The shades-wearing woman stared at this spectacle with a raised brow before staring down at her recovering partner. She held up her tablet and then spoke to the pair of students with an odd relationship.

"Before you go, you two have been assigned to Paragon for the rest of your time here."

Lillian tilted her head to the side before coming to a realisation.

"Paragon? Oh! You mean the top classroom, right?"

Lense nodded, "Correct. Do feel honoured that you get t—"

Derrick stared at her, "Do you need to say that last part? I find that we’re the ones that need to feel honoured to talk to the—"

SMACK!

"Argh!" Derrick clutched his face, "You’re a bad person, you know! Who the hell does this on a daily basis!?" he asked, staring at her through the gaps between his fingers.

Lens shrugged before pulling back her attention towards Lillian and Marionette, "You will, fortunately, be unable to retrieve anything from the room for a while, so you two can leave now if you would like. Unless, of course, you would like to be subjected to the horrific effect of—"

"Yeah… I think we’ll just go…" Lillian said in a defeated manner, garnering a satisfied nod from the woman. She then turned towards Marionette and tilted her head, gesturing to see if she was ready to go.

Marionette stared down at her phone, specifically at the time and found it to be quite late.

[20:02]

She frowned and then turned towards Lillian, noticing her wondering gaze and nodded, "Right now would be good. Tomorrow is indeed classes, correct?" she asked the woman.

The two stared at each other, almost as though they were engaging in a staring contest for some odd reason, before eventually, the woman nodded, "Yes. 9 in the morning. The room number has been sent to your email."

Once getting what she wanted to know, Marionette nodded stoically, walking past the woman followed by Lillian, who gave a short wave back to them.

Derrick waved back, noticing his partner’s gaze and groaning, "I’m just waving. Do you have to antagonise me?"

"I haven’t even done anything."

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Their coupled footsteps travelled down the moonlit corridor. As they walked, Lillian couldn’t help but feel a sneaking suspicion that Marionette was avoiding her a bit.

Not in the sense that she was distancing herself away but more in the sense that... she was avoiding making eye contact with her.

"Are you alright, Marionette? Has something soured your mood?" Lillian asked with a tilt.

"..."

In addition to her strange behaviour, she was also more quiet compared to how she was during their Trial.

Lillian held her chin in a thoughtful manner, pondering about Marionette’s sudden shift in personality.

She tapped at her chin—not realising that they had already reached the elevator.

Marionette pressed the button and folded her arms—keeping her gaze focused on the door.

Lillian raised an eyebrow, tilting her head towards her, "Hello...?"

Marionette still remained unresponsive—calmly waiting for the elevator to open.

And soon enough, it did.

Ding...!

The faint voice recording of the elevator murmured inside the closed doors before opening with a cold hiss.

The two swiftly got on, watching as the door closed and the elevator rose as Marionette tapped at "button 9".

"The ninth floor, huh?" Lillian asked, leaning her shoulder against Marionette’s left arm as she glanced around—ignorant of Marionette’s subtle jolt and stiffening.

Marionette slowly drifted her eyes towards Lillian, resting her head on her shoulder. She quickly tore her gaze away once Lillian tilted her face up.

"Sooo~... wanna tell me why you keep avoiding me?"

"..."

Lillian pouted before smirking, "Is this still about the kiss—"

"Don’t be ridiculous, Lillian. It’s just a mere... kiss..." Marionette answered, still with her face turned away.

Lillian grinned.

"Is that so~?"

Marionette felt an arm wrap around her waist, tightly pulling her body against Lillian’s.

She stared down with wide eyes, looking into Lillian’s teasing eyes as she felt her body get pulled in tighter.

Lillian stared at Marionette’s arms, which remained unresponsive—something that wouldn’t have happened in the Trial from what she gathered.

"Oh~? What’s this? Not bringing your arms around me this time even though I’m this close to you~? That doesn’t seem right. Are you sure you still aren’t affected by that kiss~?"

"... Would you like me to do that?"

"Huh?"

Over her sides and around the sides of her head, Lillian watched as Marionette brought her arms around her neck—caressing the back of her head and softly kneading it.

She then felt Marionette’s slender, cold hands stroke the back of her head and the sides of her face, brushing the tips of her fingers over her ears and clutching her cheeks.

She then stared at Marionette, deliberately leaning towards her face, pressing her forehead against hers.

"Listen here, Lillian. It’s only just us in the elevator. No cameras or surveillance devices can record our presence here..."

Lillian raised an eyebrow, sneaking a glance towards the upper corner of the elevator and staring at a black blob stuck to it.

Stretching from the blob was an ethereal black string that seemed to exist in both 3D and 2D at the same time as it crawled down the wall.

Her eyes then brought her to its origin—being the back of Marionette’s shoe.

’She blocked off the camera!’ Lillian widened her eyes, tensing at the warm air brushing against her face.

"And from what I remember... I’m still the stronger one of the two of us..." she said, stroking Lillian’s cheeks with her thumbs.

Lillian shuddered a bit at Marionette’s ominous tone.

What did she mean by that? Was she threatening her?

Marionette seemed to identify Lillian’s uncertainty in what she meant.

"I suppose I should get to the point then. All I am saying is that I can press you against any one of these walls and do whatever I want... and that includes kissing you, Lillian." she enunciated.

"And no one would know. No one would hear. Especially so at this time when most are getting ready for tomorrow’s classes, or they are out preparing..."

Lillian shivered at Marionette’s right hand, stroking her jawline with her fingers before grabbing her chin, keeping it facing up towards her.

Despite Lillian unconsciously wanting to back down under Marionette’s intense gaze, she decided not to out of pure curiosity about where this was headed.

"Eh? Well, it is obvious you can do that since you’re much stronger; kissing you is something I can still very much do—especially when you’re in kissing range~."

"Perhaps... but the question now is—are you going to do it?"

"I could ask you the same thing, Miss ’Strongest in the room’~."

Their eyes connected together like magnets—their faces merely inches apart from one another.

Their intimate staring contest eventually came to an end once...

Ding...!

"Door opening."

The elevator’s doors widened and revealed the floor they were on—being the ninth.

It looked like an exact replica of Lillian’s. A long, narrow corridor with occasional branches and a row of doors with numbers above them.

Lillian then turned back to Marionette once she felt her hands remove themselves from her face.

Marionette stared down at Lillian, unlatching the arm around her waist and gently lowering it back to Lillian’s side.

She then spoke in a stoic voice with a hint of warmth:

"A few months. That was what you said back in the Trial, yes? We will get to know each other like you said until the day when we eventually do it."

"... You still remember that. Huh? I suppose that is a good ide—what do you mean by eventually doing it?"

"... It seems we both have agreed," Marionette said, ignoring Lillian’s question and walking out of the open elevator.

Just before the elevator closed, Lillian managed to get out in time, soon following Marionette with desperate curiosity.

"You can’t be serious about leaving me on such a question, right? Those words of yours can be misunderstood, you know!"

Marionette raised an eyebrow at Lillian’s words.

"Like what exactly?" she asked, waving her hand dramatically in the air as she summoned her ID card into her hand.

Lillian watched as Marionette stood before the door that was titled "910" before continuing.

"Oh, come on. You definitely know."

Marionette turned back and stared at Lillian before having the corners of her lips curling up into a smile.

"Who knows..." she mumbled, walking into her room before asking, "Now then. Would you like to bathe first, or should I?"
