Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Letter

|Catharina von Xenotra - Heiress of Baron Xenotra|

I can see Lord Cunningham and Lord Verqur looking in the distance. After they stay silent for a few seconds before Lord Cunningham nods and looks at my group.

"Are you sure you three want to join the fight?"

The three of us nod, and I say.

"Yes. We want to join the fight."

Lord Alexander looks for a few seconds before nodding and saying.

"Very well. Go and join Gwyndolin and his group. You will be under his command for today’s battle. Your talent and fighting style suits his group better than the unit in this place."

"Yes!"

The three of us quickly get to the eastern wall, where I can see Gwyn briefing his soldiers. I don’t know what kind of life he has in this world, but he looks like a general in the tv from my previous life–charismatic and full of authority.

A sixteen-year-old leading people to battle. If this were my previous life, people would revolt at the sight of a child soldier leading a group of underage soldiers.

"Huh? Catharina, Jon–" Gwyn decided to call Jonathan on my group Jon not to cause any confusion when we are together as a group. " and Veronica. What are you guys doing here? Are you not joining Lord Verqur’s Unit?"

"Lord Alexander decided to let us join your group because of our ability."

Gwyn looks at us for a moment before nodding his head.

"Very well. Tell me, what kind of magic or fighting style can you use?"

"I can use Wind, Water, and Ice Magic."

I go first before I look at Jon, who looks at Gwyn with a frown on his face. Ah, I know that face. He is jealous. You don’t need to worry, Jon. As much as Gwyndolin has a handsome face and a great personality, we are incompatible.

I also did not have any intention of wooing him.

"Swordsmanship, Archery, and a little bit of fire magic."

"How little?"

"Elementary Mid-Class."

Gwyn nods and looks at Veronica. Veronica smirks and takes a rifle from the Bag of Holding she bought from the Eastern Continent.

"Riflewoman. It is like–"

"Archery. I know what a rifle is, and you have a rare one."

"Of course! This is the most expensive rifle on the market."

Gwyn nods and puts his hand inside the black hole that appears next to him. A second later, I can see a meter and a half sniper rifle coming out of the black hole. It has a golden body with a blue light in the middle of the rifle and a golden scope. I really need to ask him about his power. We are too focused on the Black Rose organization that I forget to ask him about his power.

"Use this instead. This is just like your rifle but has a greater range. You can also use your magic as ammunition instead of the bullet in your bag. Can you see the button on the side? That is the elemental switch button. You can use three elemental bullets: Fire, Lightning, and Ice. Fire will explode on contact, Lightning has greater penetration, and Ice will freeze the enemy. Use them wisely. I will let you borrow this rifle."

Veronica takes the rifle gently as if it was a newborn baby. She is a gun enthusiast. There is a reason why she wants to be a merchant. She wants to go to the eastern continent every year to buy the newest gun from that continent.

This world gunpowder weapon is not as popular as Earth. The reason? Magic and Talent make the research on that weapon slow down. Archer with talent can be even more powerful than any sniper in my previous world.

The most famous one can kill someone using her bow and arrow from ten kilometers away. She has a talent that boosts her archery.

Not only that, tech researchers are not as many as magic researchers because of how profitable it is to be a magic researcher.

"Can I use this?"

"Just make sure to return it back to me."

"Can I buy this?"

"No, you can’t."

"Awww"

I giggle a little at the sight of Veronica, the Spider Queen, pouting at that word.

"Anyway, you will be at the third tower. The tallest one in this part of the wall. Your job is to make sure to kill the bigger monster. Not only that, but I also need you to make sure to kill the flying monster that our scout has spotted."

Veronica nods and puts the rifle on her shoulder.

"Got it."

Gwyn looks at Jon and says.

"You will be among the archers. Take the bow and take care of the monster coming. You will be among the archers on the right side. Just like Veronica, keep an eye on the sky."

"Sure. I can do that."

Gwyn nods and finally looks at me.

"As a wind magic user, I need you to support the archer. Go with Jon and support the archers on the right side."

"Hmmm, I can do that."

"However, that is not only your job."

"What?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Your Ice Magic. Slow the enemy down."

"Ah, got it."

He wants me to create a debuff effect, huh? I can do that.

"Good."

I turn around when I hear roars from monsters. The sky darkens as hundreds of monsters fly to the fortress.

"Tch. We did not have time. Come! [Nature’s Guardian]!"

My jaw drops at the sight of four creatures appearing from the sky, and they are wagging their tails while purring at Gwyn’s affection. After rubbing their heads one by one, Gwyn points at the sky, and I can hear them roar.

In the blink of an eye, the four creatures fly at the incoming horde of monsters and start the fight with a massive explosion.

I really need to ask him about his power.

|3rd POV|

While the people in Shadowfall City are busy defending the city from the incoming monsters, the people in the capital city are also busy with the letter that the king just got from the Gokuya Kingdom.

"Is the letter true? Is this the real deal?"

The king asks his advisors, who look at the piece of paper sitting in the middle of the chair. It was a letter coming from the Gokuya Kingdom, the kingdom that declared war against them.

"Yes, your highness. The seal is the seal of the Vortigern Duchy. The letter is legit, but we did not know if this was a trap or not."

The king nods and says.

"However, what kind of trap asks us for permission to see us here? What kind of trap let them hurt us in the capital city?"

"There is only one thing I can think of, assassination. They come here, and one of the people coming with them will disappear when they get inside the city. That person will go and sneak around the city to search for the weakness of the palace and try to assassinate you, your highness."

"That is a possible and maybe the highest chance of them doing that. However, why? Is there any reason why they should do that? They are currently fighting against the monsters."

"Then there is only one thing left. What is written on the letter is the truth."

What is written inside the letter is a request for a meeting between the King and the Heiress of the Vortigern Duchy of the Gokuya Kingdom. The letter asks the king to let her and her group get inside the capital city to meet him for an urgent meeting.

"However, why do they want to meet me? Surrender? They can’t do that. Their king should be the one meeting me, not them, or at least they need to use their kingdom seal. That only leaves one thing..."

"They want a backdoor deal with us."

A backdoor deal is something that nobles do without the permission of their king. A trade deal is not a big deal, but something like an alliance or, worse, a military alliance is prohibited, and usually, it is because they want to do a coup or something along that line.

"Do they want to overthrow their king?"

"It looks like it, your highness. With their king being a madman to ally him and his kingdom with the monsters. Now with their plan backfired, many nobles will rebel against that man."

"You are right. How bad is their situation? Does the Shadow report back?"

"Not yet, your highness. The last letter they sent is about the monsters moving south at a very fast pace. The Gokuya Kingdom already lost three cities, and thousands of people died."

"That means there is no new letter from them."

"That is right, your highness."

The king leans over his chair and releases a sigh. He is debating whether to let them come or not. After thinking for a minute, he looks at his advisors and says.

"Accept their offer."

"Of course, your highness."
