I Want to Die, But I Am Immortal-Chapter 101: Blash (5)
Johnny stood up from his armchair and slid his phone into his pocket. The men who had escorted Adam inside moved to the large metal door and slid it shut with a heavy grating sound.
The factory was sealed. But Adam did not care.
His entire focus his entire world was centered on the small figure kneeling on the floor. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Sophia.
She was staring at the ground her shoulders shaking with silent sobs.
"I had a feeling my man wouldn’t make it back alive from his visit to you," Johnny said his voice calm and steady a stark contrast to the volatile situation.
"But I have to admit I am surprised that you managed to torture the location of this place out of him. I thought my men were tougher than that. I thought they would never betray me no matter how much they were tortured."
Johnny was genuinely impressed. He knew that only a handful of his most trusted men knew about this secret hideout.
He assumed that Adam had killed the messenger he had sent and had somehow forced the information out of him before he died. So the rumors are true he thought a flicker of respect mingling with his caution.
This kid really is dangerous. Let’s see just how dangerous he is.
He was about to say something to Sophia to use her as a pawn in his game. But Adam spoke first his voice cutting through the tense silence.
"Sophia you don’t need to cry," he said his voice soft and reassuring a gentle caress in the cold harsh environment. "I’m here now."
Sophia looked up at the sound of his voice her tear-filled eyes wide with a mixture of hope and fear. She saw him standing there in his dirty hospital gown his face streaked with grime.
And her heart ached with a new kind of fear a fear not for herself but for him. Did they capture him too? she thought her mind reeling.
What did they do to him? She saw his disheveled state not as a sign of weakness but as evidence of a struggle a fight he had endured to get to her. The thought filled her with a profound sense of guilt and a deep unwavering love.
"You shouldn’t have come here Adam," she whispered her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and relief.
"Don’t worry," Adam said his voice calm and steady a beacon of reassurance in the tense atmosphere. "I won’t let anything happen to you."
But his words only made Sophia more afraid. She was not worried about herself. She had long since accepted her own fate. She felt like a burden to her family to Adam. If she died here it would not matter. But she could not bear the thought of him dying for her.
Johnny laughed a deep rumbling sound that filled the cavernous factory.
"Do you know where you are boy?" he said his voice dripping with a confident amusement. "You’re in my territory. And no one leaves Johnny’s territory unless I say so."
He was surprised by Adam’s unwavering confidence but he was still the one in control. He had the girl. He had the numbers. He had the power.
But Adam was not listening to him. He was not even looking at him. His eyes were fixed on Sophia. He had only one goal in mind. And he was just waiting for the right moment to execute it.
He was waiting for a spark. He knew that someone in the factory would eventually light a cigarette or fire a gun. And when they did he would have his chance.
He would grab Sophia and hide her in a safe place. He had already scouted the perfect location. Like the other factory this one was also filled with old rusted machinery.
But here it was piled up in a corner like a mountain of scrap metal. It was a chaotic maze of twisted steel and broken gears. It would be the perfect hiding place.
Once Sophia was safe he would unleash his full power. He would kill them all.
Johnny was annoyed that Adam was ignoring him so completely. He looked at Sophia. The two men behind her were still holding their guns on her their expressions a mixture of boredom and anticipation.
He nodded his head a silent command.
The man with the gun to her head put his pistol away. He then grabbed Sophia by the hair and yanked her to her feet with a cruel laugh. The pain made her cry out a small wounded sound that tore at Adam’s heart.
"Were you saying something boy?" Johnny asked his voice a mocking sneer as he watched Sophia wince in pain.
Adam’s eyes turned a deep crimson with rage. A low dangerous growl escaped his lips. "You’re a dead man," he said his voice a chilling promise of violence.
"And now I’m going to make you suffer a hundred times more than you’re making Sophia suffer."
Sophia gritted her teeth against the searing pain in her scalp. She knew she had to be strong. She knew that the more weakness she showed the more vulnerable Adam would be. She could not let her pain be his downfall.
The man holding her hair laughed a cruel heartless sound that echoed through the factory. He found Adam’s threat amusing.
Adam was growing impatient. His plan relied on a spark an ignition source. Why was no one smoking? Why was no one firing their weapon?
And then he got his answer. A massive explosion rocked the building next door the one he had just booby-trapped. The shockwave slammed into the factory with the force of a hurricane.
The entire building shook. Johnny and his men were thrown off balance their confident smirks replaced by looks of stunned surprise. The man holding Sophia lost his grip and stumbled to the side.
This was the moment Adam had been waiting for.
He vanished from his spot a blur of motion too fast for the human eye to follow. He reappeared in front of Sophia just as she was about to fall to the ground. He caught her in his arms and disappeared again.
He reappeared behind the mountain of scrap metal the perfect hiding place he had scouted earlier. He laid her down gently on the cold concrete floor.
"Stay here until I come back," he whispered his voice a soft reassurance in the chaotic aftermath of the explosion.
He tore a large piece of sheet metal from one of the broken machines and placed it over her creating a makeshift shelter that hid her from view.
Only her eyes were visible peeking out from the darkness her expression a mixture of fear and awe. She was safe for now. And now Adam was free to unleash his full fury.
