Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 79: You Are Not Selina Nathan
Sharon Quincy’s grip on her phone tightened. She was silent for a long moment.
But since Linden Nathan had asked, she couldn’t just pretend nothing had happened.
"At first, he thought I was Miss Selina Nathan, but I confessed to him later, and he said he could accept it..."
Hearing this, Linden Nathan breathed a sigh of relief and chuckled. "The fact that he’s still willing to marry into our family after learning your identity shows he’s a decent man. Sharon, tell him I’ll recognize you as my goddaughter. If he agrees to marry in, he’ll be considered one of the Nathan family, and I’ll give you both a generous wedding gift."
"Thank you, Dad..." Sharon Quincy was overjoyed that Linden Nathan had agreed to the arrangement.
As long as she had Linden Nathan’s official approval, all she had to do was tell Damian Hawthorne, and the matter would be settled.
All Damian Hawthorne wanted was to marry into the Nathan family.
Even though she wasn’t his biological daughter, Linden Nathan was willing to recognize her as his goddaughter, which still made her a daughter of the Nathan family.
Even if the Hawthorne Family found out later, they wouldn’t have much to say about it.
The corners of Sharon Quincy’s mouth turned up uncontrollably. Suddenly, she felt a gaze fixed on her.
Sharon Quincy looked up to see Cecilia Nathan standing not far from her.
Cecilia Nathan was watching her with great interest.
Sharon Quincy’s heart tightened.
She gauged the distance between them, her heart pounding violently.
’Cecilia couldn’t have overheard my conversation with Linden Nathan, could she?’
Sharon Quincy couldn’t help but size up Cecilia Nathan.
She wore a long dress with a fluffy little cardigan. The soft fuzz around the neckline framed her small face, making her look elegant and ethereal.
Sharon Quincy had to admit, Cecilia Nathan was breathtakingly beautiful.
Each of her features was nearly perfect on its own, and together they created a harmonious whole. It was a combination of intellect and glamour that made it impossible to look away.
No wonder Cecilia Nathan and Damian Hawthorne had been entangled for so long.
In terms of looks, they were certainly well-matched.
"Miss Cecilia Nathan, long time no see." Sharon Quincy put away her phone and walked toward her. "Are you here to see Mr. Hawthorne?"
Cecilia Nathan scoffed sarcastically, "Didn’t we just see each other a couple of days ago? You may have forgotten about the kidnapping, but I certainly haven’t."
"Kidnapping? What kidnapping?" Sharon Quincy covered her mouth in feigned surprise. "What are you talking about? How could you call that kidnapping? I was just playing around with you."
Even if it was kidnapping, Sharon Quincy wasn’t about to admit it.
"It’s fine if you don’t admit it. Actions always leave a trail of evidence." Cecilia Nathan smiled faintly, a sly glint in her eyes. "I just never expected someone of your status would dare to do something like this."
"Why wouldn’t I dare? Look, even after I did something like that, Mr. Hawthorne still agreed to marry me."
Cecilia Nathan’s brows furrowed slightly.
’Damian Hawthorne agreed to marry her?’
’Doesn’t he like Ashley Sutton? Didn’t he propose to her? Why would he agree to marry this impostor?’
"And what does that prove?" Sharon Quincy leaned in closer, gloating, "It proves that status is everything. Even if I do bad things, my family background and my status can still protect me. As for you... you were lucky nothing happened to you those few days. But you might not be so lucky next time."
Sharon Quincy’s words were laden with hidden meaning and a veiled threat.
"Are you sure Damian Hawthorne is marrying you, and not the eldest daughter of the Nathan family?" Cecilia Nathan smiled knowingly, feeling that Sharon Quincy was behaving like a pathetic clown.
’If Father knew the person he’d sponsored was this depraved, he’d regret it until his dying day.’
Cecilia Nathan’s words made Sharon Quincy’s eyelid twitch violently.
"It doesn’t matter if he’s marrying me or my status. What matters is that he would never, ever marry you. After all, you have no status, no position, and you can’t help him in any way. Doesn’t that say it all?"
"Cecilia, you’re an orphan. Besides the pretty face you were born with, you’re worthless." Sharon Quincy crossed her arms, looking Cecilia up and down with smug and unbridled disdain. "Look at you. You’ve been Damian Hawthorne’s little bootlicker for so long, and in the end, you still have nothing."
"Is that so...?" Cecilia Nathan couldn’t help but laugh out loud. "And you? What do you have?"
"You’re not the eldest daughter of the Nathan family at all, so what right do you have to laugh at me?"
Sharon Quincy’s smile froze on her face. "What do you mean by that?"
"You’re not Selina Nathan. Your name is... Sharon Quincy." Cecilia Nathan gave her a sidelong glance, her lips curving into a captivating smile.
"Did Finn Hawthorne tell you that?" Sharon Quincy’s expression turned frigid. "We’re like fire and water now. You’d believe the lies he’s making up?"
"If I’m not Selina Nathan, then who is? You?"
Just then, Sharon Quincy’s phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she glanced at Cecilia Nathan and stepped aside as she answered the call.
It was the most famous private investigator in Korsyth, whom she had hired at a high price.
Because she was suspicious of Cecilia Nathan’s identity, Sharon Quincy had spent a fortune hiring him.
The Nathan family’s bodyguards could have also investigated, but she didn’t dare ask them to.
If they found out that Cecilia Nathan was truly part of the Nathan family, her life would become miserable.
If someone else made the discovery, she might still have a chance to fix things.
At this thought, Sharon Quincy took a deep breath and asked in a trembling voice, "What did you find?"
"I’ve found some information, but I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for."
"Get to the point." Sharon Quincy’s hand was shaking uncontrollably.
"This Cecilia Nathan is an orphan, and her life story from childhood to now is fully documented. But I checked the timeline—it’s too clear and complete. So complete that it looks like a fake file."
Before the investigator could finish, Sharon Quincy sneered, "An orphan with a complete file—there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, that’s exactly who she is."
The person on the other end seemed to want to say more, but in the end, they just stammered a bit and didn’t raise any objections.
Afraid that Cecilia Nathan might overhear, Sharon Quincy asked a few more simple questions. After confirming that Cecilia had no connection to the Nathan Family of Aethelgard, she let out a long sigh of relief.
At first, she had been afraid that Cecilia Nathan was actually Selina Nathan, but now it seemed she had been worrying for nothing.
As for the investigator’s warning, Sharon Quincy dismissed it as nothing.
As long as Cecilia Nathan wasn’t Selina Nathan, everything was fine.
After hanging up, Sharon Quincy swayed gracefully over to Cecilia Nathan, a smug smile playing on her lips. "It doesn’t matter who you say I am. No matter how bad I might be, I’m still better than a parentless nobody like you."
Cecilia Nathan smiled faintly. She was just about to reveal her identity when she saw the person behind Sharon Quincy. Her lips parted, but in the end, she held her tongue.
"You say I’m not Selina Nathan. Besides what Finn Hawthorne told you, do you have any other evidence?"
Sharon Quincy, unaware that someone was standing behind her, tried to coax more information out of Cecilia to see how much she really knew.
Frances Bennett was walking toward Sharon Quincy when she heard this, and her expression changed slightly.
’Not Selina Nathan?’
’What does that mean?’
Afraid that this marriage might encounter another setback, Frances Bennett couldn’t help but quicken her pace to stand before Sharon Quincy. "Miss Selina Nathan, you just said you aren’t Selina Nathan... What is going on?"
