Chapter 2048: 24.309 Sixth Violet Star - Barrier Destroyed

After the children were sent to the underground path, a hole finally appeared on the barrier around the ancient forest. The humans were so exhilarated that they had broken through the barrier and didn’t notice the changes on the towering wooden walls. The black thorn vines seem to have silently retreated and the height of the walls in their area was intentionally lowered while the other part of the walls had grown twice its original heights. As for the black sword that destroyed the barrier, it had somehow disappeared without anyone from the human side noticing.

They were all busy rejoicing that they didn’t even notice what was happening around them.

"Hahaha~ finally this damn barrier is down!!"

"The flare had been lit. Our reinforcement should be coming soon!"

"The Marshal will be delighted by this mission’s progress."

"By the way, where is the creepy sword?"

"How can you lose it!? That’s the Marshal’s sword! Go fucking find it or our heads will fly!"

By the time they noticed that the sword was missing, they couldn’t find any trace of it at all. The soldiers scattered around the area and found no sword at all. They’ve been looking for it for hours but nothing was found. They were bewildered about how such a sword could suddenly disappear. It’s not as if the sword can walk.

"G-General, there are no traces of sword... O-Or other people. Is it a g-g-ghost?!" A timid soldier asked.

He got smacked from the back of his head by his friend and said, "Nonsense! Do you think a ghost can take away a sword that eats anything!? It would have been eaten by that eerie sword even if there was truly a ghost."

Silence~

Just the fact they had witnessed one of their comrades being eaten by the sword alive and their general telling them that it could eat anything. There is also the fact that it had eaten the barrier to cause it to crack, he started to believe that it was an evil sword capable of eating anything. For it to suddenly disappear like that, means that it either disappeared on its own or it was taken away by something without them noticing anything.

"Lord General, was the sword taken away by something we didn’t even notice?" A soldier asked.

The soldier’s face was painted with terror as he couldn’t find something like that existing by their side. Worse of all, they couldn’t even feel them. The fear of the unknown, this is something all humans are afraid about. Actually, even the general felt something eerie about their current event.

The general said, "Enough! Forget about the sword for now. We needed to scout the forest before the rest of the soldiers arrived. We will now enter the ancient forest. Split into small groups and find where the residents of this place are all living!"

"Yes, Lord General!"

Under the orders of the general, his current troops had split into small groups. There are now at least six groups of three soldiers each. The troops that come with him for the mission are not his full team. They were just a small team just to try the use of the sword. Who would have expected they would succeed in destroying the barrier this time? With their current team all they can do is scouting the terrain.

This is an unexplored land for the human race. After all, except for a few exceptions no other races were allowed to live in the forest like the former elf king. You will need a great connection or at least a proper relation with one of the authorities within the beastmen to be able to stay at the center of the village. Moreover, the ancient forest had changed a lot. It was no longer the same forest where all other races could freely roam around.

The outer region of the ancient forest no longer had been living in it after both the elf and dwarf races had moved closer to the village. However, there are still some traces left behind. Like the small houses where the dwarf race lives before or the treehouses made by the elven race. Most of these houses are now empty. They weren’t demolished as they were used by the hunting team as temporary places to stay when they head to the outer ring of the forest. It was also used as a resting place for the patrol that roamed near the wooden walls.

But after they had witnessed that the barrier was broken. The first thing these patrol guards had done was to clean up their traces and at the same time leave some gifts for the invaders of their land.

A team found the small village and checked on it. Upon seeing that there are now signs of people living in this place, they realized that this area might be used as a resting place of the dwarfs seeing how low the doors and houses are.

"Is this an abandoned area? There are some things left here, upon checking it might be a place where the dwarf’s stayed."

"Didn’t they say that the remnant dwarfs that escaped from the invasion of their kingdom survived?"

"Did they seek protection from the beastmen race?"

As they were talking, another group had arrived and overheard what they were talking about. They’ve also spoken up to join the conversation. Now with two teams, there are six soldiers who had gathered in this area.

"It might not only be the dwarfs, we have also found treehouses. There might be some elves in this damn forest as well."

"Dwarfs, elves and beastmen. Three races born much more powerful than humans. Can we even defeat them?"

"Stupid! Do you think the marshal will be defeated?! He is a monster. A monster!"

"Don’t talk shit behind your superiors. The night had gone too deep tonight."

"It will be harder to see things without light. But with light we will get noticed by our enemies."

"Let’s stay here then. There are already made houses even though they are a bit small."

In the end, the two teams had decided to stay for the night in this location. They didn’t dare to light up anything in case they got found out. They should be thankful for the night goggles that allowed them to see clearly in the dark. The six people spread with half of them resting and the other half guardian.

The three soldiers who were tasked with guarding duties gathered outside the houses.

"I’m so bored~ and it’s so cold. Can’t we make a bonfire or something?"

"Make a bonfire and let it create some smoke which would tell our enemies, we are here?"

"Don’t be stupid. Just shut up, you can shut your eyes as long as you don’t fall asleep."

What they didn’t know was that in the dark forest around the location they were in, a group of elves and feline type beastmen were watching all of their actions while hiding their presence among the trees. After noticing that the situation at the temporary camp calms down, a senior female black panther beastman gestures to the group behind her about her command. These gestures were the ones taught during the training and everyone can understand it even without speaking a word.

After seeing the gestures, the group under her command nodded and spread according to their task. Each one of them were tasked to kill one soldier each or at least work together as a pair to kill them all one at a time. Hiding one presence was also taught to them during their training so it was so easy for them to sneak closer and kill the soldiers one by one without a sound.

Their actions were fast, precise and without any wasteful movement. After the mission was completed, they chose to scout the area for more information. It was decided that the first group to arrive at the walls will be the one to stay to keep the tribe informed about the changes beyond the wooden walls. By the time they reached the walls, most of the scouts from the enemy’s team had been eliminated.

Outside the wall, the human general didn’t scout the area himself. As he knew if there is someone who can speak to the other troop leader it can only be him with equal standing. It seems that the flare from before had been well received by their marshal. Gu Ying had already commanded all other troops to gather outside the broken wooden walls. It was as if he believed that with the sword of gluttony he had temporarily lent to them, the barrier would be cracked by it. Because of this the reinforcement from the military had arrived early at the scene.

The other general leading his group noticed that what was an almost impossible to destroy barrier had truly fallen today.

"General Hu Ying, by the orders of the Lord Marshal, I and my soldiers will now join your group to take down the beings of this ancient forest," the other general said. "You can call me Lei Shen."
