Chapter 92: Chapter 92 - Koru’s Intervention

Zion had no time to dwell on what exactly his D-rank blade did. All he knew was that it could cut through external armor after a second—and that was enough.

The dust clouds slowly started to settle, forcing Zion to jump deeper into the formation.

"Hana’s dead!" the enemy commander shouted across the battlefield. "Take over the right corner!"

"Tch," Zion let out, pushing his feet off the ground.

He lunged forward, crossing three dozen yards in three seconds.

"There!" someone shouted on his left.

Zion’s instincts screamed at him to dodge. He listened immediately, sliding over the ground as an energy bullet soared over his body.

"Watch out for crossfire, you dumb motherfuckers!" a hoarse male voice shouted from his right.

Zion immediately got back on his feet and continued, heading straight for the commander.

"Cease fire!" the commander shouted, immediately taking control of the situation. "Everyone, take out melee and surround the target!"

At the same time, two large mechanical arms rose above his shoulders, lined with several smaller energy weapon systems.

They lit up in a yellow glow instantly as electricity swirled inside each system.

Zion’s eyes quickly darted to the side, but he found himself getting boxed in by the other C-ranks.

’There’s no other choice then,’ he thought, his eyes narrowing.

Zion stopped in his tracks, his blade retracting back into his arm.

Instead, he opened his hand and held it out in front of him.

The enemy commander immediately noticed the change in his behavior, instantly growing wary.

"Everyone, back away a little!" he shouted.

Nanobot material gathered in Zion’s hand, forming a long golden staff before spherical layers covered it.

At the same time, the energy systems on the commander’s shoulders finished charging.

He flicked his fingers, immediately shooting off dozens of bright yellow rays that seemed to merge together the closer they got to Zion.

’It doesn’t matter,’ Zion thought, swinging the Judgment Lance lightly in front of him.

The energy beam collided with the lance, sending waves of pressure everywhere.

Yet... Zion didn’t feel any of it.

His eyes locked onto the commander, completely devoid of emotion.

Energy poured into the Judgment Lance, lighting it up in a rotating golden glow.

With a light push, Zion dissipated the remaining energy beam, shocking all those around him.

The commander’s eyes widened as his face went pale.

"Everyone! Back away now!" he shouted, waving his arms wildly. "Wilhelm, shield me!"

None of the C-ranks had to be told twice, instantly backing away to a safe distance as their hair stood on end.

Only one muscular man remained near the center, slowly approaching the commander while holding the energy cross shield in front of him.

Zion didn’t care.

He charged forward, holding the lance in front of him with its tip pointed straight at the commander.

A large dark blue energy shield powered up instantly as the muscular man jumped in to block his path.

Zion’s lance collided with the shield head-on, a loud shrill sound echoing across the battlefield.

It only took a second.

Zion’s lance tore the unique weapon into pieces.

It didn’t stop there, continuing straight toward the muscular man.

"Argh!" the man screamed, trying to jump back.

But it was already too late.

His arm was instantly mangled by the spinning forces, pulling him in further before being torn to shreds.

The screams only lasted two seconds as the lance began tearing through his midsection.

Blood and body parts splattered everywhere, raining down on the remaining C-ranks.

"Darling!" an anguished cry came from behind Zion.

Zion, however, only had eyes for his target.

The commander had already dashed back behind the safety of his allies.

"Just keep your distance!" he shouted. "He can’t maintain that weapon forever!"

Zion’s eyes narrowed.

’Good guess,’ he thought. ’But I still have half of my energy left.’

He’d only added the cheapest layer of energy around the lance, allowing him to maintain it for another minute.

Zion locked onto the commander, now standing behind the remaining two shield bearers.

"Switch to low-caliber bullets and fire!" the commander shouted, the unique weapon on his shoulders charging up again. "We just need to buy time!"

Guns lit up all around Zion.

He dashed forward toward the commander, but dozens of energy bullets shot toward him.

’Shit,’ he thought, swinging his lance around himself. ’They don’t care about their teammates at all.’

These bullets didn’t do much damage to external suits, but they were more than enough to pierce flesh.

The bullets kept coming, raining down on Zion mercilessly.

He was completely surrounded. Every attempt to move forward was forced back by gunfire.

’I just need one opening to end that commander,’ he thought, gritting his teeth.

Zion swung his lance desperately, blocking every shot heading his way.

But slowly, the sheer number began to overwhelm him.

One energy bullet barely missed his leg.

Another nearly hit his arm.

Then, the commander’s unique weapon fired a yellow energy beam straight toward him.

"Fuck," Zion muttered, faltering for a moment.

He ignored the smaller bullets and swung his lance toward the beam.

In that instant, a dozen smaller shots connected with his body.

They penetrated deep into his arms and legs, leaving large burnt holes—but the areas covered by scales were fine.

Moreover, the blue cracks beneath the scales lit up each time a shot connected.

Zion didn’t notice.

He grit his teeth as his lance clashed with the energy beam, holding it for two seconds before dissipating it.

[Host, your D-rank black scales have absorbed some energy,] Uriel’s voice suddenly rang out. [You are back at sixty percent energy.]

Before he could respond, a loud roar came from behind, and the ground trembled.

For a moment, everyone stopped shooting and turned around.

There, a nearly thirteen-foot-tall stone giant charged toward them at full speed.

It reached them in an instant, massive hands grabbing two C-ranks.

"Koru?" Zion said, eyes wide.

Before anyone could react, blood sprayed into the air from Koru’s hands.

Zion’s eyes lit up, a grin spreading across his face as he turned back toward the commander.

’Perfect,’ he thought, pouring large amounts of energy into the lance.
