Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 125: Enemies on a Narrow Road
"It’s just a gut feeling," Justin Bell said after a moment of thought. "President Hawthorne obviously likes her, but he won’t admit it."
"Loving someone doesn’t mean you have to possess them," Hugo Grant said, glancing at the photo. "But you’re right. Miles Sinclair is not a good match for her. They shouldn’t be together. At the very least, Cecilia needs to see his true colors."
...
Cecilia Nathan was in her music studio. She had been waiting for a customer, but as she waited, Hugo Grant arrived instead.
Hugo Grant was holding a bouquet, which he placed on a table in the main room before smiling at Cecilia Nathan. "Got a minute to talk?"
Cecilia Nathan smiled and nodded. "Of course."
After all, Hugo Grant had helped her so much, both practically and emotionally. They had long since become good friends.
"There’s something I want to discuss with you, and I just want you to listen," Hugo Grant said, his voice low. "Do you really know who Miles Sinclair is now?"
Cecilia Nathan froze for a moment.
"In your heart, is he still the Miles Sinclair from high school? If he’s changed, would you still love him?"
Hugo Grant’s voice was soft, like a breeze brushing past her ear, as clear and cool as a mountain spring.
Cecilia Nathan lowered her gaze. "Hugo’s car accident was because of me. As long as he’s alive, I won’t leave him."
"What if he’s fallen for someone else?"
Cecilia fell silent. She looked up, her lips parting in a slight smile. "You didn’t come here just to chat today, did you?"
’Hugo Grant wasn’t the type to meddle in other people’s business. For him to bring this up... even she wasn’t so dense that she couldn’t tell he was getting at something.’
"Nothing gets past you." Hugo Grant took out a stack of photos and handed them to Cecilia. "The photos themselves are likely authentic, but whether the relationship they depict is real, I can’t say."
Cecilia Nathan took the photos. Her hand trembled slightly as she saw the images.
"These photos... Where did you get them?"
"Damian gave them to me." Hugo Grant had no intention of covering for Damian Hawthorne.
Damian Hawthorne wanted to use him to warn Cecilia. He was willing to do it, but he wasn’t going to take the fall for him.
Sure enough, at the mention of Damian Hawthorne’s name, Cecilia’s face fell. "He’s having people follow Hugo."
Hugo Grant nodded. "He’s not the only one. I’ve also had people investigating Miles Sinclair."
"Cecilia, Damian said something that made a lot of sense. We won’t stop you from being with Miles Sinclair, but only on the condition that he’s a good person."
After looking through the photos, Cecilia slowly closed her eyes. "I understand. Thank you."
’In the photos, Hugo looked like he was refusing, but he also looked heartbroken.’
"You’re right. Hugo and I haven’t seen each other in years, after all. A lot has happened to both of us during that time, but the fact that he saved me back then will never change." Cecilia put down the photos, her composure returning in just a few seconds.
Cecilia gave a bitter smile.
’When Damian Hawthorne and Serena Hughes were together, she’d been heartbroken for days. But seeing Hugo like this, her first reaction wasn’t jealousy. It was a genuine wish for his happiness.’
"If this is real, I’ll wish Hugo the best."
Hugo Grant nodded. After a moment’s thought, he said, "Cecilia, you deserve a better man."
After he finished speaking, Hugo Grant looked at her intently. "I’ve said it before: if you’re willing, come to the Grant family. I’ll make you happy."
’Happiness...’
Cecilia thought of Hugo Grant’s mother—that elegant and gentle woman.
’If she married Hugo Grant, maybe she really would be happy.’
"Thank you, Hugo Grant."
...
A Land Rover pulled to a stop at the entrance of the Korsyth Film and Television Center.
"Miss Hughes, Mr. Sinclair is right inside."
Serena Hughes got out of the car. She glanced around, a slight smile playing on her lips.
’The last time she was here was for a music show audition. She’d even had a tense confrontation with Cecilia Nathan in the lobby. Who would’ve thought she’d be back again, this time to see Miles Sinclair.’
’She’d thought Miles Sinclair was dead. To think he was actually still alive.’
’This world really was insane.’
"Are you certain I’ll be able to see Miles Sinclair today?" Serena Hughes asked again.
’She had to see this Miles Sinclair with her own eyes. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to rest easy.’
’If Luna really is Cecilia, that means Cecilia went to Damian Hawthorne’s side not long after Miles Sinclair supposedly died.’
’Cecilia was so in love with Miles Sinclair. How could she turn around and fall for Damian Hawthorne?’
’There had to be a secret behind all this.’
"Of course, Miss Hughes. Ms. Fiona Sinclair is our Station Director’s great benefactor. If the director hadn’t been so busy lately, he would have paid her a visit long ago. Mr. Miles Sinclair is chatting with the director right now, so this is the perfect opportunity for you to meet him."
The Station Director’s assistant assumed Serena Hughes was just another starstruck fan and didn’t think anything more of it.
Miles Sinclair was the newest dark horse on the scene, rumored to have the potential to become an A-lister, a top-tier star. Plenty of rich young women were infatuated with him. In the few days Miles Sinclair had been in Korsyth, countless people had pulled strings to get a meeting. The director’s assistant was long past being surprised by it.
"Miss Hughes, let me show you the way up."
The director’s assistant had just led Serena Hughes upstairs when they ran into Chloe Sutton, who was on her way down, in the elevator.
The moment she saw Serena Hughes, Chloe Sutton’s brow furrowed.
"Chloe Sutton, what a coincidence. You’re here too."
Seeing the elegantly dressed Chloe Sutton, Serena Hughes stepped forward with a smile to greet her.
Chloe Sutton looked at Serena Hughes’s outstretched hand and snorted. "A coincidence? I don’t think so. ’Enemies are destined to cross paths,’ isn’t that how it goes?"
Chloe had learned from Cecilia long ago that it was Serena Hughes’s scheming that had nearly bankrupted her family.
If it hadn’t been for Serena Hughes, their family wouldn’t have suffered such an unmitigated disaster.
Serena Hughes shivered as she met Chloe’s resentful gaze.
’She thought about what her grandmother had done to the Sutton family.’
’But her grandmother had been so secretive. Chloe shouldn’t know the truth.’
"Chloe Sutton, there’s really no need for that," Serena Hughes said, her voice full of grievance. "I know you and Cecilia Nathan are good friends, but it’s not like I’ve gained anything from all this."
Seeing her act this way, the director’s assistant warned Chloe, "Miss Sutton, Miss Hughes is a guest of our Station Director."
The implication was clear: Serena Hughes had the Station Director’s protection.
Considering Serena Hughes’s current status, Chloe knew that saying anything more would be pointless.
’Right now, the Sutton family was indeed no match for the Sinclair family.’
The elevator arrived at the floor with the Station Director’s office. Serena Hughes and the assistant got off. Just as the doors were about to close, Chloe heard someone say the name "Miles Sinclair."
Chloe immediately remembered that Miles Sinclair was supposed to be on the director’s floor today.
’What does Serena Hughes want with Miles Sinclair?’
Chloe’s eyelid twitched. She quickly sent a message to Cecilia.
When Serena Hughes entered the Station Director’s office, the first thing she saw was Miles Sinclair, wearing sunglasses.
’He’s even more handsome in person than on TV. On-screen, he looks two-dimensional, but right now, he seems so real—like a manga character who’s just stepped out of the page.’
"Serena, come over here," the Station Director said, beaming as he waved her over. "Miles Sinclair is here. Did you have something you wanted to say to him?"
