I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 214: Fallen Land
Leo was limping as he dragged his body away, even as a trail of blood was left behind.
He eventually slowed down and looked back, ensuring that he wasn’t being followed.
With a painful groan, he sat down with his back resting against the wall. With a pale face, he tore off a piece of his robe, and tied it around his wound firmly, trying to stop the bleeding at least.
"Damn it," Leo cursed through gritted teeth, letting his head drop back against the cold, unyielding surface of the wall.
He closed his eyes for a brief second, forcing his racing heart to slow down. Panic was a luxury he couldn’t afford right now. He needed to think.
Opening his eyes, he surveyed his surroundings.
The passageway was old, and there were strange lines that were covering the walls like it was some ancient circuit.
Small specks of lights could be seen traveling through the circuits occasionally like it was alive.
"Of all the things to lose, it had to be my spatial ring. Am I really screwed this time?" Leo mumbled, looking at his fingers.
The band that usually had two rings, had none now. Not only was the storage ring gone, but even the protective ring was gone.
He didn’t even know when or how he lost them. They were just gone, when he fell in this trap.
It was supposed to be a short vacation to a relatively younger planet. It was the planet which hadn’t even joined the ranks of a low tier planet.
It was also the frozen planet where he had spent some time in the past. He thought that he was going to spend some time here, working from home to avoid Yang and the others.
He was going to return after everything was normal. Unfortunately, the moment he stepped into the villa where he had spent quite a few days, he noticed something strange.
The planet which was not even a low tier planet, suddenly had a strange energy signature which was stronger than a new low tier planet.
He didn’t really think much about it, since it was normal for the planets to evolve. However, what made him really intrigued was that he could see signs of infiltration in his villa.
He had always thought that the planet did not have any life. After all, it was one shrouded in the blanket of darkness. So how could any life even survive in this place?
For a planet below low tier, it was also impossible to give birth to super humans, so it made their survival even more unlikely.
At least that’s what he thought when he had returned. But the window of his villa which he didn’t legally own, was shattered.
His initial thought was that it might be a beast. But how strong could a beast of a low tier planet even be? It was probably no difference from a stray animal, he had thought.
"Stray animal, my ass." Leo mumbled, cursing his stupidity. "I should have left right away. Screw the vacation."
Instead of turning around, he thought he was invincible. After all, he had the products of Alpha Labs. He also had a ship hovering above the mansion that could recall him back.
More importantly, he had the storage ring which was filled with modern weapons that even he could use. And if anything went wrong, he had the wing from the Ancient House of Seraphim which could save his life.
With such confidence, he felt like he was invincible when he entered the mansion, carrying a plasma gun in his band.
After all, the villa wasn’t half bad. And since he was already here, he didn’t want to cut his vacation short.
"Why was I so foolish? I should’ve known that something was really wrong, especially when I saw humans..."
Forcing himself upright, he leaned heavily against the wall, taking the weight off his right leg.
He didn’t have his communications grid, he was cut off from his usual arsenal, and he was running entirely on borrowed time. But he was still Leo Vanderlen, and he hadn’t built Alpha Corp by rolling over and dying in the dark.
Fortunately, the trail of blood wasn’t as heavy anymore. Couldn’t say the same about his pain.
"Alright," he whispered to the empty corridor. "Let’s see how badly you want this."
As he dragged his body, he kept remembering the past, remembering so many things he could have done differently.
After all, he should’ve realized that something was wrong when he saw humans inside the villa, instead of any stray animal that might have rushed inside.
The people were sitting on the couch while others were in the kitchen, working.
At the sight of humans in this godforsaken planet, Leo was taken aback.
"There are humans here?" He asked, subconsciously lowering his weapon.
He called out to them, only to see their eyes turn hostile.
"Can you understand my language?" Leo called out, raising his hand to gesture that he wasn’t a threat.
He didn’t want to scare the people that survived in this land for so long. After all, they were also victims of this place.
He even thought that he might be able to learn more about this planet from them since it intrigued him.
It was one of the few low tier planets that wasn’t in the database of the Union after all. Which meant the planet wasn’t explored in a long time.
The man who seemed to be the leader of the group, dragged his knife out, looking worried as well.
He said something in a language that Leo couldn’t recognise.
Even though Leo could recognise most languages using a translator, this language wasn’t recognised even by the translator.
It was like the language only belonged to this planet, and was in its very preliminary form, not recognisable enough.
"I can’t understand you either." Leo scratched the back of his head, wondering how he should deal with it.
"Maybe I should bring someone from the Labs to do a proper analysis of their language? Wasn’t Piccolo extremely interested in the field of languages? This might keep him engaged."
Leo thought of Piccolo, as he wondered if he should contact that man.
However, just then, he felt something hitting the back of his head. The attack was heavy, to the point that it almost knocked him out.
Fortunately, it wasn’t enough to kill him.
Feeling the heavy pain on the back of his head, he fell forward, the gun falling from his head due to the impact.
Just then, someone rushed forward, and took his gun, looking at him like they had seen something like this for the first time.
Meanwhile, Leo felt his vision blur, as he passed out after being hit again on the back of his head.
The last thing he saw was the leader of the group saying something incomprehensible.
Leo didn’t know how long it had been since he was passed out. However, when he came back to his senses, he could out that his hands were tied behind his back, and his body was being carried away.
He was still in the frozen lands, but not inside the villa. He didn’t even know exactly which part of this planet he was in.
"Can you stop?! I meant you no harm! If anything, I can help you! Can you even understand?"
Leo tried struggling, unfortunately, it was useless.
His resistance was also not as long lasting as his plasma cannon was fired by the leader of the group, missing him intentionally.
It was like a warning that if he didn’t stop, the next shot wasn’t going to miss.
Leo was stunned. These people understood how to use the gun in such a short time? After all, it wasn’t an ordinary gun. Even the safety locks worked differently on this gun.
"Where are you talking me? If you want ransom, I can give you as much as you want. And if you’re cannibals, I can give you better food! Let me go!"
Leo asked, but his words fell on deaf ears.
The group only stopped after they reached what appeared like the edge of the cliff.
While Leo had stopped resisting, he hadn’t stopped trying to free himself. After the last time he was kidnapped and shackled, he had already prepared for something like this.
He always carried a special dagger that was tied around his wrist, albeit covered with human-like skin to make it undistinguishable.
Although it took some time, he managed to get a hold of that dagger and had already started cutting the shackles without being detected.
The moment that the group reached the edge of the cliff, was also the moment that he had managed to cut off the chains.
He immediately pushed his body aside, surprising the group.
Before he could be attached again, he twisted his body and walked around the closest person he could find.
He placed the dagger on the back of a girl, warning them, "Stop right now!"
