Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Grace Winslow Is Being Kept by an Old Man?

After a few rounds of drinks.

It was already getting dark.

Oscar Osborne checked the time and said softly to Grace, "Grace, you need to head home soon. It’s already dark, and it won’t be safe if you leave any later. I’ll take you back."

"No, don’t worry about it. I’ll have my driver take her home," Ethan Grant said, pulling Oscar Osborne back. "Director Osborne, let’s have a couple more drinks."

Oscar Osborne couldn’t refuse and reluctantly agreed.

Ethan Grant had his driver come over and take Grace home.

When the car pulled up in front of Grace’s apartment building, it drew the attention of all the neighbors, both upstairs and down.

Seeing Grace step out of the sedan, many of the onlookers’ eyes turned red with envy.

"What kind of tricks does that Grace Winslow have up her sleeve? How did she manage to latch onto a rich man so soon after her divorce?"

"That car can’t be cheap. I bet he’s some old man. She’s so shameless."

"Look at the driver! He’s certainly not young—looks even older than Gregory Winslow. If Gregory found out, he’d probably have a fit."

"Tsk tsk. So what if he’s old? The man has a car and is loaded. If Grace marries him, she might even get to be an instant mom."

"HAHAHA..."

Jealousy was a nasty affliction in those days.

If Grace’s life had remained miserable, no one would have thought much of it.

At most, they would have made her the subject of idle gossip, treating her as a joke.

But now, seeing that Grace seemed to be on the verge of a better life, they were all suddenly overcome with resentment.

Irene Lynch was in the kitchen cooking when a busybody personally knocked on her door to give her the news.

"Irene, your daughter Grace is really something else! She’s seduced an old man and even brought him to your doorstep. You’ll probably be accepting a new son-in-law very soon."

"That’s right! The man is ancient, even older than your Gregory. You guys are so fortunate."

"Hurry out and see for yourself! He’s right downstairs."

Irene Lynch was utterly confused. She wiped her hands and hurried out of her apartment.

Looking down, she saw Grace standing downstairs, just as they’d said, next to a car.

Just then, the driver’s side door opened, and a middle-aged man who looked to be in his forties stepped out. He handed Grace a bag.

Grace accepted it with a smile. The man said his goodbyes, got back into the car, and drove off.

Someone next to Irene Lynch jabbed her arm. "See? Doesn’t that man look like he’s almost fifty? Older than your Gregory, isn’t he?"

"What a blessing, Irene. When they get married, I wonder if your new son-in-law will treat you like a sister or call you ’Mom’."

"HAHAHA..." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

The crowd around them erupted in laughter.

Irene Lynch’s face darkened. Wiping her hands, she ran downstairs.

Grace was still injured and moving slowly, so she had only made it a third of the way up the stairs by the time Irene Lynch reached the ground floor.

"Mom? What are you doing down here?" Grace asked, surprised to see Irene Lynch.

Irene Lynch went over to help her. "Who was that who just dropped you off?"

"I had a business meeting at the Bureau of Commerce today, and we grabbed dinner afterward. It got a little late, so Chief Grant had his driver bring me home. Why? What’s wrong?" Grace explained casually.

Irene Lynch helped her walk up the stairs.

"I knew it! Those people just love to wag their tongues. Just you wait, I’ll go and rip their mouths clean off! People with filthy minds see filth in everything!" Irene Lynch cursed bitterly.

As soon as Grace heard that, she understood what had happened.

It was undoubtedly those gossips, wagging their tongues behind her back again.

’They must have been dying of jealousy when they saw me pull up in a car.’
