I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 76: Crisis
"Grace Winslow, your drawing is truly stunning. I’ve never seen colors like these before. Most people just wear such drab, gray clothes nowadays. Unless it’s for a wedding or some other happy occasion, you hardly ever see anyone in such vibrant outfits."
Inside the finance department office.
A few people were gathered around Grace Winslow’s desk, looking at the design sketches she had drawn.
Grace Winslow smiled. "Things are a little different overseas. Maybe they’ll like these bright colors. In any case, it’s hard to say if they’ll be selected. The factory director said we have to take all the design sketches to the commerce department tomorrow so the clients from abroad can choose the styles."
"Grace Winslow, you must be making a killing lately, huh? I heard the factory has sold a ton of clothes, and they were all your designs," a colleague beside her said, her face full of envy.
Grace Winslow simply smiled and didn’t reply.
Gordon Lynch walked to the office doorway, his cold gaze fixed on Grace Winslow inside. His eyes looked as if they were laced with poison.
’Damn that Grace Winslow!’
’She dared to ruin my plans. Today, I’m going to make her pay!’
"It’s no use being envious. We just don’t have her talent. Grace Winslow has been in the office drawing every day for the past few days. She’s not secretive about it and is even willing to teach us. We just don’t have the knack for it, so we can’t learn."
"That’s right. It really does come down to talent. The only thing I can draw is a stick figure. I couldn’t produce a design sketch to save my life."
"Grace Winslow, we’re heading out for the day. Don’t stay too late, and try to go home early."
"Grace, we’re leaving too. Don’t stay in the office too late all by yourself."
As soon as it hit six, everyone rushed home to make dinner.
So, one by one, they all said their goodbyes and left.
In no time, Grace Winslow was the only one left in the office.
Grace Winslow stretched her wrists. Just as she was about to get back to work, she suddenly heard footsteps.
She paused, thinking it was a colleague who hadn’t left yet. Smiling, she looked up. "Still here? Is that..."
But when she looked up, it wasn’t one of her colleagues she saw. It was Gordon Lynch.
The color drained from Grace Winslow’s face. She shot to her feet, putting distance between herself and Gordon Lynch. "Gordon Lynch, what are you doing here? How dare you come to the factory? Aren’t you afraid to die?"
"Grace Winslow," he sneered. "Why wouldn’t I dare to come? You tell me."
"If I get caught now, I’m a dead man either way. So before that happens, I might as well kill you first. You ruined everything for me. If it wasn’t for you, would I be in this mess?"
"Grace Winslow, I just don’t get it. We only met that one time. I’m sure I didn’t give anything away, right? So how were you so certain I was a human trafficker?" Gordon Lynch let out a cold laugh, slowly closing the distance between them.
Grace Winslow kept backing away, but the office was only so big. She had nowhere left to go.
Her back was against a desk, and in front of her stood the menacing Gordon Lynch.
’She couldn’t believe Gordon Lynch was this audacious, daring to come straight to the textile factory to find her.’
’By this time, Oscar Osborne would have already gone home. She was probably the only person left on this entire floor.’
"I don’t know what you’re talking about, Gordon Lynch. If I were you, I’d turn myself in now. You might get a lighter sentence." Grace Winslow feigned ignorance, her mind racing to figure out how to escape his grasp.
’I can’t possibly beat him in a fight.’
’The office is small, but there are plenty of things I can use.’
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm.
Gordon Lynch scoffed. "Still playing dumb with me? Don’t think I don’t know it was you who reported me, Grace Winslow. Don’t even think about resisting. I’ve been staking out your factory for days. I know there’s no one else in this building at this hour. You can’t escape!"
"Come with me quietly and you’ll spare yourself some pain. Don’t make me force you."
