Chapter 57: 57:Confirmed

The moment his hand touched the root, the lights resisting the shadows coiled in his hand as aether his Aether started to pour into the root.

An unexpected turn of events happened after that.

The light that had been resisting her Aether moved towards Lilith and circled her before it started to sink into the world tree.

The room brightened as her dark Aether was absorbed leaving the unrefined Aether in the air.

Everyone watching was left in shock. They had all concluded that the world tree had rejected the bond but it seems they were wrong.

On the other side, Atheline was experiencing something far more mysterious than he wanted to believe.

The moment his Aether entered the world tree a voice came out of nowhere and directly into his brain.

[Acknowledgement: confirmed]

He glanced at Lily, but she seemed not to be affected. She met his eyes her brows raised as though suspecting something.

Atheline held his breath as a small barely visible screen appeared at the back of his mind.

[Bearer identified: Convergent Aether host]

Atheline still couldn’t place what was happening. It felt so bizarre. He looked at the world tree, it still appeared the same.

He looked at Lily, who was still forcefully feeding her aether to the world tree while shooting glances at him.

[System interface internalised]

Atheline frowned.

’Interface?’

This felt so strange, out of place even. If his knowledge served him right that would only work in something revolving science fiction not the fantasy he was in.

He looked at the green screen, too small for him to even acknowledge it fully and accept this strange thing that had somehow forced itself into his mind.

"Is something wrong?" Lilith asked after noticing his lack of concentration.

Atheline shook his head.

’This feels crazy even to myself’

"It’s nothing, I’m just fascinated by how compatible we are."

She smiled at him and turned to look at the tree.

"Even fate agrees with my choice."

Atheline chuckled but his mind had gone back to this system thing.

’Is this a gift from the world tree?’

There was no one to answer him, not even the system that seemed to just float there.

[Primary function granted: Minor Aether stabilisation.]

He looked at the words in shock.

’Can it grant abilities? This is an ability right?’

He waited to see if it was all real or an illusion he was suffering from again.

Nothing happened.

Then three dots appeared at the bottom of the words and Atheline waited in anticipation.

[Skill tier:Low]

’It really grants skill but low?’

He felt a small trickle barely even there warmth. He would have probably ignored and moved on if he hadn’t been concentrating on it.

’What does it even do?’

[Minor aether stabilisation]

Function.

•Enables the host to stabilise his own mana and those within a one-meter distance from him.

•Maximum number of people: 2.

Atheline smiled. Though the skill was low, it was better than nothing with his broken core which was still a disaster waiting to happen.

’Is there anything else?’

He couldn’t help but be greedy just for a moment, it seems whatever had given him this thing might prove helpful.

[Additional functions: locked]

The interface disappeared from his mind. Atheline was left with a mild disappointment.

Though his core was broken, everyone around him was very good at Aether control, where the new skill was ever going to be used.

’I’ll just practice it when I’m alone. Maybe I can improve it’

Atheline assumed that was the last time he was going to see the system. After all, it had given him a low-tier skill then disappeared before he could even ask questions.

’It’s probably a wedding gift from the world tree.... right?’

Atheline hoped his thoughts were right because he didn’t want to think about another terrifying possibility that might have been imposed on it.

Things never came for free around him and he wasn’t really sure how to judge it.

’Let’s just remain positive, you’re getting married tomorrow’

The light and shadows shot from the tree root and twisted upwards wrapping together in what looked like a spiral.

Solar aether and Lunar aether each from different groups, have come together to create a unique unity.

Atheline smiled. He glanced at Lilith who had a smirk with an ’I knew this would happen face.’

Lilith didn’t look at him, her eyes were fixed on their glowing hands. Light had wrapped around both their hands.

The twisting lights then sank into their hands. The dark violet went to Atheline and formed a small pattern of a dagger at the base of his wrist while the lighter one went to Lilith’s hand and formed a white leaf.

The patterns were faint but looked so real that it felt as though they could pull them from their skin.

This was an undeniable fact. The world tree had accepted their union.

Gasps broke through the silence.

"Accepted.. that’s.."

"...impossible.."

"The tree should have rejected..." his mother whispered.

She stumbled back but his father caught her. The distress was visible in her eyes.

She had proposed this method as a last effort to protect her child but it seems she had pushed him into the deep end.

Lord Helmer looked at the mark on both their hands a small exhale escaping.

’There is no going back’ the thought passed through his mind as he fully accepted reality.’

The mark was a life term mark. Even he and his wife have never done it since the side effects were pretty catastrophic.

He looked at Atheline who didn’t seem fazed by the mark and was whispering something to the dark elven queen. A small barely visible smile escaped him.

He trusted his child.

’Helther is not going to be happy about this’

His first son’s responsibilities had just doubled overnight. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

The moment the two removed their hand from the three and stepped back, the high priest stepped forward.

"The world tree has acknowledged the union."

He bowed before the world tree and all the other priests did the same thing.

"From this moment... it is bound."

Atheline sighed and smiled at Lilth, who barely smiled back.

And just like that, the wheels of fate that had always run in the same direction had encountered a bump in their travels forcing them to choose a different route or try to correct it.
