Marionette’s face hovered inches above Lillian’s. Her movements deliberate before pausing.

Her long black hair cascaded over the side, veiling them from the outside world from what may happen inside.

Her alluring floral scent wafted into Lillian’s nose, a lovely mix of roses and something darker, trapping her further under her sudden grasp.

"W-what are you..."

Marionette then leaned down next to Lillian’s left ear, softly brushing her lips against it.

Her warm breath blew into her ear, causing Lillian to shiver—stimulating her slightly. (2)

"Is this..." Marionette murmured, her voice deep and velvet, "... Bold enough?"

Lillian’s face blushed once more. She felt like her face would become permanently red at this rate, considering how many times it had happened. (8)

"B-bold... enough?" Lillian stammered in awe at what she had just heard. (8)

Marionette nodded, raising her head from Lillian’s ear before stopping over her face.

"Mhm... you did say "beauties" tend to prefer being around those who were bold with their actions... or something along those lines..." Marionette mumbled at the end—slightly inaudible.

Lillian’s eyes widened. (2)

Did this woman just imply that she was one of these beauties?

"Are you... perhaps calling me beautiful?" Lillian asked, her voice quiet but shy. (2)

Marionette remained quiet. Her intense and almost intimate stare caused Lillian to fidget slightly under it—heat seemingly creeping up her neck.

Steeling herself, Lillian stared back with false confidence. "W-well! If you want my opinion... I don’t think this is as nearly bold enough!" (8)

Marionette stared as Lillian stretched her lips into a playful smirk, winking at her. (18)

"Is that so..." she murmured—her eyes slightly narrowing.

Marionette then brought her right hand situated on the spot beside Lillian’s head and raised it towards her cheek.

Lillian shivered, feeling Marionette’s cold but at the same time warm hand softly holding her cheek, "Then I’ll be a little bit bolder..." before sliding down it. (2)

Marionette’s hand glided down Lillian’s cheek, caressing Lillian’s shoulder before staring at her torn blazer.

Her hand continued to lower, stroking Lillian’s arm before reaching her open hand.

Marionette then gently interlocked her fingers with Lillian’s, pulling them up so their hands rested beside Lillian’s reddened face. (8)

Lillian’s eyes seemed to swirl at what was going on, ’I’ve just lost all the confidence I just built up...’ (8)

She couldn’t help but feel butterflies in her stomach.

Whatever was going on was too much for the inexperienced Lillian, who continued to quiver under Marionette. (8)

’Come on, Lillian! You’re like... six years older than her! You can’t possibly—’

"How was this? Or perhaps do I need to be even bolder?" Marionette whispered, her voice almost seductive.

Lillian felt Marionette’s hold on her hand tighten, intensifying the intimate moment between the two.

"N-Nope! That’s enough!" Lillian stammered flusteredly, moving her other hand before their faces. (8)

Marionette stared down at Lillian’s open palm, facing her, before tilting her head to the side.

She stared down at Lillian’s timid face, which was turned to the side. (2)

"Is that so... would you say the bond between us has increased?" Marionette asked, raising her other hand and placing it against Lillian’s raised hand, interlocking with it as well.

"T-this was your way of bonding!?" Lillian yelled in surprise, her voice high-pitched and cute. (8)

"... I suppose the bond between us did increase." Marionette nodded to herself, ignoring Lillian’s clear sense of shock. "I knew the book was effective after all." (8)

Marionette sat up, resting her rear on Lillian’s thighs, keeping it in place while still holding onto her hands.

Lillian watched as she leaned back, releasing the loud exhale that she was keeping in. (8)

This woman was really doing this to prove that her book, ’The Art of Seduction’, was truly working after all...

She wasn’t sure why, but she felt somewhat disappointed inside.

Maybe...

This could also just be the side-effects of holding her breath for so long under such a tense situation.

She then stared at her hands—still feeling Marionette’s warm hands still clutching them.

Her hold, though gentle and soft, felt like an unbreakable lock, while her hands were a fragile key that could snap at any sudden and strong movement.

Lillian turned her sparkling blue eyes towards Marionette’s dark and seemingly glowing red eyes before asking:

"Uhm... can you release me now...?"

"Close contact will make the bonding go faster." Marionette instantly responded back plainly.

Lillian tilted her head to the side, "... Then... could you get off of me?" the corners of her lips twitched as she tugged at her hands, trying to escape Marionette’s hold. (5)

Marionette went silent for a moment, thinking before nodding at her request, "I find that reasonable."

She then went on to release Lillian’s left hand before moving to the side. However, in this short moment, Lillian quickly pulled out her remaining hand from Marionette’s hold somehow.

Lillian sighed in relief, rubbing her hand before shifting her gaze back at Marionette to find she had suddenly disappeared. (5)

"Eh—"

Without any warning, a pair of slender arms appeared in the corner of her eyes, wrapping around her neck.

Wrapping around her neck a bit too tightly to the point...

Pat! Pat! Pat!

Lillian repeatedly patted Marionette’s arms, suffocating in their tightening embrace. It was like she was trying to kill her.

"T-too tight!" Lillian exclaimed, her voice stifled, straining. (8)

"Ah..." Marionette relaxed her hold around Lillian’s neck, "Apologies... it seemed this familiar motion had caused me to almost kill you unconsciously." she said in a detached manner—like a robot—staring down at Lillian, who gazed up at her.

Lillian’s face darkened at what she had just heard. She was just about to die there due to an assassin’s muscle memory. (2)

She sighed, turning her face around and leaning the back of her head against Marionette’s "pillows". (2)

"Soft..." Lillian murmured. (2)

She then began to ponder about what she was going to say before Marionette suddenly pushed her down.

"Ah!" Lillian shot up, "What did that thing look like, Marionette? That monster." she asked.

Marionette raised an eye before looking away from Lillian’s face and glancing around.

Her gaze soon fixed its focus on a spot in the darkness.

"... You could compare it to a beetle," Marionette answered vaguely.

However, her vague tone soon took a sharp turn as her answer became specific and detailed.

Marionette then listed its features.

"Shell thicker than a Catacomb Brawler by several more inches. Black in colour, most likely to blend in with the surrounding darkness better. Three pairs of jointed legs coming out from its sides with sharp ends. And two large black eyes on the front of its face with a black horn approximately 2 to 3 metres long between them."

She then shifted her gaze back to Lillian, who stared at her with wide eyes, impressed. (2)

"Wow... you’re good..." She commented.

Marionette tilted her head to the side, slightly confused.

"This is the bare minimum you need to survive. I’m flattered if you think I’m proficient at it, though." Marionette stated, her voice firm but thankful.

Lillian clicked her tongue, pulling her face to the side, away from Marionette’s eyes. (2)

"Tsk..."

She wished she had these types of teammates back in her old world while playing games that required callouts.

’Now that I think about it... Marionette is kind of a Mary Sue kind of character... if you ignore her obvious flaws.’

Marionette was beautiful, her voice elegant and seductive, and her ability to survive in most places due to her upbringing has caused her to be quite a powerhouse compared to those of the same rank.

And what character did Lillian possess? A damn introvert lost in her world of fluffy white rabbits that overflowed her room like an ocean stored inside a wooden crater.

"Hm?" Lillian hummed, feeling something rubbing her head.

Gazing up, she watched as Marionette’s hand hovered over the top of her head, caressing it. However...

Lillian’s eyes twitched at how rough she was doing it. (2)

"That’s not the way to do it..."

Pulling herself out of Marionette’s embrace, Lillian raised her hand to the top of Marionette’s head, gently rubbing it tenderly like how a mother would to her child.

While Lillian was doing this, she couldn’t help but feel like she was tricked into doing this.

She stared into Marionette’s blank and expressionless face—her eyes seemingly lost in a daze.

Lillian raised an eye, pulling her hand back from Marionette’s head before suddenly having it be pulled back by her. (2)

Marionette, breaking out of her assumed daze, held Lillian’s hands gently.

"... Continue." She spoke briefly.

Lillian tilted her head to the side, slightly surprised by her reaction, before smiling teasingly. She had finally found a way to get back at her and possibly even gain from this. (5)

"... What if I don’t want to?" Lillian snickered. (8)

"..."

Marionette stared at her silently, giving small tugs at Lillian’s hand towards her head.

"Continue..." She repeated, her tone deepening and in an almost threatening way.

Lillian raised an eye, ’What’s with the sudden change in behaviour?’ (2)

Lillian continued to refuse Marionette’s request.

"What do I get in return?"

"You want something in return for giving something as measly as head pats?"

Lillian’s tone became playful and increasingly mischievous.

"If it’s so measly, why do you want them so bad?" She teased. (2)

Marionette huffed, "You make it sound like I’m desperate for them when I am not." she said, still clutching Lillian’s hand.

Almost as if her unconscious refused to back down.

Marionette noticed this of herself and sighed, sighing under Lillian’s teasing gaze. (2)

"What do you want?" She asked in a composed tone.

Lillian gave a broad grin, "Give me a powerful item!" (2)

"No. Ask something else."

"A high-grade potion then?"

"No. Ask something else." Marionette repeated, her voice steady and monotone.

Lillian bit the nail of her thumb, ’I guess I was too dumb for thinking she would give them up for something like a measly head pat after all...’ she sighed. (5)

’Worth trying though... can’t get anywhere in life without trying, am I right?’ she asked herself before suddenly feeling her brain switch on like a giant light bulb.

"Teach me more ways I can control my element." Lillian demanded before adding, "And teach me how to fight better, too!"
