I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 20: Here Come the Troublemakers
"That won’t work. Mom and Dad said that your health was already poor, and now you have pneumonia. If you don’t wait until you’re fully recovered to leave, you might end up with some lasting health problems. You can’t be discharged early. If I process your discharge for you, they’ll kill me when I get home."
"People who don’t know any better might think we sisters-in-law are being cruel to you, that we’re unwilling to spend money on your treatment."
Lily Callahan refused outright.
Grace Winslow’s shoulders slumped in disappointment. "Then, Lily, next time you come, could you bring me a few books? I’m so bored just staying in the hospital."
Lily Callahan hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Alright, but you need to focus on resting. Don’t get so caught up in reading that you don’t get enough rest."
"Okay."
’The announcement to reinstate the college entrance exams should come by the end of the year at the latest.’
’Once I divorce Caleb Forrest, I’ll take the college entrance exams.’
’I let Caleb Forrest ruin my life in my past life. I absolutely can’t waste this one.’
The thought of a future where she could be completely free of Caleb Forrest and do whatever she wanted made Grace Winslow’s mood uncontrollably brighten.
Seeing Grace smile so happily, however, made Lily Callahan worried.
’Just what did Caleb Forrest say to Grace when he came here?!’
’The poor girl is so happy. He probably just has to sweet-talk her a little, and she’ll go right back to the Forrest family.’
Lily Callahan looked after Grace Winslow at the hospital for two hours before having to leave for work.
「In Room 707.」
Archer Rhys sat with a ramrod-straight posture. On the bed lay an elderly man.
The old man was muttering, his consciousness already fading.
His adjutant came in from outside, his voice sharp. "Company Commander..."
"Hn," Archer Rhys acknowledged, then stood and walked out with his adjutant.
"The doctor just said that given the old gentleman’s condition—his age, plus his old underlying health issues—it’ll probably just be a few more days." The adjutant’s eyes couldn’t help but redden as he spoke.
Although Archer Rhys had expected it, his expression still flickered slightly upon hearing the news.
But his face was perpetually expressionless, so it was barely noticeable.
He was silent for a long time before turning to go back into the room.
The adjutant sighed.
Archer Rhys sat back down by the hospital bed, staring blankly at the old man.
The old man was unconsciously murmuring something, but the words were completely unintelligible.
The room was filled with only the old man’s unconscious groans, the silence almost eerie.
A noise from the next room finally snapped Archer Rhys back to his senses.
He looked up, his gaze falling on the wall.
That familiar face appeared in his mind once again.
He frowned, his calm composure slightly disturbed.
「In Room 708.」 Grace Winslow’s expression was grim.
Caleb Forrest hadn’t come back, but his unreasonable great-aunt—Mrs. Forrest’s younger sister—had.
And she hadn’t come alone; she’d brought a few people with her.
"The Forrest family spent a fortune to marry you into this family, and you think you can just leave whenever you want? Even if Caleb really cheated and has another woman, shouldn’t you reflect on what you did wrong?"
"A woman needs to be more sensible. When it comes to a man’s little affairs, you should just turn a blind eye."
"If every woman was like you, making a fuss and demanding a divorce just because her husband is involved with another woman, how could anyone live their lives?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"Get yourself home right now! Your mother-in-law is paralyzed in bed waiting for you to take care of her. How can you, her daughter-in-law, have the audacity to enjoy yourself here in the hospital while leaving your mother-in-law to suffer at home?"
"Hurry up and get out of that bed right now."
She didn’t just talk; she got physical.
Grace’s high fever had just broken, and she was still sick. She was no match for them. They dragged her forcefully from the bed, dislodging the IV needle in the back of her hand and causing blood to flow back up the tube.
She winced in pain, her expression hardening.
