Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Human Trafficker

"Gordon Lynch?" Grace Winslow frowned, looking at the man in front of her.

He wasn’t a stranger. They had been classmates.

However, he’d been expelled back in junior high for harassing female students, and she hadn’t heard anything about him since.

’I can’t believe we’re meeting again.’

Gordon Lynch was tall now, a big change from his junior high days.

Grace Winslow recognized him instantly only because she’d seen him in her previous life; his face was etched into her memory.

The reason was simple: in her previous life, Gordon Lynch had been arrested in ’83 for trafficking women and children and sentenced to death.

"I can’t believe you still remember me. It’s been so many years. I almost didn’t recognize you just now." Gordon Lynch had a simple, honest appearance with a square-shaped face, and he smiled as he spoke.

Grace Winslow’s attitude was cold. "What is it?"

"Oh, nothing much. It’s just been a long time since we’ve seen each other, so I wanted to say hi. I heard you got divorced?" Gordon Lynch maintained his polite, good-natured facade.

"If that’s all you wanted to say, then don’t bother. We’re not that close—certainly not close enough to be prying into each other’s private lives." Grace Winslow coolly refused to answer his question.

’At this point, Gordon Lynch must already be involved in trafficking women and children.’

’In her previous life, she’d seen on the news that he’d started back in ’73.’

’It was difficult just to travel in this era; you needed a letter of introduction to go anywhere. The fact that he had the connections to abduct people and sell them to remote mountain villages meant he was resourceful, to say the least.’

’So why is he suddenly cozying up to me? Don’t tell me he’s targeted me and wants to sell me off, too?’

Grace Winslow was on maximum alert around Gordon Lynch.

Irene Lynch glanced at Gordon Lynch a few times, and her impression of him was actually quite favorable.

Gordon Lynch really was the type of man that mothers would love as a son-in-law.

"I’m sorry, I just overheard some people talking. I didn’t mean any harm. Let me treat you to a meal some other time to make it up to you, okay? Please don’t be mad at me." Gordon Lynch scratched his head, looking embarrassed.

Grace Winslow didn’t answer, simply grabbing Irene Lynch and walking away.

Irene Lynch glanced back over her shoulder and whispered to Grace Winslow, "He seems like a nice young man, and he doesn’t seem to mind that you’re divorced. You can’t stay single forever, Grace. You need to find someone caring. How about I ask around and see if he’s seeing anyone?"

"Mom, I don’t want to think about any of that right now. I rushed into marriage last time, and you saw how that turned out. Just let me have some peace for a while, please." Grace Winslow felt a headache coming on.

Irene Lynch sighed. "Grace, Caleb Forrest was an exception. You can’t write off every man in the world because of him. I just want you to find a good, dependable man so you’ll have someone to rely on for the rest of your life."

Not wanting to argue with Irene Lynch, Grace Winslow gave a few noncommittal replies and pulled her along toward home.

As she thought about Gordon Lynch, the more uneasy she felt.

’He couldn’t still be trafficking women and children around here, could he?’

’She remembered that the total number of women and children Gordon Lynch had trafficked was over two thousand. Many of them had been murdered for resisting him.’

’She had been horrified by that number when she first saw the news report.’

"Mom, I have to step out for a bit. I’ll be back for dinner." The more Grace Winslow thought about it, the more certain she was that something was terribly wrong. She decided to go to the police station and file a report. ’The sooner he’s arrested, the fewer people will suffer.’
