Marionette stiffened at the Heroine's words. She folded her arms, unconsciously. Was Lillian really going after another woman? She couldn't possibly, right?

Lillian smiled wryly at the Heroine's words, "Huh...? Of course, I am no—" Before stopping mid-sentence as she felt the back of her spine tingle.

It was a tingle that notified her of a certain someone's gaze on her that seemed to turn into a glare the longer it lingered on her. She gave a brief sigh, ignoring the Assassin.

She looked towards the Student Council Head, pondering about her decision. She then asked:

"Are you free for just this lunch?"

Beatrice fidgeted with a few strands of her hair, "Yeah, I'm free this lunch only for this week, you know."

Lillian gave a nod, glancing at the members of her group before asking, "You guys don't mind if I join her for today? I don't get to see her much."

Reph gave a brief nod, whilst Millis gave an incredulous thumbs up.

"Sure! But ya really only gotta ask red-eyes here for approval."

Lillian's smile curved down slightly as she slowly turned her head towards the raven-haired beauty, whose face was unexpressive and the aura surrounding her was cold.

"So... Can I?"

Marionette stared at her silently, before shrugging, "Sure." She said, turning her face slightly to the side where nobody could see it.

Lillian widened her eyes slightly before smiling, "Cool!" She wrapped her arms around the tall woman and went off with Beatrice, who watched the two interact silently.

Once they left, Millis turned to Reph and asked in a surprised tone:

"The two know each other?"

In response, he shrugged and said:

"They... Seem well acquainted with one another."

Millis rubbed her chin, thinking hard like a scholar who had been given a century-old question. How did Lillian know the Student Council Head? Were they childhood friends?

"They could be childhood friends..." She then tilted her head back, facing the ceiling, "Seems unlikely, though, considering she would've looked for the Student Council Head as soon as she passed the exams..."

Turning her head around, Millis asked the Assassin, "What do you think, red-eyes—" She then froze, discovering that the expected person had suddenly disappeared without a trace.

Millis dramatically twisted her head around, looking over the room, "Where did she go?" She asked before facepalming. She looked towards the Reph with an inquisitive look.

She found the Prince looking towards the empty doorway.

Reph turned back to Millis and said:

"Not sure what she's planning to do..."

"Eh? Do ya know where she went?"

Reph blinked at her silently before moving towards the door, "Let's go. Just like you said before, I'm hungry."

As Millis followed after him, he replayed the scene of Marionette's body sinking into the ground, specifically an ominous black puddle of what he could only assume to be darkness.

Although he wasn't proud of thinking it, he hoped that the Assassin would shift the target from him to the Student Council Head. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Lillian and the Student Council Head, Beatrice, walked down the bustling hallway, which seemed to part slightly. The cause was most likely the blonde-haired woman.

They shuffled past, conversing over small things.

"So, what with the sudden request to hang out?" Lillian asked, sticking close to Beatrice as some brushed against her shoulder, accidentally pushing her into the blonde woman.

Beatrice wrapped her arm around the back of Lillian's neck, placing her hand on her shoulder and pulling her in a bit, "Just to hang out, you know? Especially after we had just met up after so long, you know?"

Lillian, ignorant of the fact that the centre of her shadow was shaking a bit, asked:

"I guess... Where do you wanna go? I was thinking we head to a café or the cafeteria."

"Oh, definitely...!" Beatrice's lips then became thin and shaky. "You know... I know this really good place."

Lillian's smile twitched at her "You know", figuring out how annoying it must be.

"I think I know where you might be talking about."

"Oh? Do you really, though?" Beatrice asked, raising a curious eyebrow at her before quietly muttering, "You know..." To the side.

"Mhm..." Lillian tilted her head side-to-side, rattling her brain to recall her memory, "It's on the road between the Library and the Bazaar, right?"

"Around there, yeah. Who told you?" Beatrice asked as they exited the Academy Building.

Lillian shrugged, her eyes looking over the "Sky".

"I have been there before and saw you in there once, I think." She was, of course, lying. She had passed by it a few times, but never went into it.

And the reason was...

... It looked extremely decrepit.

Lillian stood before a nearly run-down building that seemed to be on the verge of collapse.

Its brick walls looked as though they were decaying, especially with their already scraped-off paint. Its sign was slanted at an angle, but still readable. And it gave off a repelling aura.

Her eyes went over the etched name in the wide wooden signboard and read:

[Lukewarm]

Beatrice pushed open the wooden doors, whose hinges looked as though they were ready to give out and drop. Lillian followed her in, pausing immediately as the floorboard dropped a bit and let out a...

Creeaaakkk...

She shivered at the sound before sighing and looking around. The place was in every sense mysterious and not fit to be resided in.

It did, however, have quite the cosy and warming feeling with the dimly lit candles in the corners and a surprisingly nice smell instead of a musky one she would unconsciously expect from a place like this.

She soon turned her gaze back to Beatrice, finding her already seated at a table and waving for her to come over. Lillian walked over, sitting down at the table.

"For a Student Council Head, you sure do go to the oddest of places." Lillian shuffled in her seat, noticing how comfortable the seat was despite its poor state.

It was a wooden chair with a classic backrest. It had a red cushion that seemed to have been stitched back together countless times.

Beatrice shrugged, "I thought you'd know that about me by now." She paused before quickly saying, "I'm hurt, you know."

Lillian rolled her eyes, smiling a bit, before noticing a server approaching from outside a room. It was an old man of tall stature in a professional waiter's attire. He had long dark grey hair, a humorously long moustache, and wore a monocle over his right eye.

"Ah... Customers... As expected, it's you, Miss Beatrice."

Beatrice gave the elder a wave, watching as he approached at a steady pace.

"Good afternoon, Walter. How's business? Any other customers?"

"Some. Mainly those who you had brought before and some newcomers, which I assume to be from the new year that had arrived recently." The old man stroked his grey goatee, "I suppose only their curiosity led them into having a drink here."

He then glanced towards Lillian.

"Oh? Someone new this time, Miss?"

Beatrice nodded, gesturing towards Lillian, "This is, Lillian, a good friend of mine, which I've known since I was young. She was actually the first place winner of the Entrance Exam held at the beginning of the year."

The server, Walter, perked up at the news.

"Is that so?" He asked in an incredulous tone before facing the white-haired girl and bowing like a butler, "Then I congratulate you for your superb efforts and performance in the exam. I heard this year was much more difficult compared to the last. Although, it was only through word of mouth."

Lillian smiled and nodded, grateful, "It was extremely difficult. I only won through luck. But thank you for your words."

Walter smiled, straightening his back, "Luck can only take you so far, Miss. Now, then, what can I get for the two ladies?"

Beatrice raised a hand and asked for a black coffee, whilst Lillian asked for a cappuccino. Walter left and returned with their coffee. Afterwards, he left again, once hearing his service wouldn't be needed yet.

The two ladies then conversed over the table, indulging in the caffeine in their drinks. And while this was happening, Lillian couldn't help but feel an intense gaze on her the entire time.

Beatrice noticed the white-haired girl glance around before tilting her head, "Is there something wrong?"

"Eh... Nah." Lillian shook her head, still ignorant of the presence inside her shadow that seemed to cause ripples in her faint, dark figure.
