I Try To Enjoy My Life But This Woman Keep Calling Me Villain-Chapter 217: New Plant and Monster-Repelling Ward
"I thought that I could borrow the Okami and Fenrir units."
"Of course not!"
Silva looks at me weirdly and says.
"They are already famous units that protect the Southern Territory, and many people look at them in awe and envy. When the news of them digging the ground will decrease their reputation, you know?"
"And I agree with Silva in this matter, Gwyn. We cannot make our reputation decrease because of that."
I pout for a second before saying.
"Well, at least my father agreed to let me hire some laborers. However, are you sure that this will work? Sending Jullian and Jonathan to the city to ask the citizens to join this project sounds a little bit underwhelming, right?"
Hilda shakes her head and says.
"You are underestimating your reputation, Gwyn. If you declare that you need laborers in the capital, a hundred thousand people around the kingdom will come here and willingly work for you."
I want to say that it will never happen, but I hesitate because I feel it will happen just like she said.
"Hilda is right, dear." Silva decides to add more. "You are known as a benevolent person who will not cheat them on their money. Not only that, you also tell them that they will receive food twice a day while working for you. That is something that has never been heard of in history."
Ah. This is a medieval time, huh? The time when people sometimes do not get paid for their labor or only get paid using food.
Oh well, let’s just wait for how many people are willing to work for me.
We did not wait for long, and ten minutes later, Jonathan and Jullian returned from the city.
"My lord! We are done recruiting the people!"
"Please look at them and see if they are worthy, my lord."
I nod and leave the tent. I widen my eyes when I see more than a hundred people waiting for my instruction. They are all healthy people, with the youngest being around fifteen and the oldest around fifty.
I take a deep breath and say in a loud voice.
"Thank you for coming here! I gather you here to help me build a massive cellar. However, instead of the ground made of stone, I need it to be full of dirt."
One of them raises his hand, and I nod at him.
"Do you want to make an underground kitchen, my lord? The one where you bury the food while burning wood over the food that is buried on the ground."
"Something like that, yes."
"Then may I offer my service as the designer, my lord? I have years of experience in this kind of building. The Eastern Nobles like to have one of the kitchens in their castle."
I can see the people look at him in envy and some in anger. He is an opportunist, huh? Well, I don’t blame him.
"Ask Ser Jonathan or Ser Jullian for paper and quill for you to write your plan or even draw it."
"Of course, my lord."
I nod and look at the others.
"For the others, we will start to work tomorrow in the digging process while he draws the plan. You will be paid two silver coins every day, and you will be given food every morning and afternoon."
I can hear excitement coming from all the people. I let them talk with each other for a minute before continuing.
"However!" I say with a loud and stern voice. "IF I see or hear one of you did not work properly, I shall kick you out of this project and will never be invited to the future project. I will give you a good amount of money, but I need a quality worker in return. This is my first and only warning."
That silences them and makes them return to reality. I look at them for a few seconds before saying.
"Good. You can return to your home and get here in the morning. I don’t mind if someone is ten minutes late, but their pay will be cut if they are more than ten minutes late."
I take a deep breath and say.
"I shall appoint someone who will watch over your progress and write to someone who is lazing around. That is all. You guys can go back. Just remember to come here tomorrow morning."
After seeing them leave me, Silva looks at me and says.
"What kind of plant do you want to grow in the underground farm, Gwyn?"
I look at her and say.
"Do you want to see them? I think you will love them, especially Hilda."
Silva and Hilda look at me curiously and nod their heads. I smile and open up the portal to my guild base. I take them to the underground farm my guildmate created and show them a glowing plant.
The plant itself is nothing special. It is a plant that looks like an aloe vera plant, but a teardrop-shaped crystal is coming out of its leaves’ end. Not only that, but there are blue dots around the plant’s leaves, and they are shining in the dark.
"What kind of plant is this, Gwyn?? Silva looks at the plant curiously. "I can feel some magic coming from this plant. However, unlike the other plants, I can feel the energy around the plant is more soothing than the other plants. It makes me relax and content."
I nod my head because I now know that the effect of the plant is working. I cannot feel the plant’s effect because of my high level, but I know it will affect a lower-level person. This is the main ingredient of potions and ward-making material for the thing that I want to create.
"In front of you is called Relaxing Aloe Vera. As the name suggests, this plant can create an effect that makes anyone relax."
"I see. What kind of thing do you want to create using this thing?"
I look at Hilda and say.
"Using this plant as the base for a potion, I can create a potion that numbs someone’s pain and stops bleeding."
"Does that mean this plant can be used as an emergency potion, my lord?"
I look at Jullian and nod my head.
"Yes. Sooner or later, monsters from the south migrate north after hunting all living beings in that land, and we need to prepare. As much as I want to be the one leading the Southern People, I cannot be in multiple places at once."
At least not without casting a cloning-type spell that lets me clone myself and be in two places at once. Even then, I cannot create more than one clone that is half the level of my main body. I can also split my body into two. But it is a risky move as not only half of my level for each body but if one of them dies in battle or something, my level will go down with the clone.
I have a ring that reduces the penalty, but I will still lose thirty-five levels even then. That thing is only great for potion-making or enchanting activities, not for battle.
"Can it also numb someone’s sense, my lord?"
I look at Jonathan, and I already see him plotting to use this new potion as his weapon to torture some poor soul who says something bad about me.
"Yes. If used in the correct dosage, they will not know about it."
"I see."
I look away from him and continue.
"However, that is not the only thing that makes this plant valuable. Combine it using enchantment and rune carving; you can use this plant as the base effect of a monster-repellent barrier."
"WHAT?!"
