’t play hero, you would still have the Shion. It—Ugh, not again.
Adam couldn’t even mock himself as another shriek echoed from the Leak... then another.
Two more monsters emerged from the portal. Their translucent wings caught the light as they flapped their wings.
"Tch..." Adam spotted the coordinator’s golf cart nearby, and before the two could fly away, he grabbed the cart by the front bumper and threw it at them, managing to hit the nearest flying creature. The cart crumpled against the monster’s hide, but the impact barely fazed the monster.
It did get their attention, though.
Both creatures turned toward him, their eyes now locked onto him.
"That’s right..." Adam nodded, rushing toward the two, grabbing a metal pole with a concrete block still attached to one end on the way. And with another deep breath, he spun around and swung it at the monster moving toward him.
The concrete block shattered against the creature’s skull. But once again, the monster only flinched and shook its head, more annoyed than injured.
But that wasn’t really Adam’s plan of attack at all, no—with the pole now clean, he drove its jagged end straight into the monster’s eye. The monster shrieked, but Adam twisted and turned the pole inside its head. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Kh!" Adam lost strength with his right hand, however, as the second creature’s beak clamped down on his torso... tight. Tight enough that its teeth punched through his ribs, and he felt his spine crack and his flesh tear apart.
"G-Get off him!"
And then, out of nowhere, Derek appeared, leaping onto the creature’s back to help him.
"You—"
"Kill it, Schizo! Fucking kill it!"
