Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Damian Hawthorne’s Dominance

Miles Sinclair remained silent. In the darkness, his features were as perfect as if sculpted. The corners of his mouth naturally tilted upward, making him seem as radiant as the sun despite being shrouded in night.

"Gene, the paparazzi are everywhere. Stop talking," someone else added.

Just as Miles Sinclair was about to explain, a sudden loud noise silenced the surroundings.

"What was that sound?"

A moment later, several bodyguards in black suits rushed out of the stairwell of another building.

"Quick, she escaped!"

"After her!"

Seeing the men charge out, Miles Sinclair’s agent and bodyguards quickly shielded him, afraid their client would be knocked over.

"Get out of the way! Don’t block us!"

The bodyguards skirted around them and gave chase.

"Are they crazy?!" the one called Gene couldn’t help but curse.

Miles Sinclair looked up at the lit windows on the second and third floors, lost in thought.

Meanwhile, Cecilia Nathan had made her way from the second floor down to the first.

"This door isn’t for public use." Hugo Grant’s voice was gentle and reassuring. "They won’t find this place."

Seeing Cecilia limping, Hugo Grant’s expression hardened. "Your foot is injured?!"

"I wasn’t careful when I jumped." Cecilia gave a helpless smile. "I was probably sitting in that place for too long, so my body isn’t used to moving."

Being locked in a room with limited space to move would naturally make one’s body stiff.

A murderous intent flickered across Hugo Grant’s cold face. "Don’t worry, I will find out who kidnapped you."

Cecilia felt a slight headache coming on.

’If it were anyone else, it would be fine, but Sharon Quincy did this in my name.’

’If this gets exposed, the entire Nathan Family will be implicated.’

’While she wanted to teach Sharon Quincy a lesson, now wasn’t the time.’

"Forget it. It was a few acquaintances." Cecilia paused. "It’s just a personal grudge. That person did this because they’re unhappy with me. There was no real harm done."

Hearing her say that, Hugo Grant finally let out a sigh of relief.

After helping her walk for a short distance, Hugo Grant suddenly crouched down in front of her.

Cecilia froze. "Hugo Grant, what are you..."

"Get on. Those men will be here any minute. The most important thing right now is to leave."

Cecilia stared at Hugo Grant’s broad back, unmoving for a long time.

Just then, a "TSK" sounded in the night.

Not far away, Damian Hawthorne was holding his phone, using the flashlight to light up the path.

He leaned against a nearby utility pole, legs crossed, the corners of his lips curved into a sarcastic smile.

Serena Hughes stood beside him, clinging to his arm meekly.

Upon seeing Damian Hawthorne, Hugo Grant didn’t get up, only turning his head slightly.

Cecilia frowned. ’My ankle is sprained,’ she thought. ’I might just slow him down.’

Just as she was about to bend her knees, Damian Hawthorne strode over and grabbed her.

"Damian, what are you doing?" Hugo Grant’s voice was laced with faint displeasure.

Damian Hawthorne didn’t even look at him, his languid gaze fixed on Cecilia. "When are you going to treat me to that meal you owe me?"

"When..."

"No time to wait. We’re starting today." After speaking, Damian Hawthorne glanced at her leg and swept her up into his arms.

The world spun around her, and Cecilia’s whole body went rigid.

When she came to her senses, Cecilia pushed hard against his chest. "Damian Hawthorne, let me go."

She kept her voice low, afraid someone else might see them in the dark.

Seeing this, Serena Hughes trembled with rage, her eyes practically bulging out of her head.

"Mr. Hawthorne..." Serena Hughes began, anxiously trying to dissuade him.

"Damian..."

"She still owes me something." Damian Hawthorne’s arms were strong, holding Cecilia tightly. He took a few steps and opened his car door.

Just as Cecilia’s anger was about to erupt, Damian Hawthorne tossed her into the car and quickly slammed the door shut.

Damian Hawthorne got into the car and waved at Hugo Grant. "Thanks."

With that, he slammed on the accelerator, and the car sped away.

Just then, another car passed by them.

Miles Sinclair rolled down the window and glanced to the side. As if sensing something, he paused for a moment.

Before he could process it, the car was already far away.

"What are you looking at?" his agent asked.

Miles Sinclair smiled faintly. "Nothing. I must have seen wrong."

「Hawthorne Estate.」

After Damian Hawthorne got out of the car, Serena Hughes followed him out.

If she hadn’t been sticking so close to Damian Hawthorne, she would have been left behind.

Damian Hawthorne produced a crutch from somewhere and tossed it to Cecilia. "Go to the kitchen. I’m hungry."

His tone was blunt and impolite.

Cecilia looked at the crutch and gave a helpless smile.

’I’ll just consider this repaying the life I owe Damian Hawthorne.’

Leaning on the crutch, Cecilia headed towards the kitchen. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"Remember to make enough for three," Damian Hawthorne added. "Serena hasn’t eaten either."

Cecilia’s hand on the crutch froze. She took a deep breath and, without looking back, walked into the kitchen.

Hearing Damian Hawthorne mention that she hadn’t eaten, a sweet feeling bloomed in Serena Hughes’s heart.

’At least Mr. Hawthorne still cares about me.’

Cecilia gritted her teeth against the sharp pain as she chopped vegetables in the kitchen.

Her foot had already swollen up, so Cecilia could only rinse it with cold water.

The kitchen door suddenly opened.

Serena Hughes walked in.

She first surveyed the kitchen, then, seeing Cecilia’s skillful chopping, she smiled. "Cecilia Nathan, you’re so capable, you can do anything. Not like me. My parents never let me in the kitchen growing up. They said girls should be pampered."

Cecilia’s hand, holding the knife, paused.

Seeing Cecilia remain silent, a surge of irritation rose in Serena Hughes. "Cecilia Nathan, you and that guy, Hugo... you two aren’t just friends, are you?"

"What are you trying to say?"

Serena Hughes crossed her arms, plopped down nonchalantly on a nearby chair, and smiled enigmatically. "I know that Hugo is a math genius."

Cecilia put down the kitchen knife and turned to face Serena Hughes.

"I also know... that you and that Hugo have a thing..."

It was obvious Serena Hughes was deliberately trying to provoke her.

And she had succeeded.

Cecilia took a deep breath, her heart aching as if it were being torn apart.

’If I hadn’t accidentally said Hugo’s name during that incident last time, this would have remained a secret buried in my heart forever.’

’I can’t believe Serena Hughes knows this much...’

"Don’t worry, I haven’t told Mr. Hawthorne any of this," Serena Hughes added at the perfect moment. "After all, Cecilia Nathan, you’re my teaching assistant. I have to give you some face."

Cecilia sneered.

’In Serena Hughes’s heart, Damian Hawthorne is always the most important thing.’

’Her keeping quiet is only to protect her own interests.’

"Where did you find out about Hugo?" Cecilia stared at her, her body trembling as she fought to suppress the anguish in her heart.

She had already spent a lot of money to bury everything about Hugo. Besides the Nathan Family, no one else should know.

So how on earth did Serena Hughes find out?

At this thought, Cecilia’s hands couldn’t stop shaking, and the pain in her heart was unbearable.

"I have my ways, of course." Serena Hughes just smiled, not answering her question directly.

Cecilia took a deep, shaky breath. "This time, what do you want to trade with me for?"
