Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Proposal

I wipe my mouth and see my father before saying.

"Father, you said that you want to say something?"

My father wipes his mouth and says.

"Not to you but to Heiress Silvanna."

Silva perks up and slowly puts down the fork and knife in her hand, then wipe her mouth.

"Of course. What can I do for you, my lord? While I cannot accept anything that affects the overall matter of the Baxter, I will accept a small request or even some of the medium one."

"It is nothing big. As the lord of the Cunnigham Family, I want to ask the Baxter Family to help us create a road between the Luzia Kingdom and the Southern Territory. Of course, I did not want to make the Baxter family bear all the costs, but I want to have a talk with Lord Baxter for a moment for this project."

I see. Creating a trade road is a must because not only will it increase our income, but it will also make moving an army easier. The Cunningham Family can pay for all the road construction, but I know the reason why my father needs Lord Baxter in this project.

Making this road alone will make our family a servant family, especially when a quarter of the road is in the other lord’s territory. Not only will it make us look like a servant house, but also we have a chance of offending the Baxter Family even though it is to their benefit in the long run.

It is like building a fence in your neighbor’s front yard without their permission. It is good in the long run, but building something without the owner’s permission is rude.

There is also the problem of wasting money. The Cunningham Family has quite a bit of money from our trade and tax, but wasting it will be stupid. If you can ask the other to help, why not? Especially if this deal also increases their income.

"Do you want me to send a letter to my father?"

"That is right. I don’t want to say that you are not worthy of hearing about this project, but as you said, this is too big for a heiress."

Instead of getting offended, Silva nods her head and says.

"I understand, my lord. I will send a letter to my father later this evening."

"Thank you."

"It is my pleasure. Is there anything else?"

"Yes."

My father takes out a piece of paper and says,

"Do you want to marry my son?"

I spray all the water I am about to drink and start to cough. A few seconds later, I look up and see Silva become bright red and my mother giggling on the side alongside my little sister.

"Father?!"

My father looks at me with a confused expression and says.

"What? The men your age are already engaged, and some are even already married. It is my duty as a father to think about your future, you know?"

I look at him for a moment and sigh. He is right. I’m already at the age where I need to think about a future wife and taking over my father, even though my father will continue to rule until he dies or until he abdicates.

I look at Silva, who is as red as a tomato, but after a few seconds, she quickly shakes her head and says.

"I am flattered, my lord. I don’t mind marrying a great man like Gwyndolin. However, you should ask him instead of me. He is your son, after all."

My father nods and says.

"Hmmm, you are right, heiress Silvanna."

He then looks at me.

"How about it, Gwyn? If you say yes, I will talk to Lord Baxter to start the engagement when he comes here."

I look at him and Silva before thinking for a few seconds. I look up and say.

"I cannot decide right now."

I quickly raise my hand and say.

"That doesn’t mean I hate you and do not want to marry you, Silva. You are beautiful, smart, brave, and diligent. You are a perfect lady for any soon-to-be lord."

"Then why?"

"I want a marriage out of love and not by contract. Let us know each other for a few months, and after that, we can talk about marriage. I want to know you first, get close to you, and fall in love with you before we talk about marriage."

I look at Silva right in her eyes and say.

"Will you do that for me? Will you let me get close to you and make you fall in love with me? I want us to have a long and lasting marriage life that lasts until death do us part."

Silva looks at me for a few seconds, and I can see she starts to smile. A smile that can burn darkness away. Her gold eyes now shine with light, making it look like fire appears inside of her eyes.

"Yes! Let’s fall in love together!"

I smile at her and look back at my parents, who are smiling from ear to ear. I can already see the word ’Grandbabies’ inside my mother’s eyes. My father grins and claps his hands.

"Good! Then I will have a talk with Lord Baxter about an engagement between the two of you. However! I will also ensure that the engagement can be broken easily if you two think you are incompatible."

I smile at my father and bow a little.

"Thank you, Father."

"Bah! Think nothing of it. This decision will also help me kick the people that try to force you to marry their daughter or son."

"Really?"

"Yeah. More than a dozen lords and ladies try to marry their daughter and son to you. Especially the people from the North are too forceful in their approach. Some Baron even dares to think that he has power over me as if I’m a commoner or a knight instead of a Count."

That is rather bold of him. A Baron wants to order a Count around, huh? Baron is the second lowest noble ranking in the kingdom, while Count is two ranks higher than Baron in the hierarchy.

"Which Baron?"

"Jaross Barony."

"That place?"

Jaross Barony is a small place Northwest of Shadowfall City. They are a small territory that has a small hill full of iron. They are quite a rich house for a Baron. However, Jaross Barony cannot be compared to even the poorest Count House, and they try to order us around, huh? The Northern Nobles really look down upon us, huh?

"Yes. That is why I’m glad that you decided to do it this way. I’m glad that you are not rejecting this proposal outright."

"What? Why?"

"I know you are a man who loves adventure, not someone who wants to be chained. You get that from my side of the family. However, I’m afraid that to be not chained, you did not want to marry anyone and only wanted to explore the world."

"I’m not that kind of person, Father. I want to explore the world, but I don’t want to abandon my duty and family just to explore the world. If I have a chance and time to do it, I will do it, but if I do not have it, I will forget about it and take care of my duty first."

My father smiles and nods his head proudly.

"Good. Anyway, let’s continue this feast and start the real party."

"What? Party? For what?"

"What? The plan for engagement is a worthy party, Gwyn. Bring out the wine and beer!"

And just like that, four people walk inside the room with a barrel full of wine and beer. Shit. I look at Silva, who can only sigh at the sight of the alcohol in front of her before chugging a large glass of beer.

I blink for a few seconds and remember that she is also a Southerner. If there is one thing that the people in the North think of us is that we are heavy drinkers. Most of us are not alcoholics, but we are heavy drinkers, as in we drink heavily before we get drunk, and boy, we do drink a lot.

I don’t know if this is some kind of bloodline power or something, but many theorize that people that have long stayed in the South will start to have a great tolerance for alcohol.

And my mother also joined the party by chugging a large glass of beer and releasing a sigh. With me only the sane person in this room, I sigh, get up and walk toward Sonia and Rachel, who look at me with a questioning expression.

"Do you two want cookies?"

They smile brightly at my question and nod their head. I smile and take them to the kitchen and prepare myself to take care of the aftermath of this party.
