Chapter 106: Chapter 106: He Must Die

Zhao Huan hacked at Chen Xu several times, only to find she still couldn’t kill the demon.

She was filled with grief and indignation, her gaze turning venomous.

’The demon tortured me like this, so why can’t I kill him?’

As she remembered the tragic death of her husband and her own miscarriage, as she remembered being locked up and tortured for a year by this monster, a red glow surged from her body. Instantly, her internal organs began to bleed.

All she could do was stand there, wailing helplessly.

"Zhao Huan, snap out of it! Control your emotions! Don’t let your resentment take over and turn you into a remorseless killing machine."

The only reason Zhao Huan had regained her sanity was thanks to Shen Zhiyao’s guidance. If she lost control again, she would be lost to an abyss of no return.

At that point, it would be much harder for Shen Zhiyao to pull her back.

But now, she was no longer listening to Shen Zhiyao’s words. The color began to drain from her black pupils.

Realizing he wouldn’t die, Chen Xu let out a sinister laugh. "Zhao Huan! Oh, Zhao Huan! So what if our contract is broken? You still can’t kill me! You couldn’t kill me when you were alive, and you sure as hell can’t kill me now that you’re dead! Go on, let your resentment fester! Become a Fierce Ghost, never to be reborn! HAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHA..."

"And you, you bitch!"

His vicious gaze landed on Shen Zhiyao. "You love to meddle, don’t you? Trying to save Zhao Huan? You can’t save her. She’s about to be consumed by darkness and become my sharpest weapon once more! When that happens, you’ll die too! Neither of you is getting out of here alive!"

Chen Xu held the Silver White Spirit Stone high, his laughter growing more unhinged. "I have a Magic Artifact in my hand; you can’t kill me! I’ll even have the police arrest you for breaking and entering! You’re just some small-time streamer. What makes you think you can fight me?"

Shen Zhiyao took a deep breath. "I will make sure you die, even if it costs me dearly!"

With that, she prepared to strike.

Just then, an aged voice rang out. "The Silver White Spirit Stone discerns good from evil. The stone has a spirit; return to your rightful master."

No sooner had the words been spoken than the Silver White Spirit Stone in Chen Xu’s hand flew away, landing in the palm of an old man.

Shen Zhiyao turned and saw Master Chen approaching slowly through the darkness. It was the same old man who had previously helped Li Kerun deal with the Spiritual Child.

Following behind the old man was his young assistant.

As soon as the assistant appeared, Shen Zhiyao’s gaze was involuntarily drawn to him.

He was just as he had been when she first saw him, his true face shrouded in a mist that made it impossible to see clearly.

The moment the Silver White Spirit Stone left his hand, Chen Xu’s expression changed. When he got a clear look at who had arrived, he froze completely.

Master Chen strode forward and rebuked him angrily, "You wretch! How long will you continue to wreak havoc?"

He dropped to his knees and kowtowed repeatedly. "Master! I was wrong, I truly know that I was wrong! I was tempted by the decadent lifestyle of the outside world and couldn’t resist. I made a mistake! I beg you, Master, please be merciful and spare my life!"

’They’re master and disciple!?’

In terms of age, Master Chen was only a few years older than Chen Xu. But in terms of power, Chen Xu was leagues above him.

’Who would have thought that two people with such a massive power gap were actually master and disciple!?’

Master Chen roared, "I severed our master-disciple relationship thirty years ago! You are not fit to call me Master now. I can’t afford that disgrace!"

Shen Zhiyao couldn’t help but laugh. "This isn’t about you being disgraced! The real issue is that Chen Xu has been out in the world for years, and you, his master, never bothered to check on him!"

Master Chen sighed helplessly. "I’m ashamed to admit it. My own aptitude is poor. I’ve cultivated diligently for seventy or eighty years and still haven’t made much progress. But the disciple I took on was exceptionally gifted and quickly surpassed me."

Master Chen continued, "Back then, Chen Xu was secretly practicing the Ghost Control Technique. When I found out, I expelled him from our sect. But before he left, he stole the Silver White Spirit Stone from Wudang Mountain. He used that stone to conceal his presence, which is why I was never able to find him all these years."

Filled with venomous hatred for Chen Xu, Zhao Huan saw that he had lost his protection. With a shriek, she pounced, ready to devour him whole.

Master Chen immediately pulled out a Suppression Talisman, intending to seal Zhao Huan within Chen Family Village.

Shen Zhiyao stepped forward to stop him. "Your disciple did this to her, and now you, his master, are going to annihilate her soul?"

Master Chen hastily tried to explain. "I just don’t want her to harm anyone else; I don’t want to annihilate her soul. As for Chen Xu, I will take him back and deal with him according to the sect’s rules."

Shen Zhiyao sneered. "So much for severing your master-disciple relationship! In the end, you’re still protecting him!"

"How do you want to handle him?" The young assistant’s pleasant voice drifted over from behind her.

Shen Zhiyao glanced at Chen Xu, her gaze icy. "Chen Xu must die."

"Alright. As you wish."

With a wave of his hand, a knife shot out, plunging straight into Chen Xu’s chest.

The pain in his chest made Chen Xu’s entire body shudder. He desperately opened his mouth, trying to suck in oxygen, but could only wait for death’s arrival.

Just before he died, Chen Xu saw the young assistant’s true face. His eyes widened in terror, and he died with them open, unable to rest in peace.

The young assistant retrieved his dagger, took out a pristine, snow-white handkerchief, and wiped it gently. He didn’t forget to ask Shen Zhiyao, "Will that do?"

Shen Zhiyao looked at the man before her with a cryptic smile. "You killed Chen Xu, but Zhao Huan’s resentment hasn’t faded. If her resentment doesn’t dissipate, I can’t help her soul pass on."

The young assistant asked, "Then what do you propose?"

Shen Zhiyao ran over to ask Zhao Huan, "Miss Zhao, what will it take to appease your anger?"

Zhao Huan said through gritted teeth, "I want to tear him to shreds, eat his flesh, drink his blood, and leave not even his bones behind."

Shen Zhiyao turned to the assistant with a bright smile. "Did you hear that?"

Master Chen’s face instantly went pale. "No! He’s already dead! To do that to him now... that’s too cruel!"

Although they had severed their master-disciple relationship, Master Chen had raised the boy. The attachment was still there, and he couldn’t bear to see him suffer such a miserable fate.

Even though he had done wrong, in his heart, Chen Xu was like his own son.

’How could he just stand by and watch Chen Xu be denied even an intact corpse?’

Shen Zhiyao looked at the young assistant, wanting to test his limits.

The young assistant’s true face remained hidden in a watery mist, but Shen Zhiyao could sense not a single ripple in his emotions. He felt no sympathy for the victim, nor did he seem to think Chen Xu’s fate was undeserved.

Master Chen opened his mouth to say something more.

The young assistant said calmly, "Very well." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Master Chen could say nothing more, his thousand unspoken words turning into a single, deep sigh.

Unable to bear watching the cruel scene, Master Chen departed with a flick of his sleeves.

But the young assistant didn’t leave. He stood about two meters from Shen Zhiyao and asked calmly, "Well? Are you satisfied?"

"Satisfied? I’m more than satisfied! Zhao Huan, what are you waiting for?"

With a guttural roar, Zhao Huan threw herself upon the corpse on the ground and began to tear at it madly, venting years of pent-up resentment.

Although Chen Xu was dead, his brain cells hadn’t yet shut down. As Zhao Huan’s blood-filled maw opened wide, he still felt excruciating pain.

The entire scene was a mixture of gore and eeriness.

And yet, amidst this gruesome and bizarre scene, Shen Zhiyao and the young assistant stood quietly, their eyes locked on each other.

For a moment, the scene of Zhao Huan tearing into Chen Xu’s body became a mere backdrop, serving only to highlight the strangely refined and transcendent air of the two onlookers.
