Chapter 58: 58:last day.

At the same time in the depths of the market, inside one of the many brothels. Elydrah sat beside two half-dressed women.

He himself was only in his inner trousers as he downed a cup of wine made from exotic fruits that were only available to nobles.

"Aren’t you happy young lord," the woman on his right said," You won’t have to marry the one from the other kingdom?"

Her voice carried the natural seductiveness of a courtesan.

Elydrah chuckled. He took the alcohol that was offered to him and drank it.

"Of course," he said, his eyes narrowing," my father’s wouldn’t let it go, I’m getting punished just because I couldn’t seduce one measly woman."

The woman beside him both rolled their eyes at the same time.

"Thats right young lord."

Elydrah nodded alongside them before patting both of them on their back and gesturing at the door.

"How about you go and bring me more alcohol. We’ll be celebrating all night."

Both girls cheered and stood up to leave. He ran a hand over their body not noticing the scowl on both women’s faces. They both smiled at him and walked out.

The moment they left the drunk look disappeared from his face and he threw the glass he was holding to the wall.

It shattered spilling the drink on the wall.

"You ingrate, just because you’re far better than me, you steal my throne," he mumbled aggressively to himself.

He remembered what his father had told him after the engagement.

"You should prepare yourself, " he started the moment Elydrah entered the office, "you will be wed to the dark elf queen. "

Elydrah nodded and stepped forward closer to his father.

"Is there a reason for this. You instructed me to act spoiled and I did, now this."

"You will be king of the dark elves," his father explained seriously, " we’ll have more power with her support. You just have to impress and grovel until we have full control of the kingdom."

"But..."

"Your older brother will be tasked with seducing the princess she’s easy to seduce. With both sides under us, we’ll be able to get full control of the two kingdoms"

He nodded.

"I just have to marry her right?"

"Yes, I’ll handle everything after your marriage just be obedient and she’ll let her guard down," he nodded and left the office.

At the moment he felt like killing Atheline. His father was blaming him for the plan’s failure saying he hadn’t tried hard enough to seduce.

He himself had never met the elf queen and now he couldn’t even approach her when she stuck by Atheline everywhere.

The door was knocked and the two women he had sent away came back.

He went back to his spoiled brat persona.

The women walked in each carrying a tray of drinks and sat beside him.

"Here, drink this."

The one on the right said urging him to drink the alcohol. Elydrah in accordance with his act took a sip nodding in appreciation.

He didn’t even have time to react further when a sudden dizziness hit him and his life was pulled out of him.

He slumped on the chair, his guards those in secret and in the open were all unconscious.

No one, not even the brothel madam noticed that their number one patron had been killed.

"Hurry up before they notice something is wrong."

The two girls hurriedly cleared everything about themselves and organised the body on the bed before they slinked away into the night.

Atheline walked down the familiar hallway to his fathers study. Beside him was Luther and there were no shadows following him today.

A respite of some sort from her control.

"Did you do it?" He asked quietly breaking the silence between them.

Luther nodded.

"Yes. It should be seen as a natural death."

Atheline nodded.

"What about the Dusk residence, is there any movement from their side?" He carefully asked.

Luther shook his head.

"The lord has not discovered the death of his son."

Atheline looked out at the setting sun.

"Good, make sure to keep it that way until tomorrow," he said coldly, "I do not wish to have my wedding distracted."

Luther observed him for a second before speaking out.

"Shouldn’t you have done it after the wedding my lord?"

Atheline chuckled softly.

"It’s quite obvious lord dusk would find a way to disrupt the wedding. He wasn’t so happy with today’s ritual results. This should keep him busy."

He looked down at the dagger mark on his wrist, a small smile on his lips.

"Keep an eye on his home, I don’t think things are as simple as they seem," he carefully said," there is something more to it than it meets the eye," Atheline said.

Luther nodded. In front of them, his father’s office door came into view. Atheline slowed down to a halt.

"About the other assignment I had given you, how is it going?"

Luther shook his head.

"It’s quite difficult master, but we should be able to infiltrate and start spreading your influence soon."

Atheline nodded thoughtfully.

"What is the timeline to near completion?"

"Six months my lord."

Atheline nodded.

"Fair enough."

Atheline knocked on the door.

It was pulled open at the exact moment. Helther was standing on the opposite side smiling at him.

Atheline rolled his eyes at his brother.

"Look at you, you’ve grown taller in under two weeks?" Helther said and rubbed his hair destroying all his efforts.

"Do not..." Atheline tried to escape but his brother got him in a choke hold and pulled him into the office before the door closed behind them.

"Good evening brother," he said barely calm as he tried to right his clothing," good evening father."

He glanced towards his father who had his back turned to him with his hands clapsed behind his back.

Atheline looked at Helther his brows frowning.

"You’ve lost weight."

Helther chuckled.

"The amount of corruption at the border is getting more and more, some of the soil has been affected and most of the beasts in the area have moved or worse faced the same problem of being corrupted."

Atheline’s eyebrows raised.

"That’s worse than I had expected."

Helther nodded.

"It’s not that overwhelming at the moment. Just annoying how fast it’s spreading."

Atheline was about to continue when his father turned and looked at both of them.

"Do you know why I called you here?" He asked Atheline.

Athrline nodded.

"Yes, father."

His father sighed and took a seat on his chair.

"I apologize for your mother’s behaviour," he started quietly, " she’s too emotional right now and I hope you can forgive her for how she acted." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Atheline smiled.

"It’s okay, Father," he said calmly, " Lily isn’t angry about it since the results that came out satisfied her too."

His father nodded the relief on his face visible.

’He must have been worried’

"Your mother needs time," he said quietly.

"I thought you might also need time," Atheline replied quietly.

His father was quiet for a moment.

"Time," his father repeated, almost to himself, " yes."

Atheline didn’t answer. He glanced at his brother who met his eyes and turned to look at his clearly stressed father.

The upcoming wedding was really putting a strain on everyone around him.
