I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 57: Figuring Out a Way to Make Money
"Finally, some peace and quiet." After returning from the police station where she had given a statement, Grace Winslow collapsed onto her bed, feeling as if her whole body was about to fall apart.
She felt a wonderful sense of clarity, both in mind and body.
All the frustration she had bottled up in this life and the last had been released in one fell swoop.
After lying down for a while, she got up to fetch hot water, preparing to take a hot bath.
That was the one downside to the factory’s communal dorms.
The bathrooms were all communal, and there was only one public bathroom per floor, with a few stalls inside. People did their laundry and bathed there, and when it was crowded, you had to wait a long time.
Grace Winslow still had some money. She didn’t plan to stay at the factory forever. After she took the college entrance exam and got into a university, she planned to buy a house.
Her experiences in her past life had left her with a deep sense of insecurity. Money, a house, a stable job, and a steady income were all absolute necessities for her. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
You can only truly rely on yourself.
Grace Winslow took stock of the money she had on hand.
Her current job paid her thirty-eight yuan and fifty fen a month, plus some ration tickets.
Before her marriage, she had saved up over two hundred yuan. Added to that was the sixty-yuan bride price from Caleb Forrest. When she married, her parents, Irene Lynch and Gregory Winslow, had worried she would have many expenses and secretly slipped her another three hundred.
She had spent some of it recently, and now she had exactly five hundred and fifty yuan, plus some spare change.
A house was temporarily out of her reach.
It was already June. The resumption of the college entrance exams was less than half a year away.
’I have to find a way to make some money.’ Grace Winslow’s thoughts turned to the textile factory.
Every year, the factory had some defective fabrics to deal with.
Usually, they were sold to the factory employees at a price lower than the market rate.
Taking some home to make a new set of clothes for the family for the New Year was a pretty good deal.
However, the quantity of defective fabric each year was huge. Some of it was sent to the supply and marketing cooperative to be disposed of, and some was used internally by the factory. But even then, a large portion was still left over.
In her past life, Caleb Forrest had always fretted over this issue. She had even helped him come up with an idea to solve the problem of the accumulating defective fabrics, which saved the factory from losses and even turned a profit.
Unfortunately, in her past life, all the credit was taken by Ivy White. She got a promotion and a raise because of it, while Grace herself got nothing out of it.
Now, Ivy White wouldn’t have the chance to steal her credit.
Grace Winslow took out a pen and paper and spent some time writing and sketching. Looking at the thick stack of drafts, she finally broke into a satisfied smile.
Early the next morning, Grace Winslow took her drafts and went into Oscar Osborne’s office.
"Ah, Grace, what brings you here so early? Is there something I can help you with?" Oscar Osborne asked kindly, a warm smile on his face.
Grace Winslow pulled out a chair and sat down. "Mr. Osborne, I came to discuss something important with you."
"Oh? What is it? Are you unhappy with your work? Is it too tiring? If you’re too tired, the workshop..." Oscar Osborne’s tone was gentle.
Before he could finish, Grace Winslow interrupted him. "Mr. Osborne, no, it’s not that. The work is fine, and everyone is easy to get along with. It’s just... I know the factory has a large quantity of defective fabrics every year. They’re troublesome to deal with, and the volume is huge. I have an idea..."
"Ah, that fabric..." Oscar Osborne sighed. "Many people have tried to find a solution, but the quantity is just too large. We have defects caused by the weather, all sorts of things. Selling it would damage our reputation, but keeping it piled up here... The factory loses a lot of money over this every year."
"Mr. Osborne, why don’t you take a look at this first? If you think it’s feasible, we can talk more." Grace Winslow simply smiled without saying anything more, handing over what she had spent all night preparing.
