Chapter 110: Chapter 110

After what felt like an eternity of awkward struggling, I finally managed to wriggle out from his iron grip. He had clung to me like his life depended on it, and for a brief moment, I thought I might never escape.

I had to time my movements just right, waiting until his arms loosened slightly, then slipping out as quickly as I could.

As I pulled myself free, I couldn’t help but glance back at his peaceful expression, feeling a strange mix of relief and embarrassment.

"Seriously, you’re supposed to be the protagonist, and yet here we are," I muttered under my breath. "How do you even manage to get yourself free in these situations?" I asked even though I know he can’t hear nor answer me.

Angela’s strained voice pulled me back to reality. "Remillia! I seriously need you here right now! Don’t make me go back there!" She was still busy dodging the monster’s vines, looking none too pleased.

"Macaron will be the one helping you out!" I called back, quickly regaining my focus. I mind linked Macaron to help Angela out, which he swooped down from above, his wings a blur as he zipped towards Angela.

"What a showoff," I muttered under my breathe, rolling my eyes as Macaron swooped down to help Angela. Apparently he heard that as his indignant squawk echoed in my head, <Hey, I heard that!> I smirked, choosing to ignore him and focus on the task at hand.

’Open system shop,’ in a flash I quickly scrolled through the system locating the items I needed: a high-grade shovel, a torch, and a blanket. I looked at the total and it cost me 12,999 PP points. I shoved my fist into my mouth to prevent myself from shouting while I tap confirm. I needed those points for future use!

I quickly slung Cypher’s arm into my shoulder as I carried him out of harm’s way then covered him with the blanket I bought. I glanced at Angela, who was still dodging and attacking the monster’s advances with surprising agility, and Macaron, who seemed to be enjoying the chase.

"I gotta work fast," I took a steady breathe and turned my attention back to the monster’s trunk, I quickly started digging down but the soil was tougher than I had anticipated, and each thrust of the shovel felt like a workout on its own.

"Ugh, who knew digging could this be intense?" I muttered, my muscles already aching. "Guess I’ll have to train more after this."

Sweat started to trickle down my face as I kept my focus, making sure to avoid the delicate, tangled roots. One wrong move and the vines would sense the threat, immediately going back to defend its main body. I inched closer to the core of the creature, where I knew its central core was buried. If I could reach it, I’d have a chance to end this.

Angela’s shouts echoed nearby as I sensed Macaron’s distressed hoot, I got nervous but soon calmed myself as I pushed my worry out of my mind. "Just a bit more..." I whispered to myself. freewebnoveℓ.com

One more thrust and I finally found the core, it was glowing green as clusters of vine protected it. I grinned, "I can finally end this damn monster, exhausting me completely just to find its central core."

Just as I held the torch over the core, ready to set it aflame, I felt a sudden, icy grip around my ankles. I glanced down, only to see the vines wrapping themselves tightly around my legs and creeping up towards my arms, binding me in place.

"Oh great... Just great!" I muttered sarcastically, struggling against the vines. I tried to twist the torch towards them, hoping the fire would deter the monster, but my arms were pinned too tightly.

"Angela!" I called out, frustration in my voice evident. "I might need help- ah!" I gasped as I felt thorns prickling my skin where the vines came in contact with my skin.

[You’ve been injected by poison!]

[Your skill: Poison Purification has been activated! Poison nullified!]

My frustration doubled up as the thorns pained me even more so I muttered my skill, "electric shock."

A jolt of electricity surged from my body, crackling along the vines that held me captive. I could feel the vines recoil, loosening slightly as they absorbed the shock. It didn’t let go entirely, but the charge disrupted its grip, giving me enough room to wiggle my arm free.

I threw the torch straight into the heart of the monster, the vines tried to intercept but as the torch flew through the air, arcs of electricity danced around it, igniting the path it traced. It struck the core dead-on, and flames erupted around the monster’s heart, scorching it from within.

I wasted no time, scrambling to reach the surface as flames started to surround me. Meanwhile, the vines writhed in a desperate attempt to smother the spreading fire. In the end, it thrashed around in agony as the ground above it collapsed completely burying the monster.

Angela who arrived late was sweating and trying to prevent herself from falling down due to exhaustion, "Thank goodness you finished it off!" looking relieved that the fight was over, "Oh right! I heard you scream my name and thought you were asking for help but guess what? I won’t freaking help you considering you didn’t help me when I was asking for help a while ago!"

I couldn’t help but laugh at her reaction, even though I could sense the frustration in her voice, "I don’t remember asking for help though?" I smirked, brushing myself off, "Besides, I was the one who asked Macaron to help you. So technically, I still helped you."

Angela only huffed in annoyance, "Where’s Cypher anyway?"

"He’s there resting," I pointed to the spot where I left him off.

"I’ll go check on him first," With Angela quickly bolted towards Cypher as if she wasn’t exhausted just now.

I wanted to check on him too but I stayed and sat on a nearby tree, I need to give them some alone time so they could get closer. I don’t want to mess up the story line even more. I didn’t want to dwell on it too much so I called out to Macaron, trying to shake off the uncomfortable feeling gnawing at my chest.

When Macaron finally flew down, I couldn’t help but run my fingers through his soft feathers, focusing on the familiar comfort he brought. "You did great back there," I muttered to him, smiling as he nuzzled into my hand.

"Rem...lia...Lia!" I opened my eyes and sat up as I gasped for air.

"Cypher? You’re awake now!" Someone hugged me from my side and saw Angela looking worriedly at me.

My head throbbed as images of Remillia flashed inside my mind, she was also looking at me with concern. Was it all a dream then? I shook my head as I tried to speak, "What happened to me?"

Angela frowned, her eyes scanning my face as if trying to assess whether I was truly back to normal. "Remember when we you got separated from us? We tried looking for you since yesterday and now we found you tied up unconscious in a vine monster- I don’t know what that is but it’s all thanks to Remillia that we found you."

"Remillia?" I muttered, rubbing my temples. "she’s here?"

My mind scrambled to piece together the events, flashes of Remillia’s face, her voice, does that mean hugging her was also real? The embarrassment crept up my neck, making my ears burn with heat. ’Why did I hug her like that?’

Angela’s voice broke me out of my reverie. "Uhh Cypher? Are you feeling sick?" she asked, her tone more concerned.

I quickly forced a smile, trying to put the blush down. "Huh? Yeah...yeah I’m fine. Where’s Remi?"

Angela raised her eyebrow, "Why?"

"Well... I need to thank her for s-saving me," I stammered, trying to play it cool.

Angela crossed her arms and shot me a pointed look. "Oh? What about me? I also contributed in saving you, you know?"

I chuckled at her reaction and headlock her softly while ruffling her hair. "Alright, thank you for saving me."

Angela froze for a moment, and for a split second, I thought she might push me away. But to my surprise, she didn’t. Instead, she huffed and swatted my hand, trying to hide the small smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "You’re lucky, I like you Cypher," she muttered, though her voice was softer than usual. "Otherwise, I would’ve left you tied up with those vines."

I laughed, letting go of her, and giving her a playful grin. "Yeah, I’ll be sure to remember that next time I get into trouble."

Angela shook her head, brushing her hair back into place, "Stay here, I’ll call Remillia to come over."

I nodded at her, "thanks."
