Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 68: She Likes Hugo
"Hugo..." Damian Hawthorne’s voice was low, and he slowly chewed on the name.
The thought of Cecilia Nathan calling that name while she was unconscious stoked an uncontrollable rage within him.
Seeing his boss react this way, Justin Bell stammered, "President Hawthorne, that was just my speculation... It isn’t necessarily a fact."
He could tell that President Hawthorne was very bothered by this "Hugo" person.
Although he didn’t know Miss Cecilia Nathan’s relationship with Hugo, it was obvious that President Hawthorne was jealous.
Justin Bell sighed.
’In reality, President Hawthorne cares deeply for Miss Cecilia Nathan, but he just doesn’t realize it himself.’
’He could just imagine President Hawthorne going insane the day Miss Cecilia Nathan ended up with someone else.’
RING RING... The phone on Damian Hawthorne’s desk began to ring. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Damian Hawthorne answered and put it on speaker.
"President Hawthorne, Miss Serena Hughes is downstairs waiting for you. Should I bring her up?"
Damian Hawthorne frowned. He was about to refuse when the receptionist added, "She says she knows something about Hugo."
The hand Damian Hawthorne was holding the phone with froze, and his languid gaze instantly sharpened.
"Send her up."
...
Cecilia Nathan sat in Finn Hawthorne’s room, watching him slowly tidy things up.
"You can stay here for the next couple of days. It’s not big, nothing like the Hawthorne family villa, but... I keep it very clean." Finn Hawthorne ducked his head and rubbed the back of his neck, the tips of his ears turning red.
Cecilia Nathan looked around, then turned to him. "I can’t stay here. I need to make a trip home."
"Are you missing something? I can go get it for you." Finn Hawthorne let out a soft sigh. "Miss Cecilia Nathan, Selina Nathan’s bodyguards are outside this building. She won’t let you leave."
"Her name isn’t really Selina Nathan, is it?" Cecilia Nathan said with a smile, calling him out on it. "I’m not going back to my home in Korsyth. I’m going back to my family’s ancestral home."
"I haven’t seen my father in four years."
Cecilia Nathan’s voice grew distant.
She had texted him, but Linden Nathan hadn’t replied.
Before, whenever she texted him, Linden Nathan would reply immediately.
She suspected that something might have happened to Linden Nathan.
’And as for this imposter, I have to expose her true colors to my father.’
’If I’m not mistaken, that imposter is also planning to study abroad this year, with the Nathan family footing the enormous bill.’
’The Nathan family shouldn’t spend a single penny on such an ungrateful wretch.’
"I know you want to go back," Finn Hawthorne said, his gaze fixed on her. "But I’m worried you’ll be in danger if you go out. Why don’t you call that Damian Hawthorne guy to come get you? I can’t rest easy letting you go out on your own."
Hearing Finn Hawthorne’s words, Cecilia Nathan lowered her eyes and pressed her lips together.
Her dark eyes shone.
’Finn Hawthorne isn’t in league with her.’
"Do you know her name?"
"Sharon Quincy." Finn Hawthorne didn’t hide it from her.
’For some reason, the moment he looked into Cecilia’s eyes, he couldn’t help but tell the truth.’
’He and Sharon Quincy might be friends, but he didn’t want to lie to Cecilia.’
’When he’d first walked into that karaoke bar and the others started humiliating him, it had been Cecilia who stood up for him.’
’He didn’t want to upset Cecilia, and he certainly didn’t want to see her get hurt.’
"Aren’t you afraid Sharon Quincy will make trouble for you if she finds out you’re helping me?" Cecilia could tell that Finn Hawthorne and Sharon Quincy were close.
She didn’t know why he was helping her, but Cecilia finally breathed a sigh of relief.
’Sharon Quincy had wanted Finn Hawthorne to do something to me.’
’If Finn Hawthorne had really meant me harm, I would have been ruined.’
’Thankfully, Finn Hawthorne had no such intentions.’
"I’m an orphan. I don’t have anyone or anything I care about, so my life is cheap. Sharon Quincy is a schemer, but she wouldn’t dare do anything to me." Finn Hawthorne smirked. "She’s counting on continuing to play the part of the great young miss of the Nathan Family, after all!"
Hearing this, Cecilia Nathan looked up slightly. "Isn’t she afraid the Nathan family will find out what she’s doing?"
"And what if they do? No one knows if the real Miss Nathan is dead or alive. As long as the true Miss Nathan doesn’t appear, she can go on being Selina Nathan forever."
’So that’s how it is...’
Cecilia Nathan’s lips twisted into a sarcastic smile.
’So her father hadn’t sponsored a good student. He’d sponsored a truly ungrateful wretch.’
