I Married the President-Chapter 19: Close the Door, Release the Dog
Hmph. So he works at Quincy Manor. Does he think that makes him a big deal?
Just for tricking her into marriage and then refusing to grant a divorce, she could defy him for the rest of her life. She’d see just how long he could stand it before finally giving in.
Seeing the girl’s delicate frame and her stubborn pretense of strength, a small flame of irritation flickered to life within Adrian Quincy.
’This foolish woman... Her temper is just like her sister’s. They’re both equally stubborn.’
’I wonder if the trick I first used on her sister will work to tame this one...’
Adrian Quincy turned and called out, "Bring Lightning over."
"Yes, sir!" Aiden Howkins replied crisply, then blew a sharp whistle toward the backyard.
"WOOF! WOOF!"
A formidable police dog came sprinting from the backyard, tail wagging. It moved like a bolt of lightning, incredibly fast.
’Holy crap, that’s a huge dog!’
Large animals were Claire Sinclair’s greatest fear. Terrified, she leaped onto the man, clamped her hands tightly around his head, and scrambled upward for dear life.
"A dog! I’m scared of dogs... It’s coming..." The girl’s face went pale with fright as she babbled incoherently. Meanwhile, the man’s face darkened as she clung to his head.
’Damned woman, what a coward!’
"Get down now!" Adrian Quincy instantly regretted his decision and reached up to pry her hands away.
However, the girl clung to his head like an octopus, a living embodiment of the desperate will to survive.
"I’m not getting down! There’s a dog!"
"Let go!"
"I won’t..."
Watching this dynamic yet ridiculous scene, Aiden Howkins and the other subordinates stood stiffly, trying their hardest to stifle their laughter. Any longer, and they were liable to do themselves an injury from holding it in.
’This was Young Master Quincy reaping what he sowed.’
’Young Master Quincy had used the same dirty trick on Quinn Sinclair before, but she had only scrambled up a tree in fright, not jumped on top of someone.’
’Ahem. Maybe Claire Sinclair only climbed on top of Young Master Quincy because there wasn’t a tree nearby.’
Adrian Quincy was at a loss. He couldn’t very well get rough with a woman, so he turned and yelled, "Get Lightning out of here!"
’Damn it!’
’He’d meant to use Lightning to teach her a lesson, but the plan had backfired spectacularly. This was probably the single worst decision he had ever made in his life.’
Lightning was led away, and the courtyard instantly fell silent.
Claire Sinclair, still shaken, didn’t dare to get down right away. She had to peek around, making absolutely sure the dog was gone before she finally allowed her body to relax. "Phew... I’m saved..."
The very instant she relaxed, the man grabbed her by her slender waist and unceremoniously dumped her on the ground.
Claire Sinclair lost her balance and landed hard on her rear, the pain making her want to curse him out.
’That bastard! Doesn’t he know how to treat a lady?!’
When Adrian Quincy saw her frowning in pain, he was surprised to find he didn’t feel the same indifference he’d felt watching Quinn Sinclair struggle and get hurt during her training. Instead, a strange, unfamiliar emotion stirred within him.
It was compassion.
He’d never felt this way about Quinn Sinclair. And yet, for her...
Claire Sinclair didn’t notice the complex emotions in the man’s eyes. She patted the dust off her rear, scrambled to her feet, and snapped, "Quincy, was that fun for you? Scaring me with a dog? What kind of sick hobby is that? It’s pathetic!"
She stormed toward the exit as she spoke, not even bothering with a goodbye. She just wanted to get out of this awful place as fast as possible.
Adrian Quincy followed her out and quickly caught up to her.
"I’ll take you home."
"I wouldn’t want to trouble such a busy man. I’m perfectly capable of getting back on my own!"
Adrian Quincy said nothing. He simply grabbed her hand, dragged her into his car parked by the road, and then slid in after her.
Aiden Howkins jumped into the driver’s seat as fast as he could, and the car sped away.
Claire Sinclair pressed herself against the car door, trying to put as much distance as possible between herself and Adrian Quincy.
